Oohhh. I hope mother nature is on our side. 8/10--8/15 DTD hotel. I'd rather deal with unbearable heat & crowds than a hurricane. First time trip for sis & her DD11 & DS4.5
We're going Aug. 14-21 to CSR.........
Two years ago Charley affected our Aug. trip and all flights were cancelled to Orlando Airport for days.....we had to get in the car and drive 18 hours straight to get there....but then it was wonderful as usual.
DH is worried about hurricanes this trip........I refuse to think about them.
On the bright side, it's been a pretty quiet hurricane season so far!
We'll be there!!! We're there 8/29-9/4, and if a hurricane chases me home from my vacation-- it won't be the first time (it will be the third) so I don't worry about it anymore.
My DH will not like it if I have a trip planned when a Hurricane comes, and not cancel it, there is a lot of work to do for the storm, so it wouldn't be fair to him. Also, the dogs would freak out if I wasn't there to "comfort" them.
I understand where your coming from. Other than our trip to WDW in Sept. We try to take trips at different times during cane season. That way there's at least one adult to shutter up, etc for a storm.
Since we are ALL going in mid Sept. to WDW, we'll go ahead and shutter most of the house, what we don't do, my brother will come over and finish-the easy ones. Then we'll just hope for the best.

He also has Rental Property, so he has to put the shutters down for that too. I have one of those Accordion Shutters for my front window, so thats pretty easy to do. The back of the house has the shutters down ALL the time, its like fort Knox, no-one can break in, plus we can't see out, but, we don't use that area of the house anyway.
"Things" are starting to develop over the tropics, near the eastern tip of Cuba, and the southwestern Atlantic. Another one east of the Leeward Islands in 2-3 days might be tropical storm Chris! THEY must KNOW I am going to WDW in 12 days!!!!!
We are celebrating our 10 year anniversary in October, and were supposed to go on a gulf cruise. However because of recent years we decided it was too risky, and are going taking the family to Disney instead. August is really pretty mild compared to Sept/Oct, those are the bad times for us up here in Pensacola. I'm sure everyone will be fine in August- its holding out for us because my family has all the luck! The way we see it, we could either be at home with no power and miserable, or at Disney having a "vacation"!
We generally go during "hurricane season", although not in August. Last year, WILMA joined us at OKW, but it really wasn't a big deal. By mid-day, most everything was re-opened.
I suggest you take some extra food (snacks?), something to drink, and some extra entainment stuff in case you have to be in your room for a while. Other than maybe a slight inconvenience, if one does come, you should "weather" it fine!
Have a great time!
