anyone listening?

I went to the shareholder's meeting in Seattle, and they had none of these division presentations, and none of these highlight reels. I'm starting to wonder if they intended to draw the meeting out so that the vote wouldn't be released until after the closing bell.

I think the DIS Channel has done a good job of adjusting to attract not just the young children. Even Stevens, Raven, Lizzi Mcguire, etc. are all excellent shows that attract the "tweeners."

And they have alienated anyone over the age of 14.

And AGAIN, who are the tweeners watching the Disney Channel at 2am on school nights?

What I ABSOLUTELY hated is how she implied the Disney Channel "successfully went through a complete change while rebuilding itself to attract a new audience." What pile of crap.

It's not crap at all. Disney Channel is currently one of the most successful and "Disney" parts of Disney -- even Roy can't find anything bad to say about it. It's gone from a dull mess of a network in the late 80s and 90s that had little more than European cartoons for preschoolers and concerts for aging baby-boomers, to a fresh and vibrant network that introduces Disney to the next generation (and their parents, if they'll actually give it a chance) with intelligent shows and movies that are better than just about anything else on television.

Are they the only market?

Also, I still haven't heard a reasonable explanation of how showing Even Stevens at 2:00AM on school nights attracts "tweeners".

Obviously, they're not the only market...however, this goes back to a subject that I remember reading about as I lurk around these boards - how are the ratings for these "Even Stevens" type shows (which compared to the dreck that is on Nickelodeon, are great) compared with the ratings for Vault Disney? Then again, if the ratings are not better, I would whole-heartedly agree with you (and I typically do, raidermatt) that Vault Disney should be brought back.

Listen, I'm not saying that I love the Disney Channel the way it is now. I could live without the Boy Meets World's, the Sister Sister's, and the Smart Guy's. But, if the ratings are better for these tween shows, why not revel in the success?

I did enjoy being able to watch an old Mickey Mouse Club every now and then, but if it's more successful to air "Even Stevens," why not do it?

Why not a classics channel? I haven't watched more than 5 minutes of DC since Vault disappeared. Would it be too cost ineffective?

The playhouse Disney stuff is great for the mornings.

The teen shows are fine for the late afternoons.

The movies they show vary from pretty good to utter crap.

The late night programming (which is essentially the afternoon programming) is a joke.

So, ok, its not the worst thing they have going on.

I agree. Our family loves the DIS Channel. We watch Even Stevens and That's do Raven regularly and my daughter loves Lizzie Mcguire and several other shows. The original movies are top notch. It is a wonderful family channel.

No, they haven't. Disney Channel is targeted toward kids and FAMILIES. Its series and movies are geared toward kids, but included a strong emphasis on families, and are intelligent enought to appeal to adults. Shows like "Lizzie", "Even Stevens", "Kim Possible" and "Dave the Barbarian" have huge adult viewership levels.

Don't know. But the fact is Disney Channel's overnight ratings increased more than 50% after the removal of Vault Disney.

we watch the Disney channel a LOT!

That is what I was just thinking. Maybe they figured if they droned on long enough everyone would either go home or pass out from boredum and noone would be around for Q&A or to pay attention to the vote results . Not sure what benefit there is to going past the closing bell. Heck, rousting the Big Cheese might actually make the stock go up :teeth:.

Why the heck are they talking about fricken Gatorade?

drag it out while the guys in the back room try to figure out how to spin the anti-Eisner vote

>>And they have alienated anyone over the age of 14.<<

BINGO - but the Eisner apologists keep poo-pooing that, implying the alienated consist of nothing more than people over 50 who are simply buried in archiac nostalgia for Annette and Silly Symphonies.

How dead wrong they are.

You also have to factor in programming costs, and all of this "synergy" they are supposedly creating.

But since we don't know all the facts, I can accept that its possible the tweener shows are the best choice for afternoon and early evening time slots.

But I don't need a Nielson report to tell me tweeners are not staying up to watch those same shows in the middle of the night, on school nights. The fact that they show them at that time anyway tells me its not as simple as looking at ratings.

See, that's the problem. Everyone complains when Disney isn't succeeding, and when they finally acheive a success with increased ratings, grumpiness abounds.

These new shows truly are family friendly...I for one know that sometimes when I come home from work late at night, I'll often turn on Disney Channel and watch "Even Stevens" - this really is a nice, fun show. Classy. Probably better made and written better than, say, "The Monkey's Uncle" or "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" - two staples of the Vault Disney line-up.

That being said, however, I would love to see a Vault Disney channel (a la TV Land), though, to appeal to Disney-philes.

doesn't it sound like people have left?

they were clapping and yelling when Roy and Stan spoke, even Evelyn...

now I think I hear snoring and like 1 person laughing at the "jokes"

I see your point. I have no knowledge of what Disney paid for the Power Rangers so I can't say whether it will pay off for them or not but I do know that the Power Rangers are still a big thing for kids

I believe Disney paid $5.3 BILLION for Fox Family Channel. Haim Saban, creator of Power Rangers, made $1.5 Billion on the deal.

I have yet to see anything on ABC Family that justifies the price that Disney paid for it. They would be much better off if they just converted it to a Vault Disney Channel ala Nick at Nite.
