Anyone getting worried about March Break Travel

Manitoba has a case now. I feel confident with how our province will be handling this outbreak (I think) and so grateful we are testing like we should be in Canada but eek. Here we go.

Oh yea, HR said they will watch for symptoms too. LOL I said "Um, that is how it's getting spread! You can pass it without showing symptoms!" Like, do people NOT read through the media crap and gather actual info?
Yup. Expert on the cbc this morning said we need to “shut it down.” Wish that would happen. Short term pain for limits in the spread.

We are supposed to be in Disney March 19-29. I feel comfortable traveling and being in the parks with my family and will use all of the precautions. However, I'm concerned we will get there and after a day or two of arriving they will make a decision to close the parks. I wish we could know of park closures a week or so ahead of time. It makes the decision to cancel very difficult. I noticed when they closed Shanghai they gave a two-day notice.

We are supposed to leave Saturday. I keep waffling on the decision. We are staying offsite in a condo so we can cook our own food and have bought tickets for one Disney day. We are very torn. One minute I am going, the next I am staying home.

My points for going are, the heat is good for us. We will spend most of our time outdoors which is healthy for us. We won't lose the money. We can just chill by the pools and make our own meals. There are more cases where I live than in Orlando. And if I stay home the kids and I will be eating out, going bowling, going to movies etc. So in a way I feel like we are more at risk here.

And the obvious points for not going. The flight terrifies me.

We can always drive back if needed so I am not worried about being grounded down there.

Thank you for listening. I am so torn. I don't know what to do.

There are more REPORTED cases where you live than REPORTED cases in Orlando. That's a big difference and basically what is causing a lot of concern. The Burlington doctor who came back from Hawaii with it is a case in point. There were only 2 cases REPORTED in Hawaii and none in Burlington.

OK it was an expert but not the Canadian govt yet.
True, but my worry with all this is that the governments seem to be behind the scientists on this. Not by much, but by enough that I fear slowing the spread will not be as successful as we need it to be. We will know in a couple of weeks.

I know that for my family, we have shut down. I homeschool my two youngest, so that’s easy. I have to send my oldest to school, but she only attends part time and is home by 11:10 am each day. She never needs to eat or use the washroom at school. They are all competitive swimmers and I will be keeping them home indefinitely starting today. We are not seeing friends socially. My twins’ drum lessons are being suspended. My husband works from home, but is required in court some days. Obviously, he needs to go to that. So we are operating on a drastically changed routine. My goal is to keep us all well until there is a vaccine. My husband is in an at risk group times four so I do not want him falling ill. His risk for complications is frighteningly high.

This all must be a sign that I should be spending my dollars on home renovations that are badly needed versus vacations. Looks like I am getting new patio doors, exterior doors, deck, one-fourth of a fence...wow, I feel so much more responsible now! LOL

We leave next Thursday for 10 days and are not worried. It is out of our hands, for it seems it will either be Disney, the airlines, government or someone else that will make the call if the brakes will be put on. We plan to have fun and enjoy the parks like we always do. No use getting upset over something we have no control over...

My pregnant sister is a caseworker and visited a man that works at a place in Tampa yesterday. He was sick and she mentioned to me that it made her uncomfortable but he had joked for her not to worry. Well... the first confirmed case of Covid19 was just announced from his work place. It wasn’t the man she visited but still its not fabulous news. She’s not freaking out but understandably she’s concerned.

So leaving tomorrow. The government has not yet (as of 1:00pm) even issued a level 1 health advisory for the United States, so we are still going.
https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/health-safety/travel-health-noticesOur trip does not involve crowds of any sort, so we are fairly comfortable with the risk at this time. Prepared to return early if things turn ugly, but since nothing is refundable for us and there is no advisory to kick any insurance in, we are off.
