It seems the older I get the worse my motion sickness is. I have taken dramimine before and it helps but I feel drugged all day. The wrist bands don't work for me either. I have heard if you take ginger tablets this will help. Has anyone heard this?? I love to ride all the rides, especially the kiddy rides but I can't handle the ones that spin alot.

Thanks

Ginger is good for all types of nausea, from morning sickness during pregnancy to the heaves ya get when you're sick. :crazy2: I wouldn't be at all surprised if ginger helped on the rides. You can get something called Ginger Chews at health food stores...they are extremely strong ginger candies and work great! :wizard:

Is this something like a vitamin that you take or chew everyday or just when you think you may get motion sickness?

Thanks

The other over the counter motion sickness drug you can get is called Bonine, I think. Supposedly, it does not make you as sleepy as Dramamine.

It is very, VERY, common to have less tolerance to these things as we get older, and I'm really sorry to say that. I have no fear at all of wild rides, but know I would be sick if I did them.

I have heard of that, though I've never tried it. I have motion sickness bands for rides that make me queasy. I wear them around my wrists and it really staves off the nausea. I got them at a local bookstore that carries travel merchandise. Mine are made by a company called Austin House.

About the ginger....a lady I've known for a while, gives her kids gingersnaps and takes ginger capsules or adds it too food during times when she/they may experience motion sickness. I subscribe to the DisneyCruise forums and it is all over the boards for use in preventing motion sickness. I figure if u like ginger (i do) take some. I brought the cookies and candies along on our cruise and my DD who gets car sick...was FINE. Was it the ginger? Who knows but it's a snack to...so I kill two birds w/ one stone. I have taken the Bonine...it didn't cause any drowsiness...but I did feel like I had 'low energy' for lack of a better way to describe it. However, it worked great too. Hope this helped.

Bonine (or any meclizine product) makes me just as drowsy as Dramamine (dimenhydrinate), so beware...try at home first to test the effect. It works great for some people.

My favorite way to take ginger is in candied form...I pick it up in the Asian food section of my grocery store. Others like the ginger snaps, or even ginger ale or ginger beer! I've never tried the pills. A combination of SeaBands and some form of ginger works well for my DS15 and me.

Hi again,
It's something you take as needed. It won't hurt you to take it everyday if you just like the candies or need a little digestive help, but you don't have to take it until you need it. Another tip for at home (might be too cumbersome to do while traveling): my dh also grinds fresh ginger or uses the ready-made powder in the spice aisle and adds it to plain seltzer water. He essentially makes his own ginger ale, since lots of ginger ales these days are too weak to help out and also contain sugar (we don't do soda so this is wayyyyy too sweet for us). He says it works better than Pepto when he has an upset stomach! Hope this helps! :wizard:

My DD was getting seasick on a whale watch cruise one time. (The day before she had been carsick, and continued feeling ill for hours.) The boat crew gave her some dried ginger root, told her to chew on it, then spit it out. She did, and felt better within 5 or 10 minutes, and stayed that way the rest of the boat ride!
My DM told me her friend used to give her kids gingersnaps on long car trips for motion sickness.

Ok so I'm revealing what a geek I am, but have you ever watched Mythbusters on the discovery channel? They did home remedies for motion sickness and ginger was one of the ones that worked.

I have taken ginger in capsule form (got it at a health food store). This was for motion sickness on a ship and then again on a boat so I don't know if it will work for rides. My daughter uses the wristbands. They have to be placed very specifically on the wrist to work. Maybe that is why they didn't work for you?? :confused3
We have also used gingersnaps in the car for motion sickness and they too worked great.

Good Luck, hope you find something that works. :wizard:

Have you ever watched Myth Busters, well they did a test to see if the ginger thing worked. They tested on two people that got motion sick like on rides that go around. They took Dramamine, that made them very sleepy and didn't really help that much  . Then they did the sea sick patch and that didn't help  . I don't know if they took Bonine or not. They did take two Ginger pills and that did help, the two guys that took them felt fine. :thumbsup2

My next trip to WDW I will be takening the ginger pills too.

My experience has been that ginger works well for nausea. My future SIL introduced the ginger chewable tablets to me when I was in the first trimester of my pregnancy. I like the taste of ginger, so I didn't mind them, but if you don't like the taste of ginger you won't want to be chewing on them. They carry the tablets in one of my local grocery stores. You can take the tablets as you need them.

Ginger is about as good as it gets for motion sickness. I get the capsules at our local whole foods market, their brand. I have been taking it for years.

Now..make sure and start taking it before you leave.

Cystalized Ginger works incredibly well for motion sickness! We use it when flying and also on our last cruise. And beleive you me, the waves and lists one day on that cruise were incredible-and the crystalized ginger came through with flying colors! It can be purchased at any good candy shop. Just pop a piece in your mouth and slowly suck on it. And there are NO effects or after effects like with medication sold for motion sickness> Good Luck!

We take ginger before going on a cruise. We get the capsules at GNC.

:thumbsup2 Thumbs up for ginger. I used it during pregnancy. Until this thread I had forgotten about it. Do you suppose now I have to ride the tea cups? :confused3 :lmao: Maybe we'll just keep it my secret and I'll use it in the car because the older I get, the less I can read in the car and that is frustrating for me.

I'm not too crazy about the taste of ginger, so the idea of capsules appeal to me. How often do you take the capsules? If I take one (or two) in the morning will it last all day?

It works! I get motion sickness so I looked into this, and the concensus is it does the job! There was even a MythBusters on Discovery Channel about it, and it was proved that the myth isn't a myth at all...it has been validated.
