Anyone going Geocaching this weekend? **NEW CACHERS...POP IN!**

The virtuals are still fun, and there are the caches at Celebration city which is technically Disney property. We did make a stop there and had a good time. I loved the area!:thumbsup2

Mike...So glad to hear that your DGS's issues have straightened out! :banana: :banana: :banana:

I was sorry to see virtuals leave. They've always been a lot of fun, and they show us some really interesting places. Every now and then I see one get archived. :( I wish people would pass them along to someone else as opposed to archiving. At least I had a fix when we were in DC last December. :)

My first hide was published today :cool1:(GC1WR89) and was found within 2 hours!:thumbsup2

I'm pretty sure that they don't allow virts to be adopted.

Really? There are a bunch in DC that belong to people other than the original owners. Hopefully, they didn't put a stop to that. Just one example, Mountain Man in GA has a few that belonged to others. And I'm not sure how his name is spelled, whether it's full spelling or somehow abbreviated.

I had some time for a short visit, so here I am!
We now have a 2nd DGD, Caitlin Michelle, born 8/11/09! Mother and daughter are doing fine as is our daughter, Melissa, and Rider, our DGS (born 5/20/09).
We were able to take our 3 1/2 yo DGD, Erin, caching on Friday and she led the way with the GPSr and a hiking stick. There are some photos on the cache page "Our First", GCYGFW, http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=0ab9c065-6f9e-4a9f-b351-3face94e8530.
We also managed to get out Saturday for a 3rd To Find and again today to do a multi we failed on several years ago.
Good caching, everyone!

Hey there MiJo! It is great to hear from you again! Your DGD is such a cutie! Looks like she had a great time doing some caching with you! Congrats on the new grandbabies!!! Thats 3 :dance3: now isn't it, and all girls!

We went to a caching event this past weekend and had a great time. Here is the event we went to: GC1V2B7
It was crazy! We drove over 300 miles to go to this place for a 4 hour event and a hamburger. Moonshine Ill, population of 2 :lmao: We hit a big milestone and finally got to 1,000 finds, we also got our first 50+ finds in a day.
How about everybody else...any caching adventures to share?

Actually, it's 2 girls and 1 boy: Erin (the cacher); Caitlin (Erin's sister); and Rider Elijah (our DGS).
We have the annual Lehigh Valley Geocachers picnic coming up on the 27th and we're hoping to make it. We also have a trip to WDW coming up on October 4! We can't wait!
Congratulations on 1000 finds! We're nowhere near that, after 6 years of caching, but I did hit 1000 posts on the DIS today! Of course, that took 9 years! :lmao:

Congratulations on all the grand babies, Mike! Wow! I can't believe Erin is 3.5 already. Time certainly flies by. I'll take a look at your cache shortly. :)

Congrats on the milestone, lilallybean! Glad you're having fun and getting out there. I have been a bit burned out myself. LOL. We went out with some of the Richmond cachers a month or so ago. Nothing since. Even missed the Hampton Roads annual picnic which was Saturday. Ugh. LOL. I hope the caching bug bites again when the fall weather arrives. Darling son now has a driver's permit, so I'll let him do the driving! ;)

Not much else going on here. Hope all is well!

Hi, Geocachers! Long time, no speak! ;)

Anyone find any great caches lately? Anyone planning to do a bit of caching during the holidays? We visited relatives in NC this month. Pick up a lucky #13 caches while there! Wooo hooo!! :)

Good to have some exchange on here again! Is that your son??? WOW, he sure has grown up since we started chatting on here! So, how many caches are you up to now? I remember when you hit 1,000...seems like ages ago. Well, we finally hit 1,000 ourselves! :cool1: I have teamed up with another woman who I get together with on Wednesdays and cache, or go shopping, or out to eat. She is a homemaker and her hubby is (also a cacher) is out of town often. With her help I have even got several puzzles done!We did 51 caches in one day. We have hidden several new caches that have gotten some good reviews from seekers. We don't generally just hide a cache, we like to make them a tad different. :banana:
Tomorrow there is an event that we are going to. There is a reopening of the highway in St. Louis after it has been shut down for almost 2 years to be fixed up. The event is in the middle of the highway! It is opened tomorrow just to bikes, skaters, walkers, and of course us!
Lets hear what everybody else is doing!

