We are toying with the idea of booking a pkg with free dining. Have never been during this period well since it became "free dining" we haven't. I realize I will need to buy at least a one day tix. This is my question: Could I just take the tix that I buy with the pkg and upgrade it to an AP with DVC discount?

Yes, you can do that.

That's an interesting question that I had not thought of. We currently have a credit card through AAA that we use for Disney passes. We were toying with the idea of getting a Disney credit card when we join DVC, but if Tara is correct, I should be able to use the AAA reward certificates I get to buy a 3 days pass, and then upgrade to the AP with the DVC discount when we go "home", correct?

It depends upon the type of ticket you're talking about.

If you are taking about a AAA reward system where they give you cash/check incentive, then you actually buy the ticket and upgrade...yes.

If on the other hand AAA, using their official Disney sponsorship status, has obtained some sort of special promotional ticket, it likely could not be upgraded. Just as promotional free passes used for special "give aways" can not be upgraded.

Thanks Chuck S. The tickets would be regular Disney tickets. Esentiallly, we put all of our expenses for the month on our AAA card, and they give us back gift certificates that can be used in their stores. Since AAA is a ticket agent for Disney, we can use the gift certificates to buy Disney passes. So, like you said, I should be able to upgrade the tickets and not have to get a new credit card. That is good news, since I was not looking forward to getting another card, especially one from Chase.
