I took the plunge on Monday morning.
I was fine not getting it on release day - honestly. Then Yvette and Emiel came to the house with theirs. Damn Dutch people!!
I actually had dreams about it on Saturday night and was horrified on Sunday morning (Easter) when I learned that
Best Buy was CLOSED, as was the Apple Store. I'm pretty sure if Jesus were here, he'd want people to get the iPad. And before you say it's sacrilige, we celebrate the dead coming back to life by eating ham and chocolate, I don't think I'm out of line for wanting an iPad.
I did have to go to Best Buy anyway in advance of the European trip to get external drives, flash drives, camera tapes, etc. I told myself if they had any, I would buy one, if not - I would wait. I was not going to go running around Orlando to find one (at least this was the internal dialouge I was having in a pathetic effort to convince myself that I wasn't obsessed - it's like saying "I'll go into the bar, and if they have any alcohol I'll drink it").
Sure enough, Best Buy had just received a shipment about 20 minutes before I arrived. I'm now convinced that I'm not paranoid in thinking that they have spotters outside my house that call ahead "he's leaving the driveway - STOCK THE STORE".
To say I'm addicted to my iPad is an understatement. eTicket looks FABULOUS on it as do many other of my iPhone apps. I highly recommend the Skeeball app for the iPhone - it's COMPLETELY addictive. It's just like being back on the Jersey shore except without the hookers and the drug dealers.
I've probably spent about $200 in new apps and books - and yes, as a book reader it's an absolute Kindle killer. I love my Kindle but I haven't touched it since Monday.
The battery life is impressive - I'm getting a real 10 hours of useage out of it throughout the day. And I guess I'm the only person NOT having WiFi issues. My signal remains fairly strong througout the house - then again, I have two independent WiFi connections to ensure that every square inch of the house is saturated. I must be entertained at all times.
Seriously, the real question that still remains for me is will this be something I can use productively. If all I do is read books and play skeeball on the thing, I've just pissed away $700 (yes, I got the 64gb). The keyboard is a definate step up from the iPhone, but it's no replacement for my MacBook Pro. There are some interesting productivity apps, but apparently - until I'm grand master skee-ball champion, I won't use any of them.
We'll see if I still love it when I get back from Europe!
