OK..here is a stupid question..has anyone packed beer or wine in their checked luggage? My DH thinks we can pack and check it, but I'm not so sure. I saw mixed reviews online...has anyhone done this?

:rotfl2: Yes!!! I did that many many years ago (1984 to be exact) from Mexico to NY.. and it exploded!!! I was taking home some Corona for my DH before they sold it here in the States.. it exploded all over everything!!!!! I would not recommend doing it... :lmao: I learned my lesson. Needless to say, my DH never got his Corona until it was sold here :rotfl:

OMG! That is so funny and sad at the same time! :rotfl: I knew it! I told DH that could happen, and of course he didn't believe me!

thank you!

If you do decide to pack it, please think of your fellow passengers and at least double ziploc bag it in case it does explode during transit. Upon landing in Orlando, I for one wouldn't be happy to find my suitcase wet and the clothes I packed for the trip smelling of beer. Personally I would just buy it when you arrive - much safer for everyone.

Nothing happened to any other luggage, at least the way my sister and I packed it, it didn't. In fact, it the other luggage we had did not get wet, just the one that had the beer in it. It is the same when you take perfume.. so you need to remember that too ;) When you take any liquid it should be placed into a plastic bag then placed into the luggage (which is what we did). You don't want anything spilling out on your things. Way back then the luggage was different than it is now too, they had hard sided luggage, not something where it would really get wet and all over everyone's luggage.. With today's luggage, I think it possibly could.. ::yes::

You can but as other said it presents a challenge in that it can leak or explode and its heavy! Most airlines have a 40 or 50lb limit on bag weights.

If you want to avoid high prices or want a certain brand and you don't have a rental car condsider a grocery delivery service. We use wegoshop.com and for a reasonable (IMHO) delivery fee they will shop for you and deliver it to your resort. We get water, soda, snacks, breakfast foods, fruit etc and yes beer & wine!! They shop the store that has the brands you request at the best prices.

It actually was funny when we opened up that suitcase. We had no idea it had happened until we opened it up :rotfl2: My sister and I were being nice to my DH (we weren't married yet).
My sister, her friend and I had gone to Club Med Cancun for a week. We went off their property and found a small market and bought the Corona. I had told my then BF that I would get him some if I could. We were thrilled that we were able to find it. So we packed it up good in the suitcase for him. That was all he wanted from there. We told him we had a surprise for him.. the only surprise we had was a suitcase full of clothing that smelled like beer :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: It was actually my sister's friends suitcase too.. she was the one who said to put it in hers since she was taking some back for herself too. She figured put in all in hers in the event something did happen, why have it happen to all of us.. so we did.. :lmao:

We all learned that trip.. never pack beer in checked luggage....:teacher:

True, beer is very heavy.. back when we did it, they did not have a weight limit on your luggage either.. :hippie: back then they didn't charge you extra's and gave you meals too on flights... :goodvibes

They make a thing called the Vini bag to pack a bottle of wine (or something breakable). They sell them at the AAA offices around here

Another poster pointed out the packaging for wine bottles when traveling...but beer cans are a whole different animal.

The aluminum cans are VERY thin, and VERY easily punctured if mishandled. The strength in those cans lies around the very top and bottom.

I have seem my kids have a can of soda puncture and break just from carrying it in their bookbags to school; I can't imagine how it would survive the way luggage handlers toss suitcases around.

sure you can bring beer in checked luggage ... and the baggae handlers will be very happy ~ with the donation ... :rotfl2:

As a courtesy to other fliers and their luggage, you shouldnt. I would expect for the TSA agents checking your luggage to enjoy it for you, too. ;)

Don't do it. You can get beer at the Hess gas station. Just take the DTD bus get off at the second bus stop walk across the street to the Hess station purchase beer then ride the bus back to your resort. We buy our water and pop at the Hess station and it we just take a duffle bag with us to carry it in.

that is a cool looking bottle holder, but I don't think I would chance it. It is ok if you are driving, or on a bus or train. When flying, that is another animal. I really learned my lesson & would never do it again. I don't recommend anyone doing it.. even with this, not flying at least.. beside, beer is different than wine when it comes to exploding I think.

I check beer in my suitcase all the time. I love good craft beer so whenever I go to the West Coast or Alaska I bring back beers that are not sold on the East Coast. I've never had a bottle break. The weight adds up a lot quicker than you would think. I have a 70 pound weight limit as a frequent flyer and I typically come very close to it.

I've had a stash of Belgian chocolate "disappear" from my checked baggage that was checked by the TSA. I can't imagine the beer not disappearing as well. :rotfl:

Not to mention he would have to buy one of these for every one of the beers he wants to bring so he may as well pay the Disney price for his beers! :lmao:

Not a good idea.
My DH decided to take some local beer on a flight to visit a friend. I tried to convince him to at least put the cans in trash bags, but he felt that putting the cans in the middle of his suitcase would be enough protection. Not!
When he got to Houston, the first thing he had to do was wash all of his clothes. He swears that the baggage handlers were to blame. IDK, but I was very glad I was not on that trip. :rotfl:

Thank you all for your quick replies! I am just going to go with getting it delivered to the room. So much easier, and less to worry about. Not to mention, we give enough money to the TSA when we travel, and I'm certainly not going give a donation to the baggage handler's game of peer pong!:drinking1

Thank you all so much for your help! I can always rely on the DIS boards!
