Anyone in here decorate cakes?

I am trying to come up with something neat to do for the cupcakes but I can't find anything Mickey anywhere. I found a couple cute ideas in a Wilton cupcake magazine. So we shall see. I know that I am itching to bake a cake though!

Not cupcakes, but I am doing these "Mice Creams" for my daughter's Minnie Mouse party. I'm prescooping and refreezing the ice cream and letting the kids do the decorating as an edible craft project.

Here's the cake my sister is going to try to recreate (it even had my daughter's name on it spelled the same way--weird!):

I haven't done much lately, mostly work cakes. Then DDs 7th birthday came along and she wanted Shinx from Pokemon. I'll get the picture loaded soon, but *sigh* it was tough. The family likes the stablized whipped cream icing but I've found that even with a lot of extra sugar and merangue powder it does not decorate well at all. I tried to do an image transfer onto it and the frosting pulled off on the wax paper. Is there a recipe anyone has that is not as sugary as the buttercream, no cream cheese, but decorates well? Or do I just need to use a lot more sugar and powder until it firm up?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a 40th birthday cake. I am having a surprise party for my dh next month and I wanted some ideas. Does anyone have any pics? I found a local lady who makes cake with fondant, etc since none of you live close to me :)

I occasionally flip through these pages to look at the cakes. They're all so creative!

Here is the cake I did last year for DS's 2nd birthday.

i didn't make those but i would have rolled out some black gum paste or fondant cut out some circles then put those in a candy mold i have to get the rounded shape and l let dry, then make the ears and let dry then attach with some black royal icing.

I have been a long time lurker on this topic. All of you are just amazing...I can't begin to decorate. I can bake a great cake though and make my own icing that seems to be well liked.

That iphone is amazing. Really really cute and I'm sure it will thrill him.

Lisa I have said is before and I'm gonna say it again...WOW. Your cakes are so cute. I checked out your Myspace and you have so many more cakes there I haven't seen. I sure wish I lived in CA so I could buy one of your cakes. Keep the pictures coming! :)

I had the idea to give panoramic eggs a try but wanted to do them with sugar cookie instead of sugar. The egg is sugar cookie decorated with royal icing.

I did a tutorial on my blog on how to do them.

They actually are not that time consuming compared to other well decorated royal icing sugar cookies. I never really enjoyed eating the sugar eggs but these are yummy!

Summer... great job!!!

how cool mosmom! i would have never guessed they were sugar cookies. they look just like the sugar ones. i used to love those panoramic eggs as a kid.

Here is my cake for today. This cake is a thorn in my side but it is so popular that I've done quite a few. I know the cake wrecks lady hates baby bum cakes and another one ended up on her site so who knows, maybe this one will too but I thought it turned out cute so she can bite me. :P

I don't decorate but lurk here all the time. I'm looking for unique ideas for a high school graduation cake (for a girl). Any suggestions?

I made this graduation cake last year not very unique but she really liked it. Red and Gold were her school colors.

If i ever get stuck i look around cake central are just do a goggle search for some inspiration.

Those are so cute! My family has made the sugar eggs for years now. I have never seen them done with cookie dough though! I think that is a neat idea. I will have to check your link out to see how you formed it.

We actually have some of our old sugar eggs from ages ago. Its amazing how well the preserve. I will have to get some pics of some of them.

Thanks for the graduation cake picture. It looks really cute and something that a high school grad would like.

I finally tried fondant but it didn´t work out so I went with buttercream frosting instead. Nothing fancy but DD (4 tomorrow) is happy with it. That´s the most important thing :)

Lisa, the butt is RKT but the legs are just fondant. They were tiny since the cake was only a 6".

Freyja, I think that cake is adorable. How could you go wrong with Soccer Dora?
