Anyone heard of taking Ginger tablets for motion sickness?

DH gets motion sickness very easily. I like the wild rides but I do get seasick. I learned about ginger before we went on one our cruises. I took two capsules in the AM and 2 at dinner everyday and felt great. DH did great as well. Before that, we took Bonine but it did make us a bit drowsy and we still felt a bit ill. This was even on relatively calm seas! I tried the ginger candy and did not like the taste at all! :crazy2:
DH can even do some of the wilder rides in the parks with the ginger. Ginger is one of the best tips I received from message boards. (OK - I have received lots of great tips and ginger is up there in the 50 best!)

Wow. I just never know what new thing I'm going to find out about here. I had never heard of the ginger "treatment"!! My daughter has trouble if driving more than about two hours. And really, eating some ginger snaps you think would work?

Guess I'll be bringing a ginger variety on the trip. She's never been on too many rides before so I wasn't sure how she would do with rides. I'll give her ginger in some form as a preventative measure. Thanks so much everyone!

I took ginger last year and didn't get sick at all. I realized I was old the day I had to ask the carnie to stop the ride at our local carnival. Sheesh! How horrid for my DS! Little old mama crawled off the ride (yes- really crawled) and swore I was done with spinny rides for good. Anywho... suddenly we're at WDW and I knew I couldn't resist. I went on lots of crazy rides and didn't get sick. Was it the ginger pills? (One in the AM and one at lunch) or Disney magic? Who knows, but I'm packing them again!

Cystalized Ginger works incredibly well for motion sickness! We use it when flying and also on our last cruise. And beleive you me, the waves and lists one day on that cruise were incredible-and the crystalized ginger came through with flying colors! It can be purchased at any good candy shop. Just pop a piece in your mouth and slowly suck on it. And there are NO effects or after effects like with medication sold for motion sickness> Good Luck!

Yes - I used the crystalized Ginger when I was going thru chemo! It did help with the queasies!

I used the crystalized ginger when I was pregnant with my twins and had all day morning sickness for eight months - worked WONDERFULLY! Another thing that I really liked were lollypops called "Preggie Pops", they were recommended to me by a girlfriend that was going through chemo. They are made with all natural ingredients and are designed to help with nausea. I purchased them at both a maternity store and at a natural foods store.

Good luck and have a great trip!

My mom swears by it she gets motion sickness and uses these constantly. She goes to a local herbal shop buys the ginger and capsules and makes them herself she makes about 20 or 30 at a time sticks them in a little ziplock baggie and puts them in her purse and takes them when needed.

When I was a kid, my father made us take ginger and hot water if we were nauseous. It would either settle your stomach or ... well you know what!!

It works, though it took me years before I could stand the smell of ginger...

I can't stand the taste of ginger :crazy2: , so I bought the ginger capsules that you just swallow. They worked wonderful! I tend to get really carsick if I'm not staring at the road the whole time, and ginger helps to counteract that.

My boss told me about it before our last trip to the World. She suggested (with the pills) to start taking them a couple of times a day about a week before we left, so that our bodies could get a good level built up. Then, we took them in the morning and at night while we were there. It worked great! :woohoo:

Another thing that works wonders when you're already nauseous :crazy2: is Papaya Root Extract. It tastes REALLY good and helps soothe your stomach. :thumbsup2 A friend of my parents took it when he was going through chemo and it really calmed his stomach down. I took it on our honeymoon b/c I was afraid all the nerves and stress from the wedding would make me sick- the papaya made me feel better really quick.

Hope this helps!

I get motion sickness so severely that even reading this thread is making me queasy! (I'm serious. Really.) :crazy2:

I'll definitely have to try those ginger capsules!

It works for most people but not for me. I'm very allergic to ginger and it makes me incredibly nauseous. I can't stop throwing up if I have ginger.

Props again to Jamie and Adam of Mythbusters (especially poor Adam for the motion sickness episode :lmao: ) I'll be taking ginger most definitely this trip because my daughter wants to ride the teacups and Dumbo with me, two things I could never, never do before.
