Hi everyone. Do any of you have your own treadmill at home? I really enjoy walking on the treadmill at the gym but have a difficult time getting there. When I go it is after work and I pay my babysitter for an extra hour so I can go to the gym. There are evenings she can't keep my daughter the extra hour so I can't go. Other nights we have plans right after work and I could walk later in the evening but I don't have a sitter. Same with the weekends, no sitter. I've been thinking a while about getting a treadmill but they can be expensive but I want to make sure I get something decent. Any input would be great! Thanks!

DH and I have a Pro-Form. We bought pretty much the cheapest thing they had at Sports Authority. I did insist on digital (no knobs). It's worked fine for three years. We haven't used it all the time, but I think more often then they typically get used. I think it cost around $300, because I remember thinking that if I left the work gym for about a year and a half, the treadmill would pay for itself. If I were to get a nice one, I'd do more research and get a better brand/model, but the goal for this one was to make sure we would really use it.

I just bought a treadmill, after my old $10 one broke. I did some research on them and found out:
#1 get at least 2hp
#2 get at least 18X48 belt (actually I got a 17" and it's okay)
#3 get the in home warranty

I bought from Walmart Image 15.0 for $374, the warranty was $59.88. I'm happy with it. I like the features so far. I especially enjoy having it in my house to use whenever I need and can work out! And there's no time limit like at the gym.

You can also try craigslist for your area or the local paper to get a nicer one for cheaper.

HTH!

Mine is from Sears. My parents got it for me. It was $300. I love it. It does everything I want it to do.

Wow, I'm really glad to see how happy you all are and that you didn't have to buy a more expensive treadmill to feel satisfied. I am really going to seriously consider this now. I was afraid I'd have to spend alot more to get something decent. Thank you all so much!

I have had a treadmill for over a year. I like it. DS has a portable DVD player that I can watch concert videos on and the time just goes by fast. I think we paid 700ish--did get a digital one with some programming on it. You can change the incline while using it. It was from sears and half off at the time. I do not regret purchasing it at all.

We have a ProForm CrossTrainer. It has the power incline, counts fat grams & calories burned & has a pulse check. We've had it since 2004 and haven't had any problems with it. I think we spent around $350-$400 on it, purchased from the ProForm website, if I'm remembering correctly.

We also have a Proform it is a couple years old CR610.

I agree get the longer, wider belt and digital programming on it.

My dh and I use it all the time. I think in your situation you would get alot of use out of it as well.

Have fun choosing

I have an older one (was GMs) and I love it. :thumbsup2 We actually need to replace it since the motor is going out.

Haha - When I first saw the post I thought it was from OHmom!

Hi OhioMom!

I have a treadmill and I LOVE it. I just need to get off my rear and get back into using it!

I have a treadmill, and have to admit to a love/hate relationship with it. I have had it for about 7 yrs now. It is great, because I can use it whenever I want, rain or shine, and with the way the snow has been this winter, it has been getting alot of use. But I hate running on it. It is so boring. Walking is fine, I love the incline capability, I can even handle doing speed intervals, but to just straight run on it, to me, is really awful. I also have to admit that it has spent probably about 2 of those 7 years as a laundry catcher, and there was a while where we couldn't even see it! :scared1:
I think it would probably be a worthwhile investment for you. I would make sure to look over the features, and get one that does what you need, and not a bunch of extra stuff. There are buttons on mine, that I am sure we paid extra for, that I have never used, and at this point have no idea what they are even for. And make sure you try it out at the store before you buy. Buying one of your own, you probably don't want to go all out for the top of the line industrial strength model, and I remember some that I tried feeling really flimsy, like they were going to buckle. Good Luck!

My parents bought mine for me about 10 years ago from Sears - a ProForm something something for $1400. It is still amazing, after using it all this time -very cushiony, the motor has kept up very well, belt is perfect, etc. So, I think most treadmills that you buy, especially the ProForms, will stand up to rigorous use. Now go get one and rigorously use it! You won't regret it!

Oh, yeah, and love how I can hop on early in the morning, late at night, over the weekend, etc. after throwing on my workout clothes and grabbing some water from the kitchen. No locker rooms, time limits, or other people watching you run. ;)

I have a Nordic Trac 4100 that I love. Bought it from Sears about 3 years ago. It was expensive, but I have never regretted it. This is not the top of the line, but was more on the commercial side versus home use. Paid $750 but that's because it was a return to the store. Between my wife and I we use it every day although I have been running outside more now the weather is nicer (in S Florida).

But, we started out with a cheap $200 treadmill that we bought though the newspaper. Before we invested in a good one we wanted to make sure we used it enough to justify the purchase. After a year of constant use, we went out and invested in the treadmill mentioned above.

I love it. When I travel I compare the treadmills to mine and 90% of the time mine outshines them. It doesn't have all the bells an whistles, but the track is so comfortable.

I suggest you buy a used one to see if you are actually going to use it before you invest in a good one.

Also, I have a small TV set up right in front of the treadmill and we tape shows during the week so there is always something to watch. Sure makes the time go buy faster.
enjoy,
Duane

I wish! Than I wouldnt have to walk the dong in the cold.

Thats what you meant right?

This is pretty close to the one we have. Ours is a Nordic Track and we bought it back in 2004 in the spring. It's not the top of the line either, but it's not the bottom either. I love it.

You guys are awesome with all of your reviews! One of the things I really like about the one I always use at the gym is the handle bar where you grip it and it tells you your heart rate. If I use the program it will adjust the incline up and down to keep me at the rate I want. I like that it keeps me working! I do not run, lol! One day when nobody else was in that room I did speed it up to a jog for a minute but I felt so foolish, like all my "jello" was jiggling around on my hips!! So I quickly slowed down to my semi-fast walking and felt much more comfortable. Thanks everybody! :)
