I am mom of twin girls (15). Would love to meet up with some fellow DIS'ers while we're at Twinsburg this weekend! Anyone going? Those who don't know about Twins Days- it is the largest annual gathering of twins in the world and it is AWESOME! There are usually around 2000 sets of identical twins there, plus many multiples (trips, quads). It is alot of fun and I recommend if you know or are a twin- GO! Just south of Cleveland. www.twinsdays.org.
Let me know if you're going- best of both worlds being at Twinsburg and meeting a DIS addict!

I have an identical twin sister who is married to my dh's identical twin brother, but we are never able to go because we all can't get away at the same time due to work schedules.

Maybe one day we'll make it there ... :)

Have fun!

So far we are planning on going it will only be the second time since our twins girls were born and they turn 7 on August 8. It's so much fun though. I think we may only go up on Saturday since it's only about 1 1/2 hours from our house

Grlpwrd, I think I knew you were a twin but wow, I didn't know you guys were married to identical twin brothers. That's awesome!

I'm an identical twin too... twins days sounds like a hoot, i've seen tons of coverage over the years.

We went one year by accident. We were driving thru and decided to stop. We have fraternal twins, and they were around 9 at the time. They were totally mesmerized by seeing so many duplicates! It was loads of fun even though my girls don't even looked related!!! :rotfl:

My twin and I will be there for most of the day on Saturday. We're leaving right from Twinsburg and driving to WDW. We're wearing Minnie hula tank tops and we're planning on walking in the parade. If I have my way (which I most likely will) we'll have our hair up in a bun!

OP, did you see about Andrew Miller passing away? Isn't that sad?

I will miss my DBK1029, but don't worry, I'll bring lots of presents for you!!!!

someday if my twins want to go, we will. Is it mostly identical twins?? Mine are fraternal

I live right by twinsburg and it's amazing how popular this has gotten over the years!!! It used to be just a small little festival LOL!

Now, it's fun to go to starbucks and other places nearby and it's like you'e seeing double:) LOVE it!

It's almost book worthy.. a town of twins!

I am going to try to stop up... have a family reunion to go to but maybe sunday...

To give you all a heads up. The organizers of the event got a HUGE (like $8 million)donation from a person who passed away. So the event might get even bigger.

I'm hoping they'll use some of the money to help twins from far away or in need to get here to Ohio. I think that would be a great use of it.

Let me see if I can find a news story so you can read yourself!

E-MAIL STORY PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION
CLEVELAND — A donation that the Twins Days festival is getting from the estate of two frugal bachelor farmers is enough to make some people do a double-take: as much as $5 million.

John and William Reiff, once recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's most identical twins, left most of their estate to the festival in Twinsburg, about 15 miles southeast of Cleveland. John Reiff died in 2005 and William five years earlier, but only recently have plans to develop part of the twins' suburban Philadelphia farm been worked out.

With the land deal expected to be completed this year, about $4 million to $5 million will go to the festival, Forrest Norman, a lawyer for the Twins Days Festival Committee, told The Plain Dealer in a story published Sunday. The festival committee intends to invest the money to help pay for operating costs.

The Reiffs, who attended their first Twins Days festival in the late 1970s, always dressed alike, talked alike and enjoyed dating other twins, said neighbor John Bechtel, who is also executor of their estate. The wiry, bespectacled pair won many "most identical" competitions over the years.

Norman said, "They were just a couple of old farmers from Pennsylvania who you would not think had two cents to rub together."

The annual Twins Days festival, a three-day event that begins Aug. 3 this year, attracts about 3,000 sets of twins, triplets and quadruplets and features contests such as those for the most alike and least alike twins. Over the years, it also has attracted scientists interested in genetic research.

Between trips to Twinsburg and to other twin events, the Reiffs lived frugally on a 154-acre farm that had been in the family for three generations. It was no model of agriculture, Bechtel said. A wood stove heated the house, and a 20-cow herd barely supported the dairy.

Before his death in 2005, John Reiff cut a deal with a development group that planned to use the farm, a rare piece of undeveloped land near Philadelphia, for residential housing.

Neighbors sued, but local officials, the developer and residents have finally agreed on a plan to build six houses and a park on the site, and 40 houses elsewhere. The historic farmhouse and tenant house, which fell into disrepair while the twins ran it, will be restored.

The Reiff brothers, who never married, gave most of their fortune to the Twins Days festival but also left $250,000 to four churches. None of their four living sisters was named in their will.

"They only had time for other twins," Bechtel told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "They were definitely different."

Just curious, do either of you have twins?? Do your kids (assuming DSis and BIL have kids) look like siblings rather than cousins?

What a neat story :goodvibes

We will not be going, but I just wanted to say that my fraternal DD's turned 15 yesterday!

We're back and it was a blast as usual. Had to come home early for family get together, never again will we leave early, I mean it'd have to be one pretty good reason to leave early, not "just" a family reunion. Okay I love family and all, but it just wasn't worth leaving our once a year fun filled event. My girls had so much fun and we left right after the parade this morning. This is not just for identical twins, I can't stress that enough. Fraternals I bet have just as much fun! Lots of triplets there this year. Keep in mind- its not JUST twins, its triplets and quads too- and more. :)
It is so much fun- everyone is just super friendly, and so happy to be there. Hard to describe to someone. Anyway- I'll try and figure out how to post a few pictures later (tomorrow maybe).
Lots of far travelers and lots of first timers there this time. There were twin guys from India who came- just for this event. Spoke pretty broken English but they had fun. Also met twins from KY, NE, and some cuties from Miami, FL. The Miami guys said they heard about this two weeks ago on MTV and made ressies right away for it. Ahhh- to be 20 again.... haha

That is so cool! I have fraternal twins, maybe we'll go some day!

I just ran across this thread just now.
I have 10yr old fraternal boy/girl twins. I had read about Twin Days a few yrs back when I used to subscribe to TWINS magazine, back when my kids were infants, toddlers. I stopped subscribing to TWINS mag. a few yrs ago.
I always thought the Twin Days were for identical twins, triplets, not fraternal. I'm glad to hear fraternal twins are invited too! Glad to also hear they expanded the festival, as I remember back in the late 1990's reading in TWINS mag. that it was a 1 day event and small event back then.
I don't hear about Twin Days in my area at all.
Hopefully someday my family and I will go. My twins don't look anything alike at all, maybe they will win the least look alike prize ;)

Any pics posted from Twin Days would be great!

I'd like to make it one day with my little guys. Do families take all of their children or just the mulitples? How do the other children feel, do they have fun too?

As an identical twin myself, this is something I'm hoping my sister and I get to do. I'd love it if this coincided with the Red Sox playing in Cleveland - that would make our DH's happy as well! Guess I'll have to check this out for next summer once I know the Red Sox schedule.
