Anyone here from Omaha Ne?

I am not from there but my husband was stationed at Offutt AFB (he is Navy, long story) from 2006-2009. We lived in Bellevue in the base housing. What kind of questions do you have? I can try and answer if I know.

You don't say if your questions are Disney planning related so I am going to move this to the Community Board. You will reach a wide range of people there.

Live from Omaha, what's your question?

Thank you guys so much for responding. I am headed to Omaha in March for the college wrestling. It is being held at the Qwest Center. I have a hotel room at the homewood suites on Cuming Street. I am traveling with my dad and he is not wanting to rent a car.

Any idea on the cost of a taxi to this area from teh airport?

Can we walk to the qwest center safely and not oo long of a walk?

What is in old Market place to do/ good eats?

Anything that we must not miss while we are there.

As you can tell I have no idea how Omaha works. We went when it was in St. Louis and they had their metro system so we didn't need a car. Worked out well.

Homewood Suites is directly across the street from the Qwest center, you'll have no problem walking there, lol. You can even walk to the Old Market from the hotel if the weather is nice. Heck, I park in the Old Market and walk to the Qwest when the weather is bad, last time was like 10 degrees. It was cold, but I survived! The Old Market has lots of restaurants and shops, it is a way cool area. There are some parks right there and our new Bob Kerry Bridge (we just call it the BK), it's a walking bridge, very cool, total waste of money though. Not to miss is our zoo. Best zoo in the country, not kidding! We have way more animals at our zoo than any other and our exhibits are outstanding! The Desert Dome is nicknamed Omaha's Epcot, just because it looks like the Epcot ball. Don't eat at the zoo though, the food sucks! LOL! I have no idea how much a taxi ride is, I usually drive! ;)

ETA: I meant the BK bridge was a total waste of money to us taxpayers, it's free to walk on!

this i dont know, its a pretty close distance though, so i cant imagine itd be too awful. ive had good experience with happy cab (402) 333-8294

if you like mexican food, i love trinis. its about 10th and howard, inside this neat passageway. spaghetti works is decent, its in the same area. theres a microbrewery/restaurant called upstream that i like going to. ted and wallys is a cute little ice cream parlor...those are all pretty close together. part of the charm of the old market is just walking, looking in the windows (if its not too cold...brrrr) [/B]

i dont get downtown as often as id like, for either an event or just hanging out downtown. everytime we go down, we hit ted and wallys, eat dinner at trinis, upstream, or spaghetti works, and walk around.

the zoo is the best part of this city!! if you can fit it into your plans, i strongly reccommend!!

oh, the BK bridge! agreed, total waste of taxpayer money, but you can stand half on the nebraska side and half on the iowa side...always a fun picture opportunity!

The Old Market and the Zoo are great places. I'd recommend Boystown but that is nowhere near downtown. There is the Western Heritage Museum which is near the Old Market.

While I have been to the Henry Doorly zoo a few times, the San Diego zoo is better!!!

When was the last time you were at the Omaha Zoo? They've added a ton of new exhibits in the past few years, Desert Dome, Butterfly House, the new gorilla exhibit, that's off the top of my head. And once Rosenblatt is torn down and the zoo gets it's expansion there, no zoo will be able to touch it!

its been a while but the san diego zoo and WAP outshine anything I have ever seen in omaha.

we have had family visit here from there and just the scale alone is more than anything they can put together there.

plus you don't have to worry about the weather!!!
