Just finished this one tonight. First time using Satin Ice. I loved it!!!!! Much easier to work with than MMF. This is for my DD11's birthday party tomorrow night. I am having eighteen 10-12 year olds in my living room for a Karaoke Dance Party. Somebody ought to have me committed!!!!
The cake is "M&M Cake" with vanilla buttercream covered in fondant. The disco ball is made from rice krispy treats and then covered with fondant squares hand painted with silver luster dust. (I need an airbrush. SANTA, ARE YOU LISTENING! ) The "Singer" is made from Satin Ice Gum Paste. Did I mention how much I love this stuff? This is my first "human" figure done out of gumpaste (that actually made it to a cake ). The records are fondant/gumpaste mix. Each record has a title of one of DD11's favorite songs. The ones on popsicle sticks were originally on wires, but I didn't have a heavy enough gauge wire and they were flopping over, so I resorted to popsicle sticks.
I'm a cake decorating beginner and need help from the experts. For some reason I can't bake a level cake so I'm going to buy a plain frosted cake from Publix and decorate it at home. I was actually going to have them do the whole cake, but they don't have the design I want. DS wants the Buffalo Sabres logo on his bday cake, but I don't know how to go about transferring the image. There is no way I would be able to do it freehand. Help, please...
You can do a frozen buttercream transfer or a chocolate transfer (I haven't done the chocolate one yet), if you look on cake central there is a tutorial on how to do them in the articles section.
Hey everyone, how is it going? I've stopped doing cakes for awhile since I've gone back to school, but today I'm baking cookies for a cookie exchange I'm hosting tomorrow. I'm making Alton Brown's Chocolate Dipped macaroons from the 12 days of cookies (foodnetwork.com) They are so yummy!!! My daughter is making the Peppermint Chocolate Sandwich cookies from there as well...

you can do a piping gel transfer. thats what i did for the cake below. its pretty easy all you have to do it get the image and reverse it put a piece of parchmant paper over then use some slightly tinted piping gel with a number one or two tip and go over the lines and details then flip on to your cake then use a small paint brush and go oner the lines to make sure they will show on the cake then just fill in with the star tip. i hope that made sense.
(i know the writing is pretty bad, but it was like my second time with it)

The piping gel is clear, right? Do I need to tint it with some color or will I be able to see it on white icing?
Do I need to let the icing on the cake crust before I do the transfer?
Would wax paper work or should I buy parchment?
Sorry for all the questions...
Any tips and hint for doing the transfer would be greatly appreciated.

Basicly you get the image you would like then flip it so its backwards, cover in wax paper then pipe a thin line outlining your image and any small details you would like.( i tint the piping gel a little darker then the actual frosting so i can see it better ) you then place the cake after your icing has formed a crust and i take a small paint brush and very gently go over the outline to be sure the image is good. you then gently pull the wax paper off and you have you image ready to be outlined in icing then filled. hoped that helped
