Anyone have ROKU?

I'm tired of paying for PPV, and our tiny town has only 1 RedBox which never has anything good. And all RedBox selections are very limited -- you can't get older movies, etc.

My brother is trying to talk me into getting ROKU............he and his family absolutely love it. NOBODY else I know has it, or has even heard of it!

So I'm looking to you all for sage advice --- got any?

We have one and pretty much watch something through Netflix streaming every single day. I love finding new tv series and getting to watch the entire season all at once. We love our Roku!

I'm in love with my Roku.

99% of our tv watching is through Roku. We have an antenna on our tv for the networks, but only use it for the local morning news. I could live without the antenna....I could not live without my Roku.

I ordered ours on Friday from Amazon. DH is off on Tuesday when it should be delivered. He can't wait, I bet he has it set up and running by the time I get home.

Sorry to hijack OP, but what are some of the PP's favorite Hulu channels? We have Netflix already. Anything else we should know?

Roku is pretty much the only way I watch TV anymore. We have Netflix and HuluPlus (you have to get/pay for plus...can't watch the free Hulu).

I like that HuluPlus as current air shows, usually the next day...such as Raising Hope, Castle or Parenthood. They also have alot of older shows, like Dick Van **** and Mary Tyler Moore. Full series like XFiles, Firefly, Lost. It does not offer CBS shows or as far as I can tell CW.

I am looking into Amazon Prime too, it is similar to Netflix, only just streaming, no physical DVD options. It looks like they have new release movies available, where Netflix you'd have to get the physical DVD instead and wait awhile for it to become, if ever, streamed. And some shows the others don't have, like Supernatural.

I wish I could find Gilmore Girls somewhere. I might just break down and buy the DVDs. That was the show I missed most when I cut off my higher cable package.

We have Roku and my dh watches it constantly. We have Netflix and Hulu Plus but he says he doesnt watch hulu plus as much so we may drop that. I dont watch it as much. We have had a little trouble with connections a couple of times and had to seek help.

Love the Roku! We watch Netflix, Hulu Plus and I just bought an entire season of MLB.TV Premium for 2011.

I have the wireless HD Roku but I found it worked much much better hardwired to the router.

I'm another happy Roku lover We have the Roku in the bedroom and then we watch netflix on the blu-ray in our living room. We don't have cable at all. I love that the Roku also lets me watch Amazon stuff Now that they have the free viewing attached to having a prime membership I'm sure we'll have to get prime next year. As is right now we just watch our gradually growing purchased library on Amazon (I get a lot from when they have free codes, which is often). The Roku works beautifully. Like I said, we have two streaming devices the Roku and the blu-ray and the roku is easily comparable to the blu-ray imo.

We got our Roku last week and love it! An antenna for local channels works great also. Wish we had done this a long time ago.

I bought a Roku, but then returned it. The one negative for me was that it was not easy to play media off of a network share. I have an HTPC in the living room that I use to share all my local files. The other thing was that now-a-days you can pick up a Blu-Ray player that does everything the Roku does for just a little bit more than the Roku. I got a sony Blu-Ray player for $95 that has Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. and lets you play files off your network.

My brother and I got my mom one for Christmas. I was going to get her the basic but he said we should get her the best available so decided on that. He is a major tech nerd and had never heard of it. I think I found out about it from Netflix.
Anyhow my mom loves it. She has had Netflix for several years so she is set to watch all her movies and TV series. We can stream through the Wii but this is a great alternative.

In our case... we already had 2 DVD players. I got the Roku XD for $59. Sure, I could get a Blu-Ray player... but I have no Blu-Ray discs. What would be the point? I hope I never have to buy another disc again. Declutter!

I've had my Roku for about 6 months and love it. I mostly use it for NetFlix. Huluplus didn't really interest me. Its too bad they don't offer the regular Hulu on the Roku as well. I'm also an Amazon Prime member so I've been watching a few things there as well. Please note that the free prime member streaming does NOT include new releases. Most of the videos available are also on Netflix streaming. However, new releases are still cheaper than my cable company's OnDemand rate (Amazon is $3.99 for SD). The only negative so far on Amazon is the lack of a que for the free prime member streaming. I cannot figure out how to get videos in the library unless I buy/rent them. So for that reason, I prefer Netflix. Browsing through the options on the Roku is a pain.

I already have DVD players. May as well use them until they stop working. For the extra $100-$150 over the Roku it wasn't worth it. Not only that, many of the best features on MLB.TV aren't available when streaming through Blu-Ray players.
