We have it. With kids it has benefited us. I'm not sure we have "made money" on it, but it has helped.

It was offered at my previous job. My co-worker signed up for it and paid for the extra cancer protection, since cancer runs in her family. One month later, she was diagnosed with cancer, and she's often said what a good decision it was to sign up for Aflac. It covered a lot of her out-of-pocket costs and they paid her promptly when she submitted a claim.

I don't have personal experience but my best friend had back surgery and always raves about what a great decision AFLAC was.

I have no experience myself... but I was visiting with my cousin, who is battling rectal cancer as we speak. She has Aflack and said it is really helping them. It gives you cash to cover things. I can't remember what exactly it was...but something that her other insurance covers completely, Aflack still gives them $400 for it too. She is soooo relieved she has it.

I highly recommend it!
my son-in-law sells it & I send in the claims his policy holders turn in. There are all sorts of things they pay for, that someone would not foresee happening.
the major benefit programs are the accident, short term disability , and Cancer.
there are policies that are offered for group coverage, that are not available for individuals.

the minimum I'd recommend is the accident & cancer. my daughter broke her ankle & she got over $1000 in payments.

I had back surgery on Sep. 17th and will finally go back to work (hopefully) on
Dec. 12th. I have AFLAC short term disability and am sure glad I did! :thumbsup2

Will their coverage be affected in the future?

My dad had an AFLAC policy when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. They promptly repaid all out of pocket expenses and any charges over the % that insurance paid.

They were very thankful to have it.

I'm surprised at everyone's good experiences - I had AFLAC for one year and ended up having a claim (it was a hospital policy and we ended up having to take my son to the hospital that year). They denied the claim because they misunderstood it (for some reason, they thought that the name of the hospital, which ended in "hospital," was my son's primary care physician), and after about 20 hours total of going back and forth with them, sending in additional paperwork (which was lost - twice), talking to multiple representatives, etc., I decided it wasn't worth my time to fight it any more and gave up. I ended up talking to my company's AFLAC representative about it during my next open enrollment period and she apologized profusely and ended up getting me the reimbursement, but I canceled the policy after that year and have never gotten one since.

This was in 2009, so maybe their customer service has improved since then?

My employer offers AFLAC and, as the HR Director, I have looked closely at their policies. Frankly, many of the policies just don't seem worth the money. That said, I did purchase their cancer, whole life, and term life insurance policies and I am glad that I have them.

Eight months after purchasing the cancer policy, I was diagnosed with basel cell carcinoma, a common skin cancer that is not life threatening. It was removed via Moh's surgery. AFLAC promptly paid me $800. I was impressed with the ease of filing a claim and the speed of payment. As someone fair skinned with a history of wicked sunburns, I doubt that was my last experience with skin cancer.

I recommend looking closely at their policies and comparing the AFLAC benefits to the group benefits that your employer already offers. Take into consideration how much you will spend per year on the policy vs. any benefits derived from it. AFLAC also offers a variety of riders on their policies, such as premium refund in the event of no claims after so many years and increases in benefit maximums to keep pace with inflation. Not all reps will promote the riders, so ask.
