Anyone know why they cancelled the sword in the stone demo?

I know they used to do a small show a few times a day in front of the carousel. Where Merlin used to get some big burly male volunteers to come try to pull the sword from the stone, then after a few tries they get a little tiny kid to pull it out and declare them king! I haven't seen this in a long time, any idea why it was cancelled?

We saw a little girl do it on Wednesday, the 12th.

I think the PP is asking about the little show they used to do in conjunction with this. I'm not aware that they stopped occasionally letting some unsuspecting young guest actually pull it out, but they did stop the show that they did several times a day. I wish we had gotten to see it.

I saw a little show during MLK weekend but there was no Merlin. Cute show, but they chose a kid who couldn't even reach the sword on the little step stone.

There are two completely different things being discussed here. There used to be a full blown show with Merlin. They stopped doing it around 2008. You can see the Disneyland version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvNaXlwvIcg

Last year the Royal Majesty Makers started doing a similar, but different show to celebrate the re-opening of Fantasyland, which can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1FhvoZp9pw

Thanks for the heads-up! We'll have to try to catch the new show this go-around. I miss Merlin tho :( The Sword in the Stone was my favorite Disney movie when I was a kid.

I have not seen the Merlin show in a long time. I thought they stopped doing it as well.

And, of course, in this day in age, everything is on youtube. :rotfl2:

I heard the Paintbrush on the Pathway and the Sword in the Stone CMs got into a fight, and WDW, sensing they might have a potential bloodbath on their hands, fired both groups...
