Anyone Seen Dick Cheney?

I'm not sure if hearing these things make me want to laugh or cry. This whole thing is like a crazy movie plot.

To keep on the subject...I can't remember the last time I even caught a glimpse of Cheney...and I watch a LOT of news.

I heard that she was booed once the folks recognized who she was.

As South drowns, Rice soaks in N.Y.

Did New Yorkers chase Condoleezza Rice back to Washington yesterday?

Like President Bush, the Secretary of State has been on vacation during the Hurricane Katrina crisis, with Rice enjoying her downtime in New York Wednesday and yesterday. The cabinet member's responsibilities are usually international, but her timing contributed to the "fiddling while Rome burns" impression given by her boss during the disaster, which may have claimed thousands of lives.

On Wednesday night, Secretary Rice was booed by some audience members at "Spamalot!," the Monty Python musical at the Shubert, when the lights went up after the performance.

Yesterday, Rice went shopping at Ferragamo on Fifth Ave. According to the Web site www.Gawker.com, the 50-year-old bought "several thousand dollars' worth of shoes" at the pricey leather-goods boutique.

A fellow shopper shouted, "How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!" - presumably referring to Louisiana and Mississippi.

The woman expressing her First Amendment rights was promptly removed from the store. A Ferragamo store manager confirmed to us that Rice did shop there yesterday, but refused to answer questions about whether the protester was removed, and whether by his own security or the Secret Service.

At the State Department's daily briefing yesterday morning, before the New York incident, spokesman Sean McCormack responded to a journalist who asked whether Rice was involved with hurricane relief efforts by saying, "She's in contact with the department as appropriate." He made no mention that his boss had any plans to leave New York.

But yesterday afternoon, Rice had done just that. Department spokeswoman Joanne Moore told us: "The secretary is back in Washington, and she is being briefed on the situation." Moore did not know whether Condi had planned a longer stay here.

Signs of things to come.

Oh yeah, and like you would really care what he had to say.

I would care what he had to say.

Maybe he would say something like "the disaster is in it's final throes"

He's the Vice President of the United States and he can't make an effort during this crisis? Fine with me. I'm sure that will resonate quite well with the voters.

Since he won't be running for anything I don't think it will impact votes at all.

That is the first giggle I have had all week. :rotfl:

This administration is an EMBARRASSMENT. And absolute embarrassment.

I think she was referring to how I said we saw him all the time during Clinton's administration.

In other words--we don't see cheney working--b/c he isn't looking for a promotion.

It doesn't seem they are using common sense.

Maybe the administration has become complacent about hurricanes. You know--nothing more than a fancy thunderstorm.

They didn't roll out in droves for any of the last 7. President Bush made visits--but it was his brothers state...and even as a Republican--I can see that it is in our favor that the governor's brother is President.

There was no Cheney and no Rice at any of those aftermaths.....and I think they just don't get it. They are carrying on as they probably did after all the others. It is inexcusable--but I think I get why it is happening.

Bush needs to throw them in a chopper and have them go and serve MREs or water or something....you know--give them a ticket on the clue bus. He's their boss--they have to listen to him.

Mr. Cheney was behind the President at his weekly radio address that was on TV yesterday along with various other Cabinet members.

Hmmmm...Where'd everyone go?

It's pretty easy to make fun of the Vice Presidents whereabouts until someone who actually pays attention to current events shows up to throw a monkey wrench into everything. LOLOL

Cheney postpones visit to Canada
Sunday, September 4, 2005 Updated at 2:04 PM EDT
Associated Press

Toronto — U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has postponed a visit to Canada later this week in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, officials said Sunday.

Cheney had planned to visit Alberta on Thursday and Friday, stopping first in Calgary, then visiting Fort McMurray and touring the massive tar sands projects there.

Marisa Etmanski, spokeswoman for Alberta Premier Ralph Klein, said the White House contacted Mr. Klein's office Friday and the visit was cancelled due to Katrina. No new date was proposed for the visit.

Canada is the largest supplier of crude and refined oil to the United States, having supplied 2.1 million barrels per day in 2004, according to the federal government. Canada provides 17 percent of U.S. oil imports and 10 percent of American oil consumption.

Its remote northwestern territories are ripe with tar sands and oil deposits.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers says on its Web site that tar sands now account for approximately 31 percent of Canada's total oil production. By 2010, they are expected to account for more than 60 percent of the production in western Canada.

Washington is eager to remain a chief market for that oil, particularly as China continues to invest heavily in Canada's energy markets.

He's hiding in a secret location completing the no bid clean-up and rebuild contracts for Halliburton.

Hardly a monkey wrench, I'm just glad to know that he showed up and SAD to know that we had to ASK.

He is like the Wizard of Oz, somewhere making things happen but behind a curtain. I wonder why the PR system keeps him invisible, I wonder why?

I pay attention to stuff--I don't "hear" the radio address in these parts--and I don't get C-span or whatever it is to watch it.

And we were at a birthday party this afternoon.

It is a valid inquiry to know where our leaders are in a time of crisis.

Well gee I guess not. Maybe instead of going back to college at almost 50 I should go back to high school.

My 16 year old sister she thinks its planned. She said his problem is she has no charima and isn't really a "people" person. I have to say, although she's young, she's right. If Bush died, I can't imagine that guy being in charge! He just doesn't come across as the least bit comforting or reassuring.

I find Mr. Cheney to be very calm, comforting, and reassuring. :sunny:
