Okay, when I first went to Disney World, I was 8. Anyways, I remember this one ride, but have no idea what it's called so I figured I would try and explain it and see if anyone could tell me what it is. lol. So here we go.

I don't remember much, but I remember you sat in something. Then it like lifted up and went up in the air or whatever. There was like a big screen thing that you watched. A little after being lifted up, it told you to chose where you wanted to go or something, so you hit a button that was on the ride to where you wanted to go. Then it took you there and you watched or something. Like it felt like you were there.

I know. That was like the worlds crappiest description ever, but hey. That was 10 years ago. So yeah. Not sure what park that ride is in. It would be either from Universal Studios, Magic Kingdom or Epcot. I didn't go to MGM that year and IOA wasn't around then I don't think. So yeah. Hope someone can tell me. -crosses fingers-

Sounds like Horizons to me, too.
Although I remember it being a forward facing ride, until you got close to the end and your section of the ride turned sideways and the panel in front of you lit up to let you choose the end of the ride. I don't remember much else...

I am very confident you rode "Horizons". I remember the ride fairly vividly. I rode it several times and enjoyed. Unfortunately, Horizons is no longer a ride at EPCOT. I believe, Mission: Space has taken it's location. I am sad to see Horizons leave, but I'm excited for Mission:Space. Me and the DW are going to WDW in August 2006. This is the DW's first trip to WDW, and I am confident she'll be blown away at everything.

It's so funny that so many people rode this when they were young and can never remember the name, myself included. It's one of the few things I remember from my trip back in 1985. Of course I was six, so what should I be remembering. I wish it was still around so I could see if it's as cool as I remember it.

Thanks everyone. Wow. I don't remember a lot of that, but that must be it.

What perdidobay said is more so what I remember.

I'm really sad to hear it's now gone. :( I remember really loving that ride. Too bad I only got to ride it once.

They have revamped it into Soarin
They took the cars and the great big sceen
I havent been on it yet, but I even hear the orange smell is still used
(Horizans used to be one of my favorites)

Thanks java for the link to the website... after reading it I remember some of the ride I had forgotten. I remember the weird machines in the desert harvest scene, along with the citrus smell. I was 27 when we went in 1984 and rode. It was my and Dh's first rip to WDW ( also my oldest DD's first trip). I'll have to show her the website and see if she remembers any of it!

The original Horizons building was completely demolished and replaced with a new building for Mission:SPACE

Soarin' is in a new expansion connected to The Land.

I know they dismantled the building, but the giant screen and the cars are from Horizons
Just like they moved star tours from tomorrowland to MGM

I've ridden Soarin :thumbsup2 and remember Horizons:sad1:, sorry but the cars are nothing alike. Soarin is a whole new mechanial configuration--I'm sure once you ride soarin you will see what we're all saying. :goodvibes I remember seeing one of the Disney specials on imagineering. One of the imagineers used an erector set to build the model for Soarin. It was built specifically for this and for the needs of this ride. :teeth:And it is TOTALLY awesome! :woohoo:

There ARE no "cars" on Soarin'.
The entire ride was built (not conceived, that happened long before it was built) based on a model one of the Imagineers put together one Thanksgiving using his old Erector set - thanks, History Channel!
And really, why would Disney 'recycle' an old movie screen for Soarin' in Florida, when they used a new one for Soarin' Over California and built the Florida attraction exactly like the original?

Star Tours was never in Tomorrowland. It was a totally new ride built for MGM Studio when it opened. You may be thinking of DisneyLAND's Star Tours, which is in Tomorrowland (and is still there).

I don't know about the giant screen from Horizons, but would be very surpirsed if they re-used it, considering the photos I've seen of the dismantaling of Horizons. The cars are not the same. The Horizons cars were 4 passenger pods with molded plastic seats. The Soarin' seats are sort of tall metal benches and are much longer.
According to this website about the history of Horizons , "The ride system and vehicles were sold to a company with the intention of selling them on to another theme park. They are alleged to have been destroyed ".

There is a picture of the Soarin' ride vehicles on this page, toward the middle. And this page has a picture of the plan for the Horizons ride car.

I always find it interesting how people confuse and mingle things they have seen in the past. I also find it interesting that when you correct these thoughts there is much denial involved.

I can remember talking to someone that was so upset that Epcot no longer had that scissor in the sky ride. When I asked for a description he was referring to the Skyride (don't remember the exact name) that is in SeaWorld. When I told him that he was describing a ride in SeaWorld he was even more upset that Epcot would move it there. Go Figure!

:confused3 :rolleyes2

Sounds to me like someone needs to ride Soarin' and find out what it is really like. :)

It was Horizons. It was located where either Test Track or Mission Space is now located. Soarin is located in The Land, and was put where Kitchen Kabaret and later Food Rocks used to be located. They added on a big addtion to that area to accomodate Soarin.
