Anyone in here decorate cakes?

Didn't realize that I hadn't posted the Surf Shack yet...

Thanks!!! I am wanting a counter top mixer what do you recommend for that.... I have heard good things about Kitchen Aid but they are awful expensive.

My kitchenaid has been worth EVERY PENNY! It makes frosting in a snap. Especially royal icing. I always had trouble with a hand mixer with that. I just set my kitchen aid with the beater blade and 7-8 min later its done!

Wow, do I have some cakes to do this week.

I volunteered to do some patriotic cakes and cupcakes (enough to feed 150 people). And then I'm going to make a Lightning McQueen & Mater cake for my nephews birthday.

Anyone else got a lot of stuff going on?

Not right now.. but I do have the designs for my entries in to the fair drawn up and waiting to go. I can't wait to see the Mater cake. I have two nephews and one niece birthdays coming up in the next few months and would love to do a Mater cake!! What are your ideas on the Patriotic cakes?

Well, I'm doing a 10" round and putting 6" rounds on top. The bottom will be white fondant with red stripes, the top will be blue fondant with white stars. I then purchased a star topper (stars on wires that looks like fireworks!) that I will put on and also put red, white and blue bows on top:) I plan on doing a rope border around the middle layer of red, white and blue.

I'm just doing a FBCT on mater and lightning mcqueen, working on that today:)

I finally found a disk with a couple more Cakes on it.... The castle cake was my very first cake. It was for my daughter's 1st birhtday.

Loving everyone's cakes! And I need to get that Beater Blade, thanks for the reviews.

Here is a cake I did for my DD's friend. It was my first FBCT. I think it's an easy concept except making it smooth on the back so it doesn't sit 2 feet off the cake! I'll have to work on that.

And here are my youngest DD's birthday cakes from her party on Saturday. I was not happy with the way the big cake turned out. I don't know what I did but the icing behind Pooh but it looks horrible. I think the fact that I did it at 2:30 in the morning had a lot to do with it! Pooh is a FBCT. But it was edible and just for family so it really didn't matter in the end.

And this is the only picture I have of her smash cake.

My classes are all done. I got hired from Wilton and Michael's and will now be teaching the Wilton Method classes. My first class is on July 10th.

I still need to make about 40 cupcakes (in Ice Cream Cones) and a sheet cake with Mater & Lightning McQueen.

You ladies put me to shame! I do cakes and took the classes well not the fondant class, that I sitll plan to take. But I LOVE it! :lovestruc I make cakes for everyone in my family and truly have found what I am good at. But I don't do it for a business per say, I just don't know if it would be good enough:confused: . Now after seeing your work I think I should do more classes, which I am totally cool with:cheer2:

A client wanted a birthday cupcake cake for tomorrow in a 4th of July theme and I wanted to do something different so I split 24 cupcakes into 3 firecrackers of 8 cupcakes. I put red, white, and blue streamer thingies coming out of the top and a candle at the top of each one. I think it turned out really cute.

Congrats MrsKreamer on your job. I've thought about trying to get a job at Hobby Lobby doing Wilton classes.

I really like your 4th cake nut. Very cute. I find the more public orders I get people don't want fondant and it bums me out. I love doing fondant cakes. Buttercream buttercream buttercream.

That's a great idea Mosmom! I know what you mean....they all want buttercream, but this was a donated cake so "I" wanted fondant, lol.

I need HELP. My KitchenAid mixer is broken. Well, not completely broken...the paddle attachment is stuck on the mixer. It still mixes, but this means I can't make bread or whipped cream. Any advice, ideas??? I'm more upset than when my car broke!!!

Oh no! Contact Kitchenaid and maybe they can help.

oh, I know better than to go to that website.....Now, i want a new bigger mixer!

Lower the bowl.
Grab the paddle and lift up and twist slightly to the RIGHT.
The paddle should now come right off.

This is how it normally comes off. Its STUCK. Like its jammed or something. I called Kitchen Aid. They said to soak a towel in HOT water and wrap it for 10 minutes. If it doesn't work after 2x, try mineral oil. If that doesn't work I got the name of an authorized repair shop near my home. Apparently this is something not uncommon.
I love my mixer and will do whatever it takes. But LOL, I do want a Professional with a bigger bowl.....
