Anyone have a Garmin Nuvi and have problems with it?

We bought one a year ago February. We love it! Got the lifetime traffic updates, it's great. Now we are spoiled! But, a few months ago on a trip, it locked up/froze. I was able to turn it off and on to reboot it, and we continued on. Last week, it did the same thing but we couldn't reboot it. When it finally did come on, all the maps were gone. Since it was fairly expensive, we would hope the "expected lifetime" would be more than 15 months! DH is going to call Garmin to see if it's just a software problem that can be covered under warranty, but I figured I'd ask here if anyone else had this problem and what they did to solve it.

I had the same thing happen with my TomTom. Now we have a Garmin nuvi.... so happy to learn that it has the tendancy to have the same problem. :(
 
I have one too. Most of the time it was on but we didn't put in an address, it would show the map of where we were. In the last month or so, the roads on the map would disappear but main roads or highways would only show. It still works if I put in an address though. I've had mine since January. :(
 
Yep, DH has been complaining that his just "freezes up". :thumbsup2

He had an older model that worked great for years and decided to upgrade to this model at Xmas, and was wondering if it was something he was doing or a Garmin problem. Sorry that it's happening at all, but he'll be glad to hear it's not just him :laughing:
 

Garmin has excellent customer service. they'll try fixes over the phone. If can't, you'll need to send it into them for repair.
 
My daughters Gamin froze last year. We contacted Garmin, shipped it back and they sent us a new one.
 
Do you have the most recent updates for your Garmin.
Garmin releases updates time to time to take care of certain things like freezes and such.

Only prob I have with my Garmin is wanting to take back roads instead of the freeway even though I have fastest routed checked.
 
We have had our Garmin Nuvi since spring of 2007 and haven't experienced any problems. Hope you can contact Garmin and see what is going on
 
OK, I'm glad we are not alone! Yes, he did call Garmin but didn't tell me the outcome.
