Anyone have a baby that always sounds congested?

My granddaughter, who is now 4 months old, always sounds congested. Her breathing is very husky. The pediatrician tells her mom that she's perfectly OK.

I dunno. She just sounds bad. She seems happy and healthy otherwise.

Anybody else ever known a baby like this?

Yeah one of my daughters was like for the first 6 months or so.

My DS6 was what I termed a "snurgly" baby. He just always snurgled and made a lot of noise. He was fine, and still is!

Yes, my daughter and my friend's son (they are the same age) both sounded like this during their first year. They both have acid reflux, which is what caused the congested breathing. Does your granddaughter have any other symptoms of reflux or silent reflux?

Not that I can tell. But she is pretty gassy.

My DH neices bab had this,,,,she sounded like she had congestion in her chest...they did all types of test & came up with the dx of an underdeveloped voice box that would clear up as she grew...its only been a few months & she still has it, but its not as bad

My DD has a husky voice. She has had it since birth, and my nephew has it, too, so I think it is hereditary. I have never been concerned about it. But if her breathing sounded husky, too, I might be concerned. She snores and whistles in her sleep, too, and I asked her pediatrician about that. She looked down her throat and said everything looks fine down there, so I have stopped worrying.

My youngest daughter has been like that off and on throughout her 3 years. I'm a nurse, so I just whip out my stethoscope and listen to her lungs to make sure everything sounds good. Her colds tend to last longer and settle in her chest.

She was diagnosed with dairy allergies and GERD when she was only a few months old. Wheezing and shortness of breath can be symptoms of dairy allergies.

DS3 was always congested sounding. I don't even want to tell you how many times he has had RSV. He has other respiratory issues too, including, but not limited to asthma. The only real sympton he ever had was congested sounding breathing.

If it wasn't for him having RSV, some of those tests that diagnosed him would never have been done since he otherwise was fine. It took much more than a normal look over to diagnose him.

In order to relieve some of his problems, he is probably going to have to have his anoids and tonsils removed. If it is bad, the baby seems sick quite a bit, I'd make sure your DD/DD-in-law has her pedi do a very in-depth analysis of it. According to our specialist, 80% of the time that congested/deep breathing sound is a sign of other things. Doesn't always mean overly problematic, but sometimes (as in our case) it does.

Yes my 7 week old ds sounds congested a lot! It is in his nose, not his chest and the doctors told me he is fine. Does that make me feel better?? nope! I worry all night long. They did say it could be the heat in our house and we switched him to soy (my dh and I did it on our own) and I notice a big difference. But he is still congested in his nose a lot.

I was like that as a baby. And I have a very deep barky cough that forever freaked my mother out thinking I had croup, which I never had.

My asthma and sinus issues didn't develop until I outgrew the perpetually wheezy point of my infancy.

DS was like that for the first few months of life. The first couple of winters with him he did have some wheeziness (is that a word? ) and we had to neb him a few times, but by the time he turned two he was fine.
