Anyone see Goblet of Fire yet?

We saw it last night, and though it was pretty well done, there was no way the movie could come close to the book. The acting was much better than in the earlier movies, but Rita Skeeter was poorly cast and a huge distraction in the few scenes she ruined.

I thought Fleur was very cute, Harmionie looked lovely at the ball, and Cedric and Victor were good looking and well-played. Mad-Eye was well-done but not at all what I pictured in my own mind while reading the book.

We took our sons, who are five and eight, and they both liked the movie because they are huge HP fans. I thought the last movie was more intense and the scenes with Voldemort in the Sorcerer's Stone were scarier than anything in this movie. My kids weren't scared at all, and neither was the row of five year olds behind us, the ones who knew all the characters and identified the Riddle house as soon as it appeared on the screen

I give it 3 out of 4 stars.

I thought it was the best movie out of all of them. My mom and FI didn't read the books and they had no problem understanding what went on. I thought it was amazingly done and I would gladly go see it again. :)

We have tickets for tonight's 7:00 show, I bought advance tickets on Tuesday, so I wouldn't have to stand in line tonight. I have to work until 5, then we're grabbing something quick to eat and head for the show. I have to get my "movie popcorn" first.

We saw it last nite. I'm VERY glad that last week on our drive to and from Disney we listened to the book on CD to refresh our memories because otherwise I don't think the movie would have made nearly as much sense. I agree that it is very choppy. I understand that they can't possibly include everything in an 800-page book in a 2 hour movie. The movie is kind of like the Cliff Note's version of the book - just giving little snippets of very involved storylines. Also, in the movie, you lose the whole narrative of the book telling the back story which is important for understanding the characters and their motivations for what they do.

All of that said, I think the movie is excellent and we all enjoyed it a lot. But I would definitely read the book BEFORE seeing the movie.

We went to see it yesterday. Myself, dh, ds 7 and ds 11. The movie was very good but as I have not read the books I was a bit lost. My eldest ds has read the books over and over again and filled me in on a lot of detail that was left out of the movie.....after we left the theater of course LOL!! We promised to take two of eldest ds's friends but couldnt get them together before we went to see it yesterday afternoon....dh up and decided to leave work early, grab the kidlets right after school and go......so we will be taking ds and his friends sometime this week so ds will get to see it again. Both my boys wanted to see it again.

I was also shocked that the movie wasnt as crowded as I thought it would be. I thought we would have problems getting tickets but it wasnt sold out and there was plenty of seating available. I guess we just hit it at an off time because we went right after the kids got out of school.

I have very mixed feelings about the film. The acting was wonderful - great performances from all the young people, and the new characters as well.

But the editing was very choppy - rushing from one scene to the next. It seemed to go by fast - when the 3rd task started, I couldn't believe it was almost over.

I don't know how non-book readers are possibly go understand what is going on, so much has been left out or glossed over.

My DH & I saw the movie last night, and we both agreed. The movie was VERY rushed. I said the exact same thing - If you hadn't read the books, how would you know what is really going on! What makes the book so good is the little details, this story was so big it would be quite impossible to fit into a 2 hour film. There was no character developemt at all. It's like they only shot the importiant plot points, and then moved on. It buged me that they never mentioned Percy, and they never finished the Rita Skitter story. And I thought the overall ending was just blah.

Maybe I am just too loyal too the books, but my DH & I actually left the film feeling disapointed. It was like the "Cliff Notes" version of Harry Potter. It was my least favorite of the 4.

getting back to the movie...can I ask one "vague" question...

they didn't "gloss over" who Mad Eye really was...did they?

that - IMO - might be hard to show on screen...

