anyone listening?

good grief...she's still rambling?
I have the broadcast going on my computer, but I'm watching my soap too. I just kinda listen in to the other room to see if anything exciting is happening and all I hear is BLAH BLAH BLAH!

What I ABSOLUTELY hated is how she implied the Disney Channel "successfully went through a complete change while rebuilding itself to attract a new audience." What pile of crap.

Eisner opposition vote in low 40 pct range-source
3/3/2004 2:22:15 PM

NEW YORK, March 3 (Reuters) - More than 40 percent of shareholders withheld support for the re-election of Chief Executive Michael Eisner to the board of directors of Walt Disney Co. (DIS) at the annual meeting on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter said based on an early tally of the votes.

Opposition to Eisner has snowballed in recent weeks, with shareholder advisers Institutional Shareholder Services criticizing the Disney chief, and pension funds representing California, New York and other states promising to protest by withholding votes for him.

Lizzie toys at ToysRus and earlier we heard Classic Pooh at Target ........ No wonder "The Disney Stores" do poorly. they can't even get preferred products from their own Company :(

She sounds like a robot......monotone blah, blah, blah, blah......if you can't get excited about what your saying why should anyone else?

Just taking the devil's advocate position here...

While I agree that we can all be disappointed about the fact that things like Vault Disney are gone, don't you think that Disney Channel has been successful in attracting the tween market...let's be honest here, aren't these very important people to be attracting?

RyMickey

I am amazed by the 40%! How can you think of even trying to spin that. He should step down gracefully and the board also.

An interviewee on CNBC said not long ago he was also expecting around 40%. And he even added if Ei$ner did not step down after that then ME's ego was even bigger than he thought.

...aren't these very important people to be attracting?
Are they the only market?

Also, I still haven't heard a reasonable explanation of how showing Even Stevens at 2:00AM on school nights attracts "tweeners".

What beatle's tune were they playing.....oh you say you want a revolution........

I have to admit my 2 tweeners love the Disney channel shows.

>>don't you think that Disney Channel has been successful in attracting the tween market...let's be honest here, aren't these very important people to be attracting?<<

So, I attract tweens with shallow sitcoms. They hang around for them for 3-4 years (until they outgrow them at 14-5 or so). Have I engaged them in the broader realm of the Disney "brand?"

Hardly.

So, I remove not just "vault Disney" but ANY AND ALL programming appealing to adults who were ALREADY engaged with Disney? Does that deepen my relationship and share of wallet with these "full nesters" who make up the CORE market for Disney products and services?

Hardly.

Yes, but the price they paid for the Power Rangers will never pay off. They are much better off creating their own characters in house instead of having to pay big $$ for other people's properties.

I see your point. I have no knowledge of what Disney paid for the Power Rangers so I can't say whether it will pay off for them or not but I do know that the Power Rangers are still a big thing for kids especially since they create new Power Ranger series every year, thus, new toys, shirts, video tapes, etc. I know my DS (7) wants every Power Ranger action figure that comes out with every series so I would think that there are a lot of kids out there collecting Power Rangers so I would think it would be profitable for Disney in the long run. Guess time will tell.

The only complaint I have is that the regular ABC station shows these Power Rangers shows very early in the morning (i.e. 5:00 am central time), and ABC Family shows the reruns the next weekend at later time in the morning. How many kids are up at 5:00 am on a Saturday?

I think the DIS Channel has done a good job of adjusting to attract not just the young children. Even Stevens, Raven, Lizzi Mcguire, etc. are all excellent shows that attract the "tweeners."

I'm happy with the Disney channel but do wish they'd go back to running the "classic" disney shows during the overnights

As a mom I adore playhouse disney. the shows aren't horribly annoying and there are no commercials so I don't have to hear begging for new toys like I do when we watch Blues Clues and Dora.

editied to say not that annoying!

On that CNBC interview when asked for possable Eisner replacements the Fund manager mentioned Katzenberg, Steve Jobs and Brian Roberts. Sounds more like the Eisner firing squad.
