Hey all. I have a question for anyone who knows about Florida real estate. My parents are considering retiring to Fla and they are down there now looking at apartments. (I'm trying to convince them to sell there house before they buy, but that's another post).
Anyway, they described some the apts they looked at and the prices. I advised them to get their agent to give them comps that sold in the area.
We relocated last summer and we put in a bid on a house. After some negotiation the sellers wouldn't move but my DH wanted to increase our bid. I asked our agent to send me a report with everything that sold in our town in that price range in the past 2 years. I was able to see that our current offer was top dollar for that house and there were nicer houses that sold for the same amt or maybe a little less.
Anyway, this is my long way of asking, is this something real estate agents in Florida can do easily? Is this a common service to ask of an agent in Florida? I know my Dad thinks he'll get a "deal" b/c the market is weak there, but if he doesn't see what things are really selling for, rather than what the asking price is, I'm concerned he won't be making an educated decision.
He seemed amenable to the idea when I talked to him about it tonight, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't telling him to do something that wasn't done in their local market. (I believe they are looking in the Miami area).
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.
Amy
