Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Awesome! We have a gingerbread competition here but you have to assemble on site in 2 hours. You can have a team of 4 people.

I don't have anyone interested in doing it and I couldn't put a winning entry together in 2 hours. Maybe someday I'll find someone to do it with me.

She sure did! They must have turned off the lights in the reception hall. Haha!

The Graveyard and Hitchhiking Ghosts

The bottom tier is done. I'm going to try to get the entire 2nd tier done today. I think the chubby ghost (Phineas) ended up looking a little like Jack Black. Ha!

Wow! All the Halloween cakes are fantastic.

I have a friends birthday coming up November 4th. I'd like to make her a Border Collie 3-D cake. Does anyone have any idea how to go about making that? I will be working with butter cream frosting if that makes any difference.

I was thinking this would probably be the easiest position but I kinda want the ears up because I want replicate the dog in the book she is writing. Any help would be awesome. :)

TIA

I have decided on my design for the gingerbread house competition and my cardboard prototype seems to be holding up well. I have decided to do a replica of the Riverboat in Liberty Square at Walt Disney World. I even plan to include a hidden Mickey somewhere on the boat. I spent last night tinkering with materials to use as supports and decided on candy canes and waffle pretzels among other things. The paddlewheel will be made of waffle cookies with a hole in the center and a candy cane in the middle. The remainder of the paddle pieces will be sticks of gum.

There is a really good picture on Wikipedia that I am using for my inspiration.

What do you all think??

All in Buttercream...I so prefer to work in fondant, its just so much cleaner and neater. I swear when I do a cake with fondant everyone around here is like what is on there????

Ok, I'm a lurker but love this thread...is there any store bought frosting that "crusts"? :duck: I don't know if I should ask that or not... ;)

You can buy Wilton Buttercream Frosting in the 5 lb pail or the more traditional size cannister; it will crust better than pre-made at the grocery store, which is not made for decorating per se.

I guess you could try to add meringue powder to a can of store-bought; I have NO idea what you would end up with, though; I've never done it. I probably wouldn't do that, but if you do try that, let us know if it works!

Honestly, it's so easy to make, I just prefer doing it myself.
:)

Disnut, I like your cake. I also prefer Fondant, but these days running the bakery, I don't have time to even dream cake. :sad2:

Scambone, I love your doggy! My icing is getting better everytime.

I don't have time to make cakes for awhile, I went back to school...

Disnut...very pretty cake! I think the edge on the bottom tier looks really sharp and nice.

Scambone, I love your puppy! He's adorable!

I have the HM cake done. I need to get some good closeups of each section. I've really been suffering through a sinus infection all week and I've just felt miserable and haven't felt like doing much of anything. Yesterday I finally started to feel human again.
