Anyone going Geocaching this weekend? **NEW CACHERS...POP IN!**

PD, you're the first one I've heard say that. :( Have you had luck with it?

Well, we did some caching while on vacation last week. We got an FTF at "Big, bigger..."! :cool1: (We posted a couple photos on that one.) We then headed off to Gettysburg where we nailed 9 Virtuals and 2 Regular caches. We're still awaiting confirmation for a few of our Virtual answers so we should be logging them soon. Our DD and new SIL's wedding went very well and they're now enjoying the final few days of their honeymoon. Too bad they're not cachers because they headed to Myrtle Beach, Savannah, GA, and now New Orleans!
See you down the trail!

Sounds like a great time, Mike! Congrats on the FTF! :teeth: Interesting with the Virtuals. You send your answers and wait for a reply? Around here we log the find and send an e-mail at the same time. I only have 2 virtuals, just got my second this weekend. But so far no problems with an answer. LOL! :)

There was recently a Salvation Army Kettle Cache here. People from all over the place came to participate. One person commented on micros being big in this area. Micros annoyed me in the beginning, but now I find them easier to find than regular caches! :) I'll take a micro any day. Just ordered a couple Mr. Micros myself. I know where one is going all ready.

Glad to hear the wedding went well! They could certainly find caches in those places.

Happy caching!

Well, we don't always have to have our answers verified before posting a virtual find but some cache owners ask that so I do it when they require it.
I probably mentioned this before but we have many micros in our area. That's because we had a cache thief going around last summer stealing quite a few ammo boxes and other regular caches. Everyone got tired of replacing them so people began hiding micros. The thief didn't seem interested in them. Now there are regular caches popping up again and the thief hasn't been heard from this year.

Glad the thief hasn't been around. It's terrible that people would do that. :( I did find a Jeep TB that I placed in a cache. I was back there the next morning about 6:45 a.m. because I forgot to get the number off the TB and couldn't log it without it. Did that. Later in the day there were posts that people specifically went to retrieve the TB, but it was gone. :( The owners of the cache finally logged it as missing. :( That TB hasn't had any activity listed since then. :( Every now and then I read of caches being muggled. I have an ammo can I bought a couple weekends ago. Hesitate to put it out there although it would be a lot of fun. Will have to think about that one.

If there were instructions to contact the cache owner prior to posting a find, I'd be doing that also. Haven't seen one like that yet.

Off to the doctor this morning because of who knows what...poison ivy? oak? Praying not a problem from a tick!  Wish me luck.

I hate when I can't find a cache! DS and I searched and searched and searched. Didn't find one we were looking for today. And they said it was easy! Someone said that it blends in well. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

No real luck. I found one cache but really it was the long timers that pretty much found it; they just let me do the final part.

BTW, I was with a BIG group and they all said I had an awesome GPS but that they really didn't like using it. They just liked all the features.

You should give it a shot again. Maybe it was just the type of cache you were after. Personally, I can't stand the ones in the woods. I have a lot of trouble with them. Give me the urban and beach caches. :) The ticks love me, so I'm giving the woods a break.

I'm looking to put a few urbans out there. Know where one will be going, just have to get the log together and put it out!

We managed 3 finds yesterday and are now over the 150 finds plateau! :cool1: :Pinkbounc
We also reactivated one of our micro-caches that had been archived since April due to flooding in the park in which it is hidden. It is now in a much safer spot.
How is everyone else doing?

Congratulations, Mike, on 150+!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

It's killing me to not go out and find something...anything!! I'll even find a flag pole and post the coords for Pete's sake! :teeth: Looks like I'll be doing virtual caches for a while...as soon as I get out.

Ran into a medical problem this past week. Was in the hospital overnight on Tuesday, have a home health nurse visiting and drawing blood every day regulating numbers until things are settled with new meds. :( This is NOT fun!! I want to go find something! :magnify:

Anyone else hunting and finding? :teeth:

I did my first Reverse Cache today!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Okay...so I'm supposed to be at home, still flat out on the sofa. But I was out for a doctor's appointment and just happened to be in the neighborhood of an American flag! :teeth: Took that picture and got the coordinates. NEAT!! I like this type!! Next will be to find a Victorian house...after the doctor lets me escape that is. :)

Glad to do this today. I was in such withdrawal from not caching!!!

Pin Wizard,
We hope you're feeling better soon!

Thank you!! Need the numbers in blood work to come up before my doctor will let me up and back to work. :earseek: I'm STILL hoping to be at work on Monday. Numbers aren't up enough as of today. :faint: Increasing dosage in medicine again tonight. :faint: Will take the good wishes!!! Thanks! :)

I see you've been busy, Mike. Gorgeous "Painted Lady!" :)

Yes we have! I had completely forgotten about Locationless (Reverse) Caches until I read one of your recent posts. We have a nice sized list of them now and we are going for them almost daily. In case you don't already know, it appears that Geocaching.com will be removing this type of cache permanently on January 1, 2006, so grab them while you can. What you have found up 'til then will still count in your totals but you will no longer be able to claim them. I think we have found around 15 or so the past week. We are closing in on 200 finds (171 now). Tyson, the FTF king, just reached 1000! We may make that one day but I doubt we will ever catch CCCooperAgency: almost 11,000!!!! That's some serious caching!
Has the Dr. released you yet? Have you found a Painted Lady? Ours was just across the river in NJ. We also grabbed a train station that is no longer being used as a train station just across the street from our painted lady. Our US Flag was just up the street a few blocks so we did well in that area. There's also a stream train that we plan to get that is nearby. Yesterday, we managed to find an old, converted firehouse.

