Anyone having trouble finding LEGO sets?

I'm habing an awful time finding some of the LEGO sets my kids want for Christmas! They have a few things on their most-wanted list and they are out of stock or outrageously priced when I can find them! Anyone else finding the same thing?!

One thing DD dearly wanted was the Ninjago Ice Dragon Attack set, which I can't find anywhere local, and when I CAN find it, they want two or three times what it originally cost.

My son has the Ice Dragon. I'll sell it to you for $100 :) I bought his at Target when they had a buy 1, get 1 half off sale around October. I got him the Blacksmith's shop as well.

:scared1: Wow, they don't come cheap, eh?! The worst thing was DS wanted to buy that set for DD and we went to our local Target which showed it being available. We must have only missed it by a few hours, and it was $14. We went straight home to order it online and it was $40+ (including shipping) and it just keeps going up!

I finally gave up and bought her another dragon (the Lightning Dragon, I think it was) which she will hopefully like, but I was sad to not be able to help DS find what she really wanted. :sad2: Thankfully I did manage to pick up some Ninjago dudes at the Kmart sale on Saturday, so hopefully they'll have fun with those and the other dragon. :thumbsup2

My nephew wanted a Ninjago set for Christmas too, and we've had a difficult time finding any for a decent price. My middle son is a big Star Wars Lego fan, and I bought a set for him from Toys R Us in late October when they had a good sale, but only because I've learned my lesson in previous years. In the past, I've found that waiting until Thanksgiving makes it almost impossible to get the Legos that he wants. We've had to wrap up a picture of the one we ordered to give to him several times when the sets we ordered became back ordered for a month or two. I feel your pain!

I ordered a couple of large sets on Lego.com. They had 10% off on Black Friday, maybe they have that all the time, I don't know.

My kids are older, I ordered the VW bus and the Pet Shop set...... both look amazing.

I think I have seen that one locally. Let me know if you can't find it by Wednesday (when I'll be out shopping again) and I will double check. I can pick it up for you. Only charge you whatever the cost of it is and shipping to send it to you....

I've had great luck ordering LEGO from Wal-Mart online and doing store pickup. Interestingly each set has been $10 cheaper online than in the store!

DD is into the Harry Potter LEGO sets right now - so those are the ones we've been buying.

We bought the Ice Dragon a couple of weeks ago at Target for $14. I was in Target today and they had a spot for it priced at $13.50 but no sets. I just checked Target.com and it has it listed as in store only. You can put in your zip code to see if it is available anywhere near you. I would also check back with Target if I were you.

Sears.com seems to have it available for shipping for the original cost.

And this is what happens with Legos! Wait until your kid develops an interest in something that's entirely discontinued! Eek!

(something I found online...they've been making Harry Potter Legos for quite awhile, but DS only got interested recently...some of the old sets are now priced only for adult collectors...one castle set from the 4th movie or so is priced at 699.99 on one site!!!!! so get 'em while you can and hope they don't get discontinued (or just start buying doubles and stashing them away LOL))

My son wants the Death Star! :rolleyes1 No way I am spending $400 on one set. I keep hoping for a deal, but it probably won't get down to where I think it is a deal.

Thanks for this info - I had searched nearby store inventory and DS and I made a trip to the one store that showed limited availability, but none were there. Now they all show as sold out. :sad2:

bumbershoot, when I tried ordering from Sears last night, it showed the $19.99, but when I actually went through the order process the price jumped to $39.99 plus shipping. I wasn't even sure that would be right, so I quit and just decided to go and try to get something else dragon-wise. :)

And sbaldasare, thank you for offering! I've exhausted places around here, if you happen to find it I'd be more than happy to pay you for gas, shipping, etc. if you happen to come across it!

Sounds like you need to go to the Lego Store in Downtown Disney! :thumbsup2 Target and TRYU have Legos BOGo 50% off this week, so keep looking!

Target.com had hte Death Star for 379.99 (and an add 5% if you use your Target card), but still.....my kids will never get it unless they buy it themselves!

I have a question, I went to get a lego set for my grandson and I dont know it seemed like for the pieces in it wasnt really worth the money. Am I wrong?

A couple of budget tips.

1) I just had a similiar problem with ordering online from sears. I got a great price on a toaster oven for around $15 and it showed in the cart for $15. Although when I proceeded to checkout it about doubled in price charging around $28. I called tech support prior to completing the order. He was able to see exactly what I was seeing and said that he could do a price adjustment after I placed the actual order. So I placed the order and come to find out because I chose in store pick up to avoid shipping charges he couldn't do it as he thought he could, but the store will be able to give me the credit and give me the sale price that it was supposed to be.

2) I don't know about your WalMart, but with our local WalMart they started offering to price match their own website. Prior to this year they would never price match. I'm not sure if it is because they now offer the in store pickup or why, but I am happy that they are!

I hope that helps with you finding your lego set at the price you want!

Just bought my son the Lego Anakin podracer set he wanted on overstock.com for $67 w/free shipping. It was $95 at Target and Toysrus...might want to check there.

I never seem to have trouble finding the sets I'm looking for:confused3
Check Barnes & Noble. They had a ton of Ninjago sets. I was able to use a 40% off coupon and got the HUGE ($120) Fire Temple set for about $67 with tax (and my 10% member discount). I also got several. Pirates of the Caribbean sets & Star Wars sets with coupons for about 1/2 the retail cost.
eta: my kids are HUGE Lego fans. Literally, the ONLY things on Ds#1's list are Legos. He eats, sleeps, and breathes Legos...LOL.

My DS10 is into Legos also. I have gotten five sets for Chanukah! I am done!! 3 are Harry Potter (1 big one), 1 star wars (another big one), and a technics I got on clearance at some point. There is another HP set I want to get him, but no deals. I might wait for his birthday in April.

I did get deals on all the ones I bought though!

Picked up Lego 4867 - Harry Potter/Hogwarts for $24.97 at Costco today. Had been $39.99. No idea when they marked it down but there were only 10-12 left. The guy behind me in line asked how much it was and he immediately jumped out of line to go back for one.
