anyone here do WW without meetings or online?

Welcome Worfiedoodles!!!
I am always impressed by anyone who can do a half marathon (much less a marathon). Good luck!!!

Well...I haven't actually done a half marathon yet. This will be my first. Thanks for the good wishes, I need a ton of positive thinking! I'm sitting here munching baby carrots -- 0 points!:goodvibes

I'm at my highest weight ever, which is pretty depressing since I plan to do the Disney Half Marathon in January.

My downfall is the evenings, and afternoons at work.

Welcome!

Now please, sit down. We need to talk! :goodvibes I have some friendly, "voice of experience" advice that I want to share with you. I am a runner as well. I have done countless 5K, & 10K races, as well as 2 half marathons and a full (yes, of course, it was the DISNEY. ) You need to make certain that you are feeding your body the proper fuel for training. If you happen to lose a few pounds along the way - BONUS! :goodvibes

So what does that mean???? EAT. Eat lots. BUT - lots of the right things!Protein. Lots of protein. Morning, noon, snacks, night....make sure you eat often (5-6 time a day) and make sure you are getting LEAN protein with every meal/snack. Whole grains, fresh fruits & veggies...and plenty of water.

Why eat so often? Because feeding your body a little bit more often will help keep your matabolism revved up. Think of a fire - throwing a few logs on a fire 5 or 6 times a day will give you a steadier burn than if you weigh it down with wood once a day and expect it to be burning 12 hours later. Make sense?
Try to spread your points out evenly - 1/3 for breakfast and a.m. snack, 1/3 for lunch and p.m. snack and 1/3 for dinner and evening snack. And do eat ALL of your points. With all that training, you are burning a lot of calories. I know it may sound crazy, but if you don't eat enough, you won't lose the weight. Honestly. Trust me on this one. Been there, done that.

Why protein? Running, although aerobic in nature, will help you build muscle, primarily in your legs. Your body needs protein to sustain the muscle you are building. My guess is your afternoon fatigue & "lower resistance" is your bodies way of telling you that it needs more fuel earlier in the day. Try to get lean protein in - egg whites, cottage cheese, protein shakes, lean chicken or fish...you know the drill, I'm sure. Fiber and protein.

Ok - I'll stop for now :rolleyes1 Don't want to scare you away on your first day with us! It's the mother in me - I just can't help trying to prevent others from making the same mistakes I've made!

Speaking of mistakes - time for my confessional.

I GAINED 7 POUNDS OF PURE FAT! I had my body composition done at the gym today. My trainer was not happy (do you watch Biggest Loser? Well, she is Jillian!!!!) So. Back on the wagon for me. Time to practice what I preach! :lmao:

Aw AKA sorry about your 7 pounds. I gained two pounds on my weekend getaway- so together we have to regain some ground here. Is your trainer REALLY Jillian or is she like Jillian? Either way- that is too bad for you- she scares the crap out of me.:)

 No, she's not "THE" Jillian - but just like her! Needless to say, I've been much more aware of what I've put in my mouth today! :goodvibes

Nice to enjoy a weekend away isn't it? We all deserve it now and then...but the whole "back to reality" thing leaves something to be desired....:sad2:

Good Morning!

I ate all my points yesterday (how did you know I was skimping?!), and I spent 1.5 hr on the TM during DWTS, going just over 5 miles. Today is off to a good start (well, I thought it was until I read Snow's message!) I had a 2 pt breakfast of a vitamuffin top and WW yogurt. I'll have an apple for a snack later. Actually, I may have more food after reading Snow's post. I only eat what I bring to work with me, so I'm good about not eating junk food during the day.

Snow -- Thank you for all the advice. How do you know me so well? I am sure you are right, the reason I'm so hungry at night is that I eat as little as possible in the morning. And then when I have leftover points at night, I head for the 100 cal snack packs (this is my reward for eating so little all day...yeah, that doesn't make sense, does it?!). I am not a very experienced walk/runner (I've done 1 5K, and I came in last), so any advice is greatly appreciated. Are nuts considered lean protein? I have 100 cal packs of almonds, but I tend to choose those last because I thought they were too high in points. I usually have chicken or fish at lunch and dinner. I will try to get some egg whites in at breakfast. My snacks are usually fruit or veggies. I'm trying to workout at least an hour each day -- this usually means walking, but sometimes the stationary bike. I commiserate on your weight gain. I know you are totally focused now!:goodvibes

Volts -- It sounds like you had a fabulous trip. What a wonderful getaway. I'm sure the 2 lbs will melt right off. :)

Thanks for welcoming me, I am eager to learn and lose with you!

Wow Worfie- sounds like you are doing great!

I am a runner as well. I have done countless 5K, & 10K races, as well as 2 half marathons and a full (yes, of course, it was the DISNEY. )
I didn't know that about you AKAsnowWhite! I am totally impressed.

I am having a good day- I have gotten back to walking- I have been doing 2-3 miles today and yesterday. DH and I did some some really challenging hikes on our trip - and it felt so good- so I am glad to getting back to my walks. Have a good night everyone!

Ah, well, as I said before - the voice of experience! ;) Nuts are not considered a lean protein, in fact they are a fat. A GOOD fat though - especially whole almonds! Take a look at the fat-to-protein ratio. It would take an awful lot of nuts to get a decent amount of protein out of them! I find that 8 whole almonds (yes, I count them out....) is a great way to get some *crunch* and they really do help satisfy. Definitely worth the points for me.