Let's hope I get this posted on the third attempt. LOL! Operator error with pictures that lost everything.

Yes, I did read that reverse caches are going away. :( I especially like them since being put on the "be careful" warning from the doctor. I got a great lion statue the other day. Will have to get the film developed. Gee...I really should spring for a digital camera now! :)

Congrats on the finds, Mike! Wow! You found about 15 already...way ahead of me. :teeth: I'm on the hunt for a train now. I know of one where I grew up in NJ that's a restaurant, Victoria Station. At least it was when I was still up there. And another in Boca Raton, FL when I lived there was a restaurant and museum of some sort I think. I haven't run across one here yet though.

Congrats to Tyson! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc CCCooper Agency is something else. I found a cache in Hampton the other day, and they were the last log just before I signed. Will have to look them up and see how long they've been doing this.

I went back to work on Tuesday. Yea!!! Tough getting back in the swing of it though. Hoping next week is easier. I think it will be since someone was on vacation this week, and she returns on Monday. I can at least hand her responsibilities back. :) And my doctor gave me a full week until I need another blood test! Yahooooooooooooo!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc So that will happen on Tuesday. So far, so good. This thing is nerve wracking though.

Yes, I found a few Painted Ladies, and they're all in the same neighborhood. One is a bed and breakfast, the rest are private homes. (Think I will post this and then add pics by editing the post since I'm having problems with Image Station.)

A converted firehouse? I'll have to hunt that one also. I think today we're off for a water tower and a regular cache in Chesapeake that we searched quite a while for but haven't found yet. Hated it when I e-mailed the person for a hint and she said a three year old found it that day. LOLOLOL! :faint: Okay, it's low on the fencing!!! :)

Have fun!!

And my mermaid!

Pin Wizard,
Nice Painted Ladies! And, I like the mermaid. Is that a locationless cache, also? We have done a few regular micros recently but no locationless caches. We'll probably grab a few more of them soon, though. There are a few within a couple miles of our house that we just haven't logged yet. We finally found one micro after 4 tries but we needed a pretty good hint from another cacher. It was a real doozy even though it was in plain sight! Good caching!
Mike of Team SAR-Dogs

Thanks! Yes, the mermaid is a locationless cache. Mermaids similar to this one are all over the Norfolk area. They were used for a fundraiser of some sort I believe.

Congrats on finding the micro! I don't log a DNF until I give up on them. I've been to some three times and still haven't given up. But one was really bugging me. Finally logged a DNF, and someone sent me an e-mail with a good hint. Darling son found it! :teeth: That had to be our 4th time there. These people just LOVE hiding things in "tick" areas. LOL!

Spent most of our time on the weekend placing a couple caches out there. Two were approved, the other is too close to another cache...of course! After I finally got it wired to a tree. :) Trying to see if there's a way to figure out how far you are from another cache without downloading waypoints. Went to Sports Authority looking for the cable to hook it up to the computer, but they didn't have the one for the GPS I have. I can always order it online though.

Last night the approver e-mailed me that there's one he shouldn't have approved because it's too close to another. Gee...I would think he'd notice that right off the bat. So I'll have to move that one. Where, I'm not sure. I'll probably have to change the container since a magnet won't stick to anything else around there. Almost want to ask others if they would move their "jungle" caches. If I move this, I don't know if I can get it at this place with a GORGEOUS view...especially at night!

Get those locationless caches nearby! Happy caching!!

Today we had fun with a cache in a tree! I checked the log to see who last found it because it was pretty high. Yup, one of the tall guys! Darling son climbed the tree and I handed him a long stick to knock it out. :teeth: Success!! He didn't get it quite as high back up, but awfully close.

We managed an FTF on Monday on a cache called the Disney Cache! It is located in Quakertown, PA. When I saw it was still not found at 5:00 AM Monday, I took a vacation day and off we went. The cache was stuffed with Disney toy type articles. We took an FTF button and left a Conservation Button from the Animal Kingdom.
We also had an experience with a cache placed up high. It is in the top of a road sign along a pretty busy street. We had to get a forked tree branch to lift it out and replace it and I'm fairly tall. One cacher logged that she put her young son on her shoulders to get it. That must have been a sight! We're closing in on 200; only 11 more to go. Our Lehigh Valley GeoCachers annual Fall Picnic is Sunday and a few caches have already been hidden for that event cache.
As for placing a cache, they must be 1/10 mile apart or about 528 feet. You can use your GPS to locate a cache and then move at least 530 feet away to place another.
Good caching!
Mike
