Anyone getting an iPad?

Btw, I recommend ISOcards for the iPad. Free card app that let's you play anygames you want. Plus putting a hand over your cards let's you peak at them. Best of all, it's free!

I'm wondering if this is a PEBKAC error. I wrote a paper and have done a few keynote presentations and have had no issues at all. Sync worked fine, no corruption, etc.

I doubt it. It's not like it was a Joe Shmoe user, it's a blogger for TUAW. So I doubt it's a PEBKAC or IDtenT error. It did it with a couple keynote presentations. And there were several comments regarding issues with Pages. Perhaps it depends on the version they were originally created in?

Ok guys I need advice. Do I buy the ipad or kindle? I obviously want it for reading books, but I could also see us using the ipad for video and games (especially my kids). They fight over our Ipod touch. (Sadly, at&t service stinks here, so no Iphone for me). Will the ipad hurt my eyes reading an entire book? Also, with the backlit display will I be able to read outside? I just can't decide...

Mom_2_two: if your primary function is going to be reading, the kindle is probably still your best bet. Indoors you'd need a book light in the dark, but outdoors it'll show up better. So there's a tradeoff there. One thing that's worth considering is that you could get a kindle now, and if you get an iPad later, you'll be able to access all the books you've already bought on the kindle.

On the other hand, the iPad really is glorious for web browsing, so if you're going to be doing more than reading, it bears considering. it's hard to describe, but it's greater than the sum of its parts... As if you had access to the entire web as a magazine, leisurely turning the pages.

These are all version 1.0. I'm sure the iWork apps will all be updated to address such glitches.

I took the plunge on Monday morning.

I was fine not getting it on release day - honestly. Then Yvette and Emiel came to the house with theirs. Damn Dutch people!!

I actually had dreams about it on Saturday night and was horrified on Sunday morning (Easter) when I learned that Best Buy was CLOSED, as was the Apple Store. I'm pretty sure if Jesus were here, he'd want people to get the iPad. And before you say it's sacrilige, we celebrate the dead coming back to life by eating ham and chocolate, I don't think I'm out of line for wanting an iPad.

I did have to go to Best Buy anyway in advance of the European trip to get external drives, flash drives, camera tapes, etc. I told myself if they had any, I would buy one, if not - I would wait. I was not going to go running around Orlando to find one (at least this was the internal dialouge I was having in a pathetic effort to convince myself that I wasn't obsessed - it's like saying "I'll go into the bar, and if they have any alcohol I'll drink it").

Sure enough, Best Buy had just received a shipment about 20 minutes before I arrived. I'm now convinced that I'm not paranoid in thinking that they have spotters outside my house that call ahead "he's leaving the driveway - STOCK THE STORE".

To say I'm addicted to my iPad is an understatement. eTicket looks FABULOUS on it as do many other of my iPhone apps. I highly recommend the Skeeball app for the iPhone - it's COMPLETELY addictive. It's just like being back on the Jersey shore except without the hookers and the drug dealers.

I've probably spent about $200 in new apps and books - and yes, as a book reader it's an absolute Kindle killer. I love my Kindle but I haven't touched it since Monday.

The battery life is impressive - I'm getting a real 10 hours of useage out of it throughout the day. And I guess I'm the only person NOT having WiFi issues. My signal remains fairly strong througout the house - then again, I have two independent WiFi connections to ensure that every square inch of the house is saturated. I must be entertained at all times.

Seriously, the real question that still remains for me is will this be something I can use productively. If all I do is read books and play skeeball on the thing, I've just pissed away $700 (yes, I got the 64gb). The keyboard is a definate step up from the iPhone, but it's no replacement for my MacBook Pro. There are some interesting productivity apps, but apparently - until I'm grand master skee-ball champion, I won't use any of them.

We'll see if I still love it when I get back from Europe!

Pete, I have to tell you that your post on Facebook about your new iPad made my husband want one! He saw the Sketch Pad app that you were using and decided he needed that. He is a math tutor and goes through dry erase markers and graph paper like nobody's business. So now he is all digital! Ok, so we were kinda on the edge anyway, but now we can justify it as a business expense  We love our new iPad!!

Oh, and I haven't tried skeeball, but I'm somewhat addicted to We Rule, a little kingdom-building game that's free. If anyone wants to connect in the game to expand our kingdoms, my name in there is gkrykewy too!

I added you, have no clue how this thing really work tho...your kingdom is very impressive, mine is very unstructured

So... I'm an IPAD widow ;) We have a 3g on order due to deliver the end of April. So, my husband points out "Hey there's an IPAD in the mall" SO stupid me says sure lets go to the Apple store. Stupit, stupit, stupit! It took me 36.7 seconds to say I want my own. Dang, $600 later (I had to have the 32 gig), oy vey. I've touched it once in 3 days. I can't get near the darn thing.

Thanks! I'll log in and check it out. I'm an urban planner by trade, so I can't help but take these sorts of things somewhat seriously :lmao:

Don't sell yourself short! You've already reached my level in the game, quite quickly. you'll probably pass me soon.

can't use them in Israel yet, so i guess i'll have to wait for the international version to come out..

the iPad sold in the states is on the wrong wifi frequency for Israel...

i guess they'll correct that in the international version...

Still haven't played with one yet. The last time I was in an Apple store was the day they came out, so there were lines of people three-deep waiting to try it out. My husband did try one the other day and said he totally wants to get one now. Perhaps we'll wait until version 2 comes out, as I'm concerned about glitches.

iPad is fun to use for doodling, and works well even without a stylus. Just something I made in about a half hour in the free adobe ideas app, which I thought might be especially appropriate for this thread...

Great doodle! I was reading that some universities aren't allowing them on their network due to security and traffic concerns.

Thanks! Yeah, there's apparently a glitch where the iPad is not giving up temporary IP addresses once they're assigned, causing some large group networks to run out of addresses. Something like that. I'm sure it'll be fixed with the first software update.

Yea, I'm sure it will be fixed in a software update. I find it funny that some schools aren't allowing them on their network yet a local college is giving their students iPads for free this fall.

There's a cyber school based out of where I work. The IT guy that supports them told me they're looking at getting about 10 iPads. I thought they were getting them to evaluate giving them to their students. But he told me they're toys for the employees. We don't think the cyber school will last much longer so maybe they're trying to use up their budget to buy toys for their employees. He's going to try to snag one for me. Interestingly, he contacted CDW about ordering them but was informed they can't sell them to him b/c it's an educational purchase. They have to go directly through Apple.

Two weeks in, and i still love my iPad. I believe I could travel with this and my mifi for a week, and not miss my laptop. I'm anxious to try out a couple of the file sharing apps.
My only complaints are that I cannot multi-task, but it looks like that is coming soon; keynote does not recognize some of my ppt slides; and numbers is not setup to handle high volume number crunching and Data analysis like excel is. iWork.com is ok, but a little cluggey. Has anyone used a gotomypc type app?
Outside of that, this device is great for web surfing, staying on top of e-mail, and catching up on Lost. If you have not checked out the ABC app, you should do so.

I've started seeing where a device like the iPad could be handy. Today I was reading through a blog about my new bank account and wish I had a light device like an iPad to view it on. Instead I was holding my laptop screen up like it was a tablet.

Just downloaded the goodreader app. I'll be testing it this week with google docs. My first impression with dowloading PDFs from a website (i.e. Point charts from DVCmember.com) is that the app is pretty cool.
Both of my posts tonight were made via my iPad.