Checking in! It has been a little while. I have been spending most of my DIS time on the DIS Dads Club forum.
We haven't been doing much caching lately due to chores around the property and spending time with our grandkids. We did get over to Merrill Creek Reservoir a couple weeks back to drop off a TB that needed to score NJ. I really hope we can get out over the holidays as I'll be off for 12 days.
Yesterday, we were to get 1-3 inches of snow but our deck has about 8 inches on it! I can't see the driveway yet (too dark) so I don't know what that or the roads are like. Hopefully, this isn't going to be snowy winter for us.
We (DW, DS and I) made it to WDW for 6 days in early October and we had a great time! We stayed at POFQ, DW's favorite resort, and we managed to hit all of the parks, including the MK twice. I don't know if we will be returning anytime soon; maybe when one of the grandkids is ready to make the trip.
I guess that's it for now.
Good caching! :thumbsup2

51 in a day!!:thumbsup2!!!.......I was quite satisfied when my DW and I found 18 (at least 7 were nanos) during a weekend in Newport RI.

I now have 4 hides. The mild weather has made caching a nice late fall activity. When the snow flies, and piles, I'm sure that opportunities and my success rate will decrease.

I just found this thread. How fun - my husband and I are also cachers. Well mostly him but I go along for the ride. He has a goal to get all 50 states and as many countries as possible. We also have a travel bug with the same goal. He also has a goal to get all of the counties in Texas. He is working on that and gets closer all the time.

Kelli

Welcome, Kelli! :wave2: Sounds like your husband plans on keeping you both busy with this little hobby/sport/addiction. :thumbsup2 Have fun!

Mike...Hope you got out of all the snow without too much trouble. Wow! Our forecast actually says we'll have snow on Christmas Eve. Yeah, we won't hold our breath for that! :) We want real snow, not a dusting that doesn't stick. :teeth: Glad to hear that you got a bit of caching in. And "yay" for the Disney trip! Woooo hoooo!!! Hope any and all current projects are going well, and hope you enjoy your upcoming vacation no matter what you do.

BunsenH...Congrats on your hides! I'm with you...I can't comprehend finding 51 caches in a day. LOL!

lilallybean...51!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! Tops for us is 20 in a day. LOL. You must have been out there sunrise to sunset. What's the trick? Great to hear that you have a new caching buddy. A buddy certainly makes things more fun. How was the event?

P.S. Yes, that's my son. How did he get to be a Junior in high school?????????

:magnify:

Merry Christmas, everyone!

The newest version I've seen...from the Cache Advance site.

