Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Peg...very pretty! Marshmallow fondant is STICKY but worth it. I wish someone would sell it premade.

Star, love em! Very nice roses!

mosmom, did you put enough powdered sugar in your MMF? after making several batches, I've discovered that you really DO have to put in the whole bag of powdered sugar. I made 2 batches the other day, one with the whole bag, and one with maybe 1/4 c. left in the bag. The one with the whole bag was the perfect consistency, not sticky!

Oh, I also wanted to add that the Americolor gel food colors are the absolute BEST! They are not messy, you just squeeze it in...

I use the whole bag. The recipe calls for putting 3/4 in at first and slowly adding the last 1/4 during the kneading process. Did I forget to put that part in?

ETA: No, I put it in there. WHEW, I'm normally dorky like that! LOL

Thanks Mo!
:goodvibes

You girls have given me fondant envy.

hmm, you might need more, then. I just knead in sugar until it's not sticky...usually...unless I'm lazy! LOL! All I know is that my pink MMF turned out really good this time! LOL

ok, had to go back and read some posts...

here's what I do to my mmf...

I grease the bowl (just use PAM spray! LOL), put in the bag of marshmallows and 2T water. Nuke for 60 sec on high, stir well, nuke for another 30 sec, stir. At that point, the marshmallows should be melted. At this point, I add some kind of flavoring (lemon extract or some flavor of Lorann oil) and coloring, if I want. Stir well. Dump half the bag of powdered sugar into the marshmallows. Stir with spoon. Dump half of the rest of the sugar in the bowl and start kneading by hand. It will be very sticky. Keep adding sugar and kneading until not sticky! After you've incorporated about 3/4 of the bag of sugar, you can turn it out onto a greased surface for easier kneading, but I'm lazy and don't want to get another surface dirty so I do it all in the bowl. Once it's the right consistency, I put it in a large ziploc bag and store it on my counter.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I do but I crisco the countertop to knead it. I have no problems with my fondant. It turns out nicely. When I said it is sticky, I meant the kneading process. ;)

ah, gotcha, don't mind me butting into your conversation! LOL ;)

Not butting in at all. I just didn't want you to think I was creating a big sticky mess of a finished fondant.

I do like the idea of stirring the mixture before starting to knead. That cuts down some of the mess.

nah, I just thought that it might have been a little sticky, like some of my fondant is when I get lazy and don't knead in the whole bag of sugar...lol

after watching the last 2 food network cake challenges, I want to work with modeling chocolate! LOL I was just way too impressed with Mike from Mike's Amazing Cakes! Not that I'd be even one iota of the sculptors that he and his assistant are, though... :(

Yeah, I did that fist of rock cake and I should have used modeling chocolate but did fondant instead. It actually turned out better than I thought it would. Once it dried more, it almost looked creepy! :p

btw, I love your siggy pic! lol

OMG, I can't believe I got a tag out of this thread!
:rotfl:

Thanks (I think, lol) :wizard:
