Anyone just order appetizers as their meal?

We love the apps at Raglin Road with a side of sea salt chips, best meal ever :thumbsup2

My husband and I do this at many places. (I usually end up spending more in apps than what an entree would cost.) It's all about getting what you want to eat.

I've always said, don't be shy about ordering as much or as little as you want of food from any part of a menu at any restaurant!

I've read an opinion from a restaurant critic that it is better to make a meal out of appetizers than simply to order just an entree. He called the latter borderline inappropriate, though I do not subscribe to that belief.

I don't see why they'd have a problem with it; you're still spending money. I say order whatever you want - it's your vacation and you should enjoy it! :)

I've only seen a server refuse to allow a guest to do this once. A woman who was on the DDP wanted to order an appetizer instead of a main course, because she said it was too much food for her. The server refused to allow her to do that, saying the DDP was very specific that you must order a main course, beverage, and dessert, no substitutions. Rather inflexible, I thought.

I don't think it was the server that was inflexible, I think it's the DDP that's inflexible. The restaurants get reimbursed a certain amount of money, I think it's a flat rate no matter what's ordered, and the plan does not allow for the substitution of an appetizer.

If an app was ordered instead of an entree, the restaurant would probably not be reimbursed as it wasn't an entree. My guess is the computer system probably somehow picks up the bev, entree, dessert selections and determines the reimbursement.

Or I could be all washed up! :)

You know I thought about that when I asked the question, that is I was on DDp, I would probably have to order the entree. I am sure twocat is right that the restaurant must have to have each person on the DDP order one of each food item allowed in order to get reimbursed properly.

Thanks again everyone for your replies. DH does not know I made the reservation to Narcoossee yet, as it is to celebrate his 50th birthday.:goodvibes

That's what I meant, but going back and reading my post, I can see how I was really unclear. That's one reason I don't do the DDP anymore-I felt it was too inflexible. I've ordered an appetizer several times, especially when I'm planning on having a big dessert (gotta feed that sweet tooth!).

Chef de France is one that won't allow it. I was on the DxDDP and wanted two appetizers, instead of an appetizer and entree. The waiter was unsure, so went to ask the manager. He came back with the same explanation that the DDP was very specific and in order for them to get reimbursed I had to order exactly as the DDP specified: beverage, appetizer, entree, and dessert. I go to WDW several times a year and have used the DDPs since they were first introduced. For the first time this Sept and then again in Nov/Dec I am going without any DDP. I'm going to use the TIW card so I'll be able to order exactly what I'm in the mood for at each restaurant.
