Anyone get stomach flu at DL this past week?

I was at DL earlier in the week and had to cut our trip a bit short because I got a gnarly case of the stomach flu. Hadn't been that sick in over 20 years. Strangely my spouse didn't get sick at all. We stayed on-site and ate all our meals in the park, so I was wondering maybe if there was something going around.

Of course I could have just been very unlucky.

Nope. Spent 13 hours in the parks Dec 20 with my kids. We are all fine.

Sorry you caught something. 😔

We just returned from a 5-day which turned into a 6-day trip after the airports got shut down. There were five of us. None got stomach flu but three of us now have Covid. We always avoided the school break times for our past trips but decided to try it this year. It was PACKED to the point of being unbearable. I'm sure we were exposed to many things in that mob of people. I thought the new "reservation" system was supposed to help manage crowds but apparently not.

It's possible what you had was some kind of food poisoning/bacterial infection. There are certainly plenty of viruses circulating, though.

The reservation system is only used to maximize $$$$. It is not for the benefit of the consumer.

If it was Norovirus you can get it from breathing air flushed in the restrooms. Highly contagious and super 🤢. Alcohol sanitizer won’t kill it either.

Did you fly? I find that taking flights is the most risky for getting sick 5-7 days after the flight (exposure).

One of the worst flus BFF & I ever had hit us both the day after we got home from a 6 day stay at DL about 7-8 years ago. We drove so no airport/airplane exposure. We had to have been exposed either in the parks or at the Grand for us both to start feeling ill on the same day within 6 hours of each other.

I will say that there have been times where I've seen apparently sick adults and children walking around and the Good Lord only knows what may be lurking on the handrails and 'common touch areas'. I know Disney trips are expensive, but I do kind of resent the attitude of 'yes, I'm/my child's sick and probably infectious but I paid a lot of money for this!'.

The experience did make me start getting flu shots every year. Haven't had the flu since!

I got sick once during our DL trip about 14 years ago in December (I was about 6-7 days into the trip - after flying). I hadn't been sick with a cold or flu or anything for at least a decade up until that point. I definitely didn't venture out to the parks (or anywhere) once I started feeling sick though. Was feeling so crappy.

I'm sorry your trip wasn't 'the best'. But you were a responsible Disney fan and stayed away from others, even at the expense of your trip. I hope you've had plenty of wonderful trips since then!

It's such a bummer when we get sick on holiday. I got food poisoning when staying at Crater Lake Lodge years ago. Couldn't have left the room if I'd wanted to!!!

“Stuff” is going around “everywhere”….. Hard to pinpoint where you pick it up. It’s just a chance one goes when going out in public.

I'm there now, and the crowds are unreasonable.

This has always been the worst week of the year. You couldn't pay me to go at this time.

Last year was a unicorn. I guess the pandemic carryover of the limited available reservations kept the parks manageable. We went a couple days between Christmas and NYE and it was slow.

I'm glad we are blocked out this year. The current wait times are, indeed, unreasonable.

Our 15 yo son got hit with it on the Wednesday last week (before Christmas). It shortened our stay by a meal and a morning at DCA. No one else got it, it screamed of norovirus or some other enteric virus. He was fine by the afternoon and did fine on the drive home. We were waiting on the rest of us to fall victim, but thankfully missed out on the fun. Trip wise, we found the crowds to be manageable in the early part of the day (Monday and Tuesday) and had a fantastic trip until 5am Wednesday when the GI gods were angered….must have been all of that celebrating…

We used a ton of wipes on rides and handrails. Washed hands a lot. Wore masks. Didn’t eat at park unless outside. Neither of us got sick. You gotta do what works for you And your comfort level in this day and age.

This is so true. I'd have worn a mask too, because it's so crowded. It's pretty common in Asian countries to wear masks during 'sickness seasons' and I think that's pretty smart. Mask wearing there pre-dates Covid by years.

Absolutely. Seems like they were on to something long before we were…SMART!

Well, to be more accurate, SICK people in Asian countries/cultures wear masks when they are sick because they are still expected to go out and work, to family gatherings, etc. When you saw a lot of Asian people wearing masks pre covid, it was because they themselves were having symptoms of something and it's a courtesy to not expose others to your cough, sneeze, etc.

They’re nothing compared to Universal this week. It is crazy town up there.