No, I don't think it was glossed over. Everyone understood in the end what it was about. They did go into detail about Harry in DD's office looking into the Pensive. So they did tellt he backstory too.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Went last night to the 7pm show. Said they were sold out but the theater was not full. I really liked it but also felt it was so rushed (the beginning was like next, next, NEXT.) Editing was pretty bad. The acting was great. I loved Rita S and felt they left a ton of her out. She really meant a lot to the story in the book. It would be like them showing 2 scenes of Umbridge in the next movie. Oh well I guess you can't fit it all. It realy looses all the little important things in the book though. If I had seen that movie when I was 5, I would have had nightmares for weeks. :rotfl:

Saw it at 3:45 as planned. Liked it but didn't "love" it. I agree too much info to try to understand since I haven't read the books yet. I keep putting off reading the books since I am usually very dissapointed in movies after if I've read the book first.
Theatre wasn't crowded, but when I went to the bathroom, and when we left, it appeared that all the later showings were likely sold out.

Man, I loved it! It helps that I've read all the books though! I'm going to see it again today. :teeth:

We saw it last night, and I was a little disappointed. Overall, it was an entertaining movie, and, if I had not read the book, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

Now, a few minor observations. May be spoilers, so skip the rest if you don't want some details.

I missed Winky, and wondered why they didn't sit in the top box at the world cup. Where was Percy? How will they explain Harry's interview in the Quibbler by Rita Skeeter in Order of the Phoenix, when they didn't finish her story in GOF? They totally changed the Barty Crouch story, and it was disappointing. I know they couldn't include everything, but certain changes really made no sense. Would it have added more time to do the Quidditch World cup/death eaters scene correctly? Yes, I agree the first task was far too long, and not true to the book either.

Oh well, I will see it again, and rent the movie. Good entertainment, just don't understand why they deviated from the story so greatly. That's my 2 cents.

I'm going with my friends today to see it!!!!!! One of my friends saw it in IMAX yesterday and is DYING to see it again. She says it's the best movie ever!! I really want to see this!! I have to wait....hmmm...2 hrs till she picks me up! :hourglass :)

I saw it last night.

Spoilers I guess so be warned!

Ok so my question is, did Harry even win the Goblet of Fire?? Did I miss something...where was the award ceremony?? I did go to the bathroom at one point, so maybe that was it. The whole movie is about some tournament and then I don't remember him even being awarded with the Goblet. I know it was enchanted, so why don't they just take the spell off it and give it to him.

Other than that it was an alright movie. A little hard to follow, but alright. Oh yeah did Harry tell anyone that the blonde boys father is one of the dark lords or whatever those creeps were?

I think I'll just have to read the book to really understand what's going on.

Free4Life, you didn't miss anything, Harry is not shown being awarded the cup.

But to clear things up for you, using some details from the book that the movie didn't bother to show!

Harry is the winner of the tournament, but considering the circumstances, they don't have a ceremony. The prize is 1000 galleons (wizard money). Harry wants nothing to do with any of his winnings (can you imagine wanting to keep the cup, after all that happened that night)? and gives the prize money to Ron's brothers (the twins).

Harry does tell everyone that Lucius Malfoy (the blond kid's dad ;) is a Death Eater but....

What the movie leaves out, which is going to cause a huge mess for the next film, is that the Minister of Magic refuses to believe that Voldemort is back. He's in denial, doesn't want the public to think he's lost control of the situation. He has Barty Crouch Jr. (the guy who was impersonating Mad Eye Moody) basically executed without listening to his story. So there's only Harry's word for what happened that night.

That's why it's such a big deal when Dumbledore gives that speech about Voldemort killing Cedric. The students were supposed to gasp and be shocked by that. When book 5 begins, Harry is an outcast, and hardly anyone believes him, the gov't has declared that Cedric was killed in an "accident" and that Harry is possibly deranged.

The 5th book is already really long and full of important stuff, and now they are going to have to fill the viewers in on all this stuff too - it's a huge, glaring error, in my eyes.

i just got back from seeing it & I LOVED IT!!! I think it was the best one so far!

I LOVED it!!! The one thing that really annoyed me was that the beginning was butchered. They left so much of the beginning out. But I do want to see it on IMAX.

My daughter and I saw it on the IMAX yesterday and also in the regular theater at midnight. We're going to see it twice tomorrow again so that will make four times! Needless to say, we LOVE it!
