Anyone remember ‘Mall bangs?’

Can anyone else relate to this late 80s / early 90s hair don't? There were several different names for it in my area: 'mall bangs.' The 'wall o bangs.' 'the Rooster. 'the Claw'. For a while my friends & I were nicknamed 'the poof bang gang' I do know, It was a lot of work! My hair took me an extra 45 minutes getting ready every morning, & a can or two of hairspray every 3-4 days. Once sprayed though, my bangs weren't moving. A hurricane could blow through, & my hairstyle would barely quiver. Aqua Net (in the white can) was no joke! We even used to have unofficial competitions to see who could tease their bangs the highest. It seems so ridiculous now, but at the time, I was truly proud of my personal best: 7.5 inches up.

I remember the bangs very well. Until 1985 I had a set. I would spray mine straight up with the Aqua Net; I think the hole in the ozone is all my fault. After 1985 I had a mullet a la Bono.

Jersey girl here, 1985 high school graduate, my hair was long, tall and wide, loved my “poof.” Miss my aquanet and hair pick comb.

My sister graduated from 6th grade in 1990. My mom did silhouettes for all the kids. She had to make sure to cut extra large pieces of paper to get all those bangs in the drawing.

I was in elementary school during the mall bangs craze. My mom wouldn't let me use the curling iron, so every morning she would help me curl, style and spray my bangs. I never fully appreciated her efforts and can't believe she did it so long given how critical I was.

The record height in my high school was a girl named Alicia and she had teased her bangs up 11"
One of the male science teachers kept the stat book. lol

I had the style, but mine probably maxed out at 4-5"

The original pic reminds me of what we used to call "hair bears." I was never one to put too much effort into my hair due to general cluelessness, so I have no photos of my own. Lots of examples in my old year books, though!

been there and teased them!

I had “the waterfall” look. Bangs that when flat went down to my nose, but I teased and fluffed them so they cascaded down evenly like a waterfall and ended at forehead. (Straight across, not high/low bangs) Had the “waves” on the sides (wings) to match the look!

Oh I miss the 80’s.

And my choice was ALWAYS the PURPLE Aqua Net. Had to be the purple can!!

Never used rave hairspray but I had rave perms.

My hair was never long enough to have that look, but in the 80's I did rock a teased perm and sides slicked back with gel so stiff it was like crazy-glue. Basically this, only chin-length. Good times!