I also have a great recipe for a home-made granola that I love  I need to make me some of that :goodvibes It's crunchy and because it's mostly oats, it's high in fiber, low in fat and takes a l-o-n-g time to digest :thumbsup2

I just wrote my food in my journal (started again yesterday...can't imagine why....:rolleyes1 ) and I feel like I'm in much more control than I have been in the past few weeks. I have an open bottle of wine, and would love to have a nice glass while I catch up on paperwork tonight, but alas, I'm going to make myself a cup of green tea instead. :coffee:

Almost time for Biggest Loser....gotta get my tea and "dibs" the remote! :happytv:

I didn't know that about you AKAsnowWhite! I am totally impressed.

I'm a bit of a workout *freak*.:yay: My biggest issue is eating too much food - not all junk, but too much of the "good stuff". I just love food, and everything about it! Well, almost everything - I could do without the expanding waist-line that comes with it! :scared:

Hi All!
Just dropping in - weighed myself and .... I'm down by 3!
Not particularly thrilled with that but it is a loss.

I need to start exercising more - I'm netflixing some "walk off the pounds" to get me going. I have some knee and back issues so I need to be careful.

Food hasn't been too much of an issue. I get really really rigid with the food and end up with 1.5 points at the end of the day and a few times last week I did not eat my minimum points (maybe that was another reason for the little loss).

Looking forward to a better week!

Hey- 3 pounds is not bad at all. I have been losing really slowly and steadily and just have to remember it adds up. Just think- a few more weeks like that and you will drop a dress size! I am at the point where a 1 pound loss in a week makes me jump for joy so don't be discouraged.

I have been losing VERY slowly- you see my ticker- I am almost 20 lbs down and that has taken over 9 months. Nobody notices that I have lost weight because it is so slow. Well, finally yesterday I saw someone I haven't seen since last year and she noticed. It felt so good to know that someone can see the difference.

Did you watch the Biggest Loser? I only saw a little bit of the show (where they were racing kids) and then the weigh-in. Why were their losses so low last night? I saw a bunch of 2 and 3 pound losses.

Good Afternoon!

I had another good day yesterday (only over by 2pts, and I had 6 activity points, so I think it was ok). This morning I had egg whites for breakfast. I don't really like eggs all that much, so I need some other ideas for lean protein at breakfast...

We had a little shakeup at work (my boss just announced she hired someone from another department whom we strongly dislike), and I ended up skipping my morning snack.

I'm taking today off the TM. I've worked out seven days in a row, so I think I've earned a rest day. Actually, I think I'd better take one or I'll burn out.

Volts -- even if you are losing slowly, you are improving your health tremendously. You are doing a good job. Losing super fast just results in gaining it back. You should be proud of your perseverence!:goodvibes

carrieb--3 lbs sounds awesome to me! I love netflix, it has really expanded what I watch. I used to popcorn:: , but now I'm on the TM :cool1:

Snow -- I love the Biggest Loser! I had to tape last night, so I'll be watching when I get home. I find it to be so motivating. If they're working out 4 hours a day and losing 2 lbs, we're not doing bad!

I'm two days from my weigh in. Still hoping for that 1/2 lb., just so I can feel like I'm on my way:thumbsup2

I am doing well- I am so glad we have more activity on this thread lately- somehow it really helps me stay on track.

I am going to get my walk in early today because I usually walk at 12noon but today at 12noon on Travel Channel, Great Hotels is showcasing the Homestead Resort, where I spent last weekend. I love that show.

Weigh-in is tomorrow so I am going to be super dooper OP today. I could really use an emotional boost so I am praying for a loss.

Good day to everyone!:)

Hey there,

I need to shake up my eating plan and I am thinking about going back to points. I don't want to do the online or meetings at this time. I figure we can get the same support here.
I recently cleaned out my closet and tossed all my WW stuff:sad2: I do still have my points calculator and I know there are websites that I can get alot of the eating out points. Mostly what I need to know is how many points I should be using up per day. I weigh 197, if anyone can let me know I would appreciate it.

Thanks!!!

I hope this info isn't too outdated!
I don't really understand how to calculate activity points but I basically allow myself 2 extra pts per day when I do my excersise (2.5-3mile brisk walk)

Good Afternoon!

I resisted the temptation to work out yesterday, and had a real rest day. I'm hoping to see a little drop on the scale tomorrow. I can't believe how nervous I'm getting about something that just...is. I can't change what it says, I can only do the right things and see what happens. On the bright side, this is the first time I've counted points in a few years. It can only go down after week 1, right?!;)

AuntieM -- I don't know if there is more of a formula, but I think what Volts gave you is correct. Someone else may know better than I!

Volts-- We have the same weigh in day! I promise to post tomorrow so we can celebrate!

Snow-- Ok, I watched my Biggest Loser tape last night. What an inspiration Jerry is! I just need to develop other activities for those dangerous eating times. I can't eat while I'm typing, thank goodness for the Internet!:surfweb:

Let's Eat Well Tonight!

Hoorah I am down 1 lb!
I am pleased. Good luck at weigh-in today, Worfiedoodles. I know it will be good.:thumbsup2
Everyone eat well and take care of yourselves today.

The results are in.....I lost THREE pounds! Can you tell I'm a little excited?! I will not be expecting that in the future, but I'm really happy for week one. I know 1-2 is much more likely, but I'm taking the 3 for this week!

Volts -- Congratulations! I know you are so glad to have that boost to take off for next week!:cheer2:

Ok, now I just have to hold it together for the weekend. I am determined to do this. If I can get through Monday without overeating and keep up my workouts, the week will be ok.

Everyone have a great, healthy day!
Maria

<phew> What a crazy weekend I had! But....despite all the chaos, I too have seen the scale drop! Down 1.5 pounds :goodvibes

Congrats to all the "LOSERS" out there :rotfl:
