Anyone get FD and AAA???

I had my AAA office check for a price quote with free dining this morning and
the quote they gave me was without the 20% room discount. I asked if the room discount was available and she checked with disney as she was on hold with them at the time, and Disney said the AAA discount CANNOT be combined with the free dining. So the AAA room discount is a "no go" for free dining.

Is there any downside for booking through AAA? We probably will not have a car so the parking does not matter. I found this list on AAA web site. There is nothing that I really care about. But if we are not losing anything by going through AAA, why not?

Last year there was a few AAA agents who messed up and let their clients have both the AAA discount and free dining. There was quite a few posts about those very select few who got it. I believe Disney is making it very clear this year to their CMs that this is not to happen again.

When I booked my free dining this morning I got a very nice CM, who made a point of telling me at the very beginning of the call, that they had had a meeting this morning to make sure everyone understood that this free dining promotion was not to be combined with any other discount (including AAA) and that although AP holders are now eligible to purchase th DDP (without having to buy a one day ticket) that they, like everyone else, will be required to buy one day tickets and will not be able to use their AP room discounts, if one comes out later. She also made a point of saying that whereas normally you can get the DDP, then upgrade to the DxDDP up until 72 hours before your arrival, that with this particular promotion you can only upgrade from the DDP to the DxDP until June 22nd (when this promotion ends). It was almost like she was reading from her notes, to make sure she didn't forget anything.

More info than the OP asked for I know, but I was just trying to remember everything she said.

I won't use a travel agent because once they book it for you, they own the reservation. Disney will not talk to you about it at all. If you want to double check it for some reason, make any changes, room requests, or add ADRs to it, you must go through AAA. Plus not all AAA agents are all that knowledgeable about Disney.

In fact not all travel agents in general are that knowledgeable about Disney. I was speaking to a local travel agent here in town yesterday and mentioned the upcoming free dining promotion. She had never heard of free dining. When I said it had been offered for the last several years, she looked shocked, said she goes to Disney every year or so, but knew nothing about this promo. This is a well regarded travel agent here in town and I have had people tell me I should use her to book my Disney trips, since I go so much. No thanks! I would prefer to be in charge of my own reservation.
