I have seen __A_ mouse in my garage and seen his little poopies everywhere. So I work retail and just got home tonight and was pulling into the garage vvvvvvvveeeeeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyy slowly just watching.........I couldn't believe it, I SWEAR this mouse went flying by he jumped off of something and landed who knows where..........I am afraid to go in my own garage...any advice???
maybe I'll move...............

I thought about moving when we were invaded by mice last year, but who would want my mouse house? We caught 10 and continued to see "evidence" that there were more mice friends lurking about. At that point, we broke down and called an exterminator. Haven't seen one since. Good luck.

:flower: Well - you "could" try to handle this yourself, but remember, they breed VERY quickly and you could be overrun in no time flat.. With winter coming, they're trying to get in out of the cold.. If you don't want to mess with this, I'd call an exterminator..

Hope you get them all!

Rodents do NOT like Peppermint. Get some Peppermint oil, they will stay away! :teeth:

Sticky traps work well too. Make sure all your food sources are stored in containers and if you have pet food out - they like that too. We had a bizarre situation in our old house were the mice made a nest in our the air ducting in our car and stored cat food in there like nuts. The mechanic found it when he was servicing our car. :earseek:

Those sticky traps are gross though, because they actually chew off their arms and legs to get out of them, and then die of blood loss. My parents deal with little tiny field mice about every 5 years in their house in the autumn...

YucK! I always made DH deal with the "catch and release". I wonder what he was doing with them after he found them in the sticky trap :earseek:

The problem is where I live now, there is a very serious case of - I believe it's a typhoid type illness- that is associated with the fleas of rats and mice. They actually published a bulletin in the local paper urging people take precautionary measures around their homes and property to keep the rodents at bay. Also, to avoid going to the beach at night when the rodents tend to come out and hang around the beach. I actually knew a guy who contracted this illness. He was very, very sick from it, but fortunately, our local medical professionals were up on, and recognized the symptoms of the illness and he was tested early on for it and treated accordingly.

Sticky traps only work for so long before the mice learned to avoid them. Our landlord stopped by the exterminator's and got us packets that the mice feed on. The bait is carried with them back to their nests and somwhow infects the lot of them. We put 4 of them about the house two-three weeks ago and after about a week the activity seemed to cease. I haven't seen any new evidence. Whatever is in the packets causes the mice to die and there's no worry of odor.

Do you store your trash in your garage, my neighbor does and he gets mice every year. I suggested that he get one of those rubbermaid bins outside just to get them out of his house, but he hasn't. He only goes to the dump once a week, so I'm sure they are feeding off his leftovers all week! YUCKY, I would be afraid to get out of my car too.

I dont' have a problem with mice--I have a problem with cats! As in, we have three, could they get off their lazy butts and actaully catch something?!?

We have a 200yo house, so it's nice, but not as 'airtight" as some newer ones. There's a place under my dishwasher that I know darn well something is camping out in there--the cats watch the spot constantly, but of course, do they catch anything? NO, that would involve work! It might actually be a chipmunk--been known to happen in our house. But, what can you do? It's an old country farm house. Since I have young kids, we can't use poison--we do the sticky traps. Sorry, can't lose sleep about the little buggers chewing themselves.

We found mice NESTS in my dresser at my dad's house about a year ago :crazy2: They had chewed up Beanie Babies and little shreds of carpet and carpet padding (the house was and still is under renovations, so the carpet was partially torn up) to make the nest, and we found it, the mother was hanging out in one drawer, and her babies were in the drawer above, probably not more than two days old. It took a million of those peanut butter catch and release traps and (dare I say it here?) some poison, to get rid of the problem. It was a total infestation; they were running through the walls and everything else. They're gone now, and we haven't heard from them in well over a year.

Boy, can I relate. I had a huge mice problem last spring. When I left my car unused for two weeks while on vacation, they built a nest on the engine -- what a mess. I opened my gas grill to find a nest w/ babies in it. One day a mouse ran over my foot while I was driving, nearly caused a major accident when I pulled over (barely) and jumped out of the car. What a scene that was! NEver did find the damn thing and it took days for me to get over the trauma. My son went to get the lawnmower out of the shed and when he picked it up, about 2 dozen babies came running from under it. Now he has nightmares about that (so he says, lol). My neighbor set traps and found 17 in her basement. THank God none of them got in my house.

Well, we put Decon packets all around the shed and replaced them weekly for about 4 weeks -- haven't seen a mouse since then. I keep checking them and will replace them if they look chewed.

Good luck!

BTW, I thought getting a barn cat would be a great idea but my neighbors begged me not to -- they live for the birds that visit to feed in their yard and seem to spend a lot of time and money with this hobby. I told them if we have the same problem again this year, bye bye birdies!

We have lived here for 30 years. We were not surprised to have mice, since the development is in a former field. Our cats frequently catch them, inside only now, since they are inside only cats. We also use the no-kill traps and transport the mice far away from here. We had an exterminator come last week because of a spider invasion, and he showed us how the mouse droppings have pretty much covered the insulation in the basement and garage- it was awful! And a potential serious health hazard. So now we have to do something about the huge amount of droppings, and we reluctantly agreed to let the exterminator ...exterminate. I'm not happy about it, but the destruction and the health risk made it necessary.

I HATE sticky traps. I had one in the house and a poor little field mouse stepped on it. It was screaming, the kids were crying and I had to wash him with Avon Skin so Soft to get the glue off before I could turn him loose. It was awful.

Get yourself a cat or two - trust me, it works!

Oh dear, that is awful! My stomach would be in knots. That's why I can't kill anything. I get my DH to do it. It's too stressful for me.

The only mice problem I have is trying to get the money together to go visit them!! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I know of no better mousetrap (or deterrent to them ever setting up house)than a cat. Unfortunately, DH is allergic to cats! So if we ever get mice, we will be calling the exterminator. They breed too quickly to mess around with the traps.

LOL, Miss Park Avenue!

Yes, the mice have spread the word that my garage is the hot spot to vacation at this fall. EWWWWWWW!!!!

When I got out my Christmas nativity a few years ago, the wood and the straw had been chewed and it was quite obvious that my Nativity had been a "live nativity" at some time during the year. Baby Jesus and his party had a good dose of Lysol and I'm sure that Bethlemhem never smelled like that before!
