Anyone make their own LANYARD?

My 11DD has started sewing and would like to make her own lanyard.

I looked into it last summer before our trip to WDW, but I had problems finding something to make the lanyards out of (ribbon, etc). I wanted to find something that would be sturdy enough to hold my kids' pins, etc. In the end, I found some inexpensive lanyards at Walmart (not Disney).

I was at Michael's this week, and they had Disney lanyards in the $1 section. I picked up a couple for our next trip!!
