Hi I'm just a bit concerned and need advice please
I have had allegic rhinitis for yrs (all yr round hayfever), and now the doc thinks i have asthma as the two are closely linked.
He has given me an inhaler to use for when i get clogged up,as with the rhinitis i have post nasal drip at the back of my throat:eek:
I really am clogged up especially when i eat anything i have to cough after but nothing ever comes up.
Ive been using the inhaler the past few days and feel even worse, i feel like its all moved onto my chest and now i cant stop coughing! i sound awful and everyones getting fed upwith me here :rolleyes1
is it normal for this to happen or is it all a coincidence :confused3

Did he give you any other meds? I have had allergys my whole life, and was diagnosed with asthma a couple of years ago. I take 2 different pills each day, one in the morning and one at night. In the US an inhalor is considered more of a devise to use when you have a flare up, not as anything that will help control the asthma on a daily basis.

My eldest DD's is suffering at the moment, she has so many allergies and takes antihistamines every day, along with a nasal spray & we really notice the difference when she forgets the nasal spray!
Took her to the Dr's on friday as she was needing her Ventolin inhaler more frequently, he's advised that we double up on the dose of her Seretide and if she's no better tomorrow to take her back, she's still coughing but not needing to use her Ventolin.
I think you need to go back to the Dr's Netty, which inhaler did your GP prescribe?

Take care

Ive got a nasal spray for rhinitis and the doc has given me ventolin evohaler?? i just feel so much worse after taking the ventolin, ive got a bad cough and my chest feels like a cement brick is on it. and im out of breath more than i uually am, I wasnt like this before the inhaler.
I am going to the asthma clinic on the 7th december for the first time

hi
yes i do have rhinitis my self i have had it for about 3 years so far, not to sure how mine started but i original throught it was hay fever but it never went away.
my self i use hay fever tablets from about march to nov and a nasal spray "nasonex".
but my partner has asthma as well.
i think my self lucky i am not as bad her.

les m :santa:

ps i forgot to say be careful with the nasal spray as the first one i use was not good for me as it cause bad nose bleeds and the doctor had to change the nasal spray.

I have asthma and at times I get clogged up to the point Im heaving and coughing with it not a nice feeling and I find it real hard to catch my breath very scary hope you get it sorted

this time of year is very common for "flare ups" ds 10 has severe brittle asthma and a silent wheeze - our gp is excellent, but other drs who have never heard of silent wheezes have caused us much stress over the years.
josh has a evohaler, ventolin and serotide, we also have regular doses of steroids...
have you tried a steam bath? ok not v scientific, but hey, they work for josh, loads of hot water and a good book;)
hope you get it sorted soon
xx

Hi Netty :goodvibes, just wondering how your getting on, are you feeling any better?

Hi Netty :goodvibes, just wondering how your getting on, are you feeling any better?

I've now got a full blown cold, and still a horrible raspy cough!
been having a bath every day to help!

I have an inhaler as does my DD7

I have mine under control now , but the shortness of breathe was truly horrible.

i can't use the inhaler by itself and i have a spacer as I tended to cough more when I brethed in. I know it's a kids thing! but I just couldn't get the hang of it and it hit the back of my throat which makes it go dry, and then i coughed even more!

i have a brown one as a preventer and the blue one is or instant relief. you don't tend to need the blue one if the brown one is doing it's job. i only need it if I get a cold that goes to my chest.

DD7 is now on a lower dose and uses a cream inhaler , which is a very low dose and she is under control too so rarely uses her blue one.

i think you need to keep trying and ask for a spacer if you need one.
