Anyone in here decorate cakes?

I love  love that elephant! Wonderful job on all the cakes! I think girls at that age love lime green...we are just preparing them for the dis, right??

Haven't posted on this thread in awhile, but I did this one for DH's cousin's Eagle Court of Honor

it looks great, i'm to scared to actually paint on the cake like, that i know i would mess up.
As usual Lisa...GREAT WORK!! :)

And I agree with your Mom...you are too critical of your own work. It all looks fantastic :)
thank you, and i can't help it a bit of a perfectionist

Great Cakes!!!! I haven't posted any in awhile. Here are my three most recent cakes:

My DH's 40th Birthday Cake:

Adams40thBirthdayCakeWeb2.jpg

Everyone got a huge kick out of this one! This was supposed to be "DH's Fantasy Cake"... large screen tv, beer and women draped all over him. LOL.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: What more could an "old guy" ask for?

DD9's Birthday Cake

KelseyCakeWeb.jpg

Kelsey had a sleepover party and this was her choice of a cake. Not my favorite cake ever, but was dictated to me by DD9, who definitely has opinions of her own! :lmao: The cake is covered in white chocolate butter cream (dyed that icky fluorescent green per DD9's orders, er I mean instructions :rotfl: ). I much prefer working with fondant!

Book Fair Safari Cake

I did this cake for our elementary school's annual Scholastic Book Fair Teacher Preview Party. The theme was "Book Fair Safari". The figures are based on the clipart Scholastic was using for the theme.

Mary
i love them all but i think my fav is the book safari, so cute.

I have been searching for this thread for 2 days. I saw it the other night and then couldnt find it.

Awesome cakes. :thumbsup2

I dabble. Nothing as wonderful as yours.:worship:

But I had a question about Marshmallow fondant. How easy is it to work with? I have worked with regular. But I want to try it on DD's cake next week. and are all recipes the same? or is there one that works the best? TIA.:)

i don't think marshmallow fondant is hard to work with, i prefer it. Not onlyis it a lot cheaper it has a better taste.(my nephew loves this stuff)
i use :
one large bag of mini marshmallows
1/4 Crisco
2 1/2 tbsp water
about 2 lbs of powdered sugar

in a large bowl microwave marshmallows, Crisco, and water for 1-2 min or until you stir and all the marshmallows melt. add sugar. i add about 5 cups of the sugar mix then turn out on a board and knead the sugar until its not tacky any more. when i start to use the fondant and it gets hard to work with i put back in the microwave for a few seconds. hope that helps and makes sense. Good Luck, and post pics.

Thanks so much! Its gonna be simple. 2 layers. Supposed to be Abby Cadabby & Elmo but they dont have much out there. So I think she wants 1 pink layer and 1 blue. and I am going to use my diecut machine to make her elmos and abbys to stick on the top and sides. cant beat a couple of skewer decorations. :cool1:

She also picked out some pink wilton sprinkles. i havent used them before so we'll see what happens. I will def. post pics. Have lots to do this week.

I don't put crisco in my MMF...does it make it more pliable?

Ahh I am so glad there is a thread like this on here! I am going to make DS's birthday cake for the second year in a row and just spent almost $50 on a discontinued Mickey Mouse cake pan :headache:

I am going to have to go back through to see everyone's cakes...I haven't attempted fondant yet but I am itching to.

I am so IMPRESSED with all of the cakes here! WOW! Is anyone located in Delaware or southeastern PA? I would LOVE to find a cake artist to do my son's Eagle Scout cake for this summer. :thumbsup2

I have ben reading pages of this an it is so impressive!!!

I Want to take a class but can only find one place at Micheals. (Can't do that day, a least this month's sched.) Any other places to look? I'm in South Central PA if that helps.

i took my wilton classes at joanns and had a great instructor, or if there are any cake supply shops around you sometimes they have classes to.

Try local community colleges too. Some offer cake classes or pastry classes.

I need to get off my butt and post some pictures but holy cow I've been busy. I was fully booked for February and darn near fully booked for March. I have NOTHING except bride meetings in April *whew* unless last minute calls come in.

Here is one that I thought came out really cute. It is a mini belly cake. Only an 8" with a mini ball belly and two cupcakes.

I've also been dabbling in decorated sugar cookies. Messy and a PITA but a lot of fun to learn something new. Here are a few teacher cookies for a student teacher "shower" I did. Anytime to practice something and pass them off so someone else can eat them. :p

Your cakes are always gorgeous MosMom...

I haven't had much time do do cakes, I went back to school to be an esthetician (currently cosmetologist), and I wanted to add more services to my salon, but I've been turning down orders left and right:( I just don't have as much time as I wish I did. I am doing one for this Sunday, not sure what I'm doing yet...

I had to google what an esthetician does. You can tell I don't get to the spa much. :p

I need an esthetician. Too bad you live so far away. I could do cakes for you and you could get rid of my pores the size of the Grand Canyon.

Thanks for the Joann's tip. I never thought of it and I used to work there. (They only had sewing classes way back then.) I will look into it tomm.:goodvibes