T’was The Night Before Cachemas

Twas the night before Cachemas, when all through the house
Not a computer was stirring, not even a mouse;
The caches were submitted to Geocaching.com with care,
In hopes that the reviewers would soon be there;
The cachers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of ammo cans danced in their heads;
And momma in her beanie, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap,
When on the phone there came some texts,
I sprang from the bed to see what was next.
Away to the netbook I flew like a light,
Tore open a browser and pulled up the site.
The backlight on the keyboard of the new open window
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But new cache listings from eight reviewers
With a little old hider, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Cache Nick.
More rapid than eagles his caches were approved,
I whistled and shouted and was so moved:
“Now Mnt-Man! now Cache Effect, now Krypton and Max Cacher!
On Keystone, on Nomex! on Hemlock and Roadrunner!
To the top of the queue! to the top of the call!
Now cache away, cache away, cache away all!”
As dry leaves that before hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the cache-site the FTFers they flew,
With a bag full of swag, and Cacher Nick too!
And then in a twinkling, I heard en-route,
The prancing and pawing of each cachers boot.
As I drew on my headlamp and was turning around,
Down the trailhead Cacher Nick came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fleece, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all stuck with twigs and soot;
A bundle of swag he had flung on his back,
He looked like a newbie just opening his pack.
His coins, how they twinkled, his travelers how merry!
His camo was like roses, his hides on my Cacheberry!
His small little micro was drawn up like a bow,
And the regular was quite the show;
The stump of a tree he held tight in his grip
And the logs it encircled his cache a barrier strip;
He had a five star difficulty and a three star terrain,
That confounded me and gave such pain!
The cache was stocked and had such wealth,
I laughed when I saw it, in spite of myself;
A lift of the skirt and a twist of the lid,
Soon gave me to know I was not out-did;
We spoke not a word, but went straight to work
Signed all the logs and turned with a jerk,
And laying the coordinates to the car,
We could tell it was not too far;
We sprang to the cachemobile, to the Nuvi gave a go-to,
And away to the next cache we all flew.
But I heard him exclaim, ere the logs were all signed,
“Happy Cachemas to all, and to all a good find.”

-Merry Christmas everyone!
-Lisa

It looks like things have been quiet here for a while. There hasn't been much going on here is Easton except for shoveling snow! We have had a miserable winter, as far as I'm concerned, with several major snows in February. We haven't done any caching at all since my arthritic knees don't like tromping around in knee deep snow. We have been spending a lot of time with our grandkids and had the whole day with Erin yesterday.
Our Navy son has been recommended for a tour with the Blue Angels so he has finished up his application packet and handed it in. It was a major project! Now, he has to wait to see if he is to be considered for an interview. If he gets accepted, we could be off to Pensacola or El Centrol, CA, for a vacation at some point. I'm sure the competition will be very tough but he's hopeful.
I guess that's about it. I can't wait for warm weather!

Hi, Mike! :teeth: Looks like I chose the right day to pop in on the DIS! :thumbsup2

I'm with you on the weather. I know we've had a few snow storms in VA and have had enough of it. LOL. I can't imagine how it is in PA. Even DC was inundated with it. Just imagine all the caches buried under snow. :eek: :earseek: December of '08 we were in Northern VA and did some caching there. Even there the caches were under snow covered over by ice. I remember looking at an area of a park with the snow, the decline of the hill and said...forget it! ;) We haven't been out caching this winter at all. The last we were out was while visiting family in NC at Thanksgiving! In the summer I was saying I was leaving some area caches in the woods for the winter when bugs and snakes wouldn't be such a pain. Ha ha. So much for that. Now there's a great new series being placed out there...Star Spangled Banner Geotrail. Looks neat! Some of those caches just popped up in our area. They're also in MD and I believe will be placed in areas along the Chesapeake. I haven't read all the details of it just yet. But it will be fun!

Glad you're spending time with the grandkids!! Nothing better than that in the cold winter months. :) And Congratulations to your son on his new possible opportunity with the Blue Angels! Woooo hoooo!!! FANTASTIC!!! I'm sure that even being considered and given an application says a lot about him!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Will cross fingers that it works out for him.

I'm with you...come ooooooooooooooooooooooooooon, spring!

Not much new here either. Just work, work, work (thank goodness,) and darling son has now started lacrosse practice for the season. Yikes! It's awfully cold out there for those kids to be playing in an open park. But it's their "practice season" right now.

Oh, one other new thing...the girl in the photo below is someone in our development and a friend of darling son. That is until recently...they're now dating! :) Sweet!!

Hope everyone else chimes in...would love to hear what you've been up to! popcorn::

Caching conditions up here in Mass have not been too bad. We've received just enough snow that footprints are assisting with some new hides.:laughing:
I'm trying to reach 150 before my 1st anniversary of caching. A couple new ones were published yesterday a few miles away, so I hope to check them out tomorrow.
