Anyone read a good book lately?

Sister Chicks on the Loose- Robin Jones Gunn

If you want a 70's book, read "The Eight" by Katherine Neville. It's not all that much of a light read, though.

"Crescent" by Diana Abu-Jaber. It's romantic and beautifully written, the imagery appeals to all your senses. I loved it and I couldn't put it down!

DisneyWar by James Stewart and 1st To Die by James Patterson.

DisneyWar is a longer read, but very interesting. I read 1st To Die in 2 days. It's the first in a series and moves very quickly.

The Kite Runner is absolutely phenomenal. Best book I've read since Memoirs of a Geisha.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a fabulous book. I also like all of Isabel Allende's books--Daughter of Fortune and House of Spirits.

For light summer reads, I would recommend Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood and The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love. The latter is non-fiction but funny. All of David Sedaris' books just crack me up.

happy homeschooler - I had to laugh when I saw Christy on your post!

Every year my book club meets in January to vote on books for the year. Each of us get to propose anything we want, and give a brief description and why we think it would make a good "book club" book. Then we vote and the top ten are it for the year. (January is the business meeting and December is the Christmas party!)

For about six years (I"ve been in this group about 15 or so, and I wasn't an original member) someone would recommend Christy. Each year everyone said, "Oh, yeah, that sounds great!" and each year, it would get voted down. Finally we made a rule that no one could propose Christy and we all vowed to read it on our own. I had read and re-read it so many times as a high schooler that I practically had it memorized. LOVED that book...

OK, I'm heading out to the bookstore now... I'll let you all know what I pick!

Did you know that Rebecca Wells has a new book in the Ya Ya Series coming up? The Ya Yas in Bloom. I think its due to be published in April, I'm really looking forward to reading it.

OK, I ended up getting "My Sisters Keeper". I checked out most of the books recommended (what they had in stock anyways) and this one struck my fancy. Though "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" and "The Time Traveller's Wife" also looked good... next time!

Thanks for all the input, and keep this thread going... it's nice to have all these recommendations and synopsis' in once place.

I just read "The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters".

What a great & easy reading book that was. It's a unique style, which was a nice change.

James Patterson- The Beach House

Great book

Kpgclark mentioned "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. I'm currently reading it. Phenomenal book.

The Narrows by Michael Connelly.

I couldn't put it down. I am going to look for some of his others Harry Bosch books.
