Anyone getting worried about March Break Travel

And the real issue is passing the virus around by people without "symptoms". That's what they keep saying at work is watch for symptoms. You can infect people if you don't show symptoms and more than that, how the heck are you supposed to know if you don't show symptoms? LOL My brain really can't understand why this isn't easy to understand.

Just wanted to let everyone know how much i appreciate following along with this thread. It started a few weeks ago with a legitimate question, the discussion has remained civil and people are supporting each other as they reach the decision that is best for their family.

I feel badly for those of you who have postponed and/or cancelled highly anticipated trips, it SUCKS when you're forced to spend so much time planning these out to the minute detail now so you'll be even more acutely aware of what you'll be missing every single day. If you've got kids it will be even harder :(

For those of you who decided to push on regardless,Enjoy yourselves and WASH YOUR HANDS!

Hugs to all of us and lets try not to spiral into a fear based frenzy.

"They should just ban ALL travel. Even if you travel within Canada, you might still come in contact with "internationals"." per ilovetotravel1977

It's kind of starting to look that way. We can't stop this thing the only thing we can do now is slow it down.

I was so looking forward to our end of April trip to Disney. In the last two days I have come to the realization that it is not going to happen. I only hope others feel that way as well and minimize the speed with which the virus spreads through our country.

It's no longer an "Our family will be fine if we get sick" it's become a " We must protect ourselves and our neighbours and country". The money lost on a vacation not taken is tough to stomach but there are bigger forces at play here. Please do the right thing.

Completely agree with you . We can excitedly plan our trips as a group when all of this is over .

I’m a lucky one because my Disney trip was right at the start of the spread, before travel to the US was flagged as even worth a second thought.

But I had April travel plans too that we’ve cancelled. It was just a weekend getaway, but our plan was to attend a big event. We’ve cancelled. Even if the event goes on (which I highly doubt. It’s a local comic con, and with big ones in the US getting postponed or cancelled, I feel like a little Canadian one is not gonna make it...), we don’t feel comfortable picking a little trip over our community’s wellbeing. We’re a young, healthy family. We aren’t at any increased risk. But the risk isn’t for us so much as our extended family, our coworkers, our neighbors.

I’m really sorry for everyone who is watching their plans slip away, whether it’s a vacation to Disney or somewhere else. It sucks. Our vacation spots will be waiting once we’re through this mess, though, and hopefully this way we all make it through together and with relative ease.

Yes @ottawamom well said.
We are in the process of finding out things to cancel or reschedule. For whoever decides to still go in the next few weeks I hope you have an amazing trip. The crowds should be lower which is a definite plus, but wash your hands! lol I hope the parks don't close, but I just don't know anymore. I'd be surprised if they didnt do something. Anything is possible at this point. Such a big trip to gamble on uncertainty.
This is such a disappointing time for all of us who have made the tough decision to cancel a trip that has had so much planning and excitement put into it.
I think we need to start a thread for all of us who are rescheduling or cancelling so we can all cry together!

My DD10 is a cheerleader and today they cancelled the next two competitions because events with more than 250 people are now banned in QC. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure the National Championships in Niagara Falls early April will probably be canceled too. She will be so disappointed!

NHL games are also cancelled. It’s getting bad.

It's "getting real" for me. With cases in Ottawa now, one area of my employer sent an email to staff that a few people in that building were staying home to self isolate as they may have come in contact with someone who may have it... Thankfully not my building, but I brought my lap top home for March break in case I can't go back to work when that's over. And I am now glad I cancelled my March Break cruise in December, though I am sad we won't be going anywhere, we will stick close to home, may still visit my parents who are nearby, and hope for the best. I am not so worried about catching it myself, or my son (since I have heard it's usually mild in children) but I certainly wouldn't want to spread it anywhere!

I have to say, I am receiving a lot of emails for various stores, delivery services and such explaining the measures they are taking. And I am glad we have universal health care so the tests should be easy to come by if necessary (and provided there are enough of them).

In the column of "it's getting real now" and how it's hitting our household:
Hubby does training for several companies who are instituting the "no travel for work" and he's had cancellations today for sessions in March & April with
Bruce Nuclear
Waterloo School Board
Health Canada
Canadian Food Inspection Agency

I just got a text from him that it's also hitting the consulting side of his business (he's a programmer as well and has systems across Canada and a new one going live in the states soon)
A company that we call Valdemort because he has a complete non-disclosure contract has instituted work at home policy and his visit for next week was cancelled

This will hit us in our wallet big time because he won't be covered by the announced coverage yesterday -- no EI for self-employed unless you want to hand over your arm & leg for the premiums and the personal insurance he has covers 35% :crazy2:

And what will be a difficult thing for me to deal with - our daughter has tickets to see Elton John next weekend in Toronto and i highly doubt the concert will take place. She doesn't deal well with change!

Will Ontario follow? I hope so.

If they do, half of businesses will come to a halt. Most big corporations rely on executives travelling between USA and Cda. Schools will not have enough students and teachers from March break and all industries including logistic supply and healthcare will not have enough people running them. Stores and medical offices will be shut down.

It’s a big thing because it will likely trigger business recession and school semester delays

New Brunswick Chief Medical Officer has called for a ban on all gatherings of over 150 people, and to restrict all non-essential travel. Government employees banned from even work related travel outside of the province. I expect schools to be shut down here soon, too.
