Anyone Game? It’s my Sep 2013 Blog! I'm home; with a TR link in #1189, 10/14

Good for you! :goodvibes

If you're interested in tracking calories there are several web programs / apps you can use. My current favorite is MyFitnessPal. I've been tracking calories with it and it helps immensely and I feel as though I can make better choices.

The only thing I would caution you about is working out every day. Don't beat yourself up if it doesn't happen. That's a pretty hefty commitment. My initial goal was three times a week, last week, I did four. I'm slowly working my way up, but that is just my personality.

Best of luck!!! :goodvibes

Thanks! I'll check out MyFitnessPal. And yes, target is 50 minutes x 7 days a week. But if I get it done 4 times a week, I'll be happy.

Hooray for you! :cheer2:

Thanks tiggrbaby. :goodvibes

PIO I am so IN I remember very well our DisMeet a few years ago you had me on the cell phone & kept saying turn around, turn around, and there you were :rotfl: I MISS you and can't wait to see you again Now I will go and enjoy the blog :thumbsup2 Ruthie (and I know you can achieve your goals !)

Nice to see you here Ruthie! I'm really looking forward to getting you to turn around, turn around again!

Good luck. I know you can do it. I recently started back at the gym myself (although my workouts are around 30 minutes, so I have to build up to 50). Eating healthy is not my thing, so I am attempting portion control as well. I want to look good for the mouse too but mostly I just want to lose enough weight for my hiatal hernia to go away.

Excellent Kim! Seems like there is something in the air at the moment. A lot of threads I'm following are inspiring me to be good. :thumbsup2

I know it was way back in your blog but I have to say thank you..for the reminder to live in the moment for the reminder to enjoy the moment whatever it brings and for sharing your beautiful photography as always

I am going to print that whole section out and frame it for those occasional days
of the " I can't get through this moments"

:flower3: Love ya

Ruthie

Awww. Glad you liked it.

You're reading from the start? That's dedication! :flower3:

Ir looks delish !! BUT Kecap Manis I see it all over the internet http://www.efooddepot.com/products/abc/2964/abc_kecap_manis_(sweet_soy_sauce)__hypen__21fl_oz.html should I order it and then I can bring it to you ?
Looking at the site I posted I know I will be ordering other items anyway

:rotfl2: Are we all having fun over the kecap manis? I sure hope it lives up to the expectation!!! It's just sweeter (and thicker) than standard soya sauce!

Seriously, don't worry about it for now. There is a 99Ranch Market near Disneyland. I might stop in there when I arrive to pick up a bottle, if Alison hasn't already. It will probably be cheaper than you ordering it through the internet and paying for the shipping.

Thanks for the thought!

1- unless we both lose 50 #s by Oct no need turn around turn around this time
:lmao: I never forgot what you looked like

2- Dedication...no...absolutely hooked on your writing style, your photos, and really wanted to get to know you again Besides I loved seeing the places in Oz, your town hall is impressive beautiful decked out for Christmas and loved the owl on the tower I soo want to do that overnight zoo but the prison not on a bet :scared1:

I really enjoy hearing about your family dinners brings back such memories, being Italian the food & the sitting at the table was the thing to do sadly most of the family is gone

3- So I am all caught up & its been a fun adventure for me

4- I'll be ordering from that site so no arguing its a flat rate ship so you have the soya sauce :thumbsup2

Now I have to hop over to Alison PTR and catch up there...ok no more posting or I will become a ping pong ball LOL Oh can you either post a link for the smilies you use (Love that cake eating one) or send it in your next email Love to the boys :-)

I wish you luck on the weight loss, I'm still working on my last cruise and WDW trip. I have more than half as much as you do to go before I'm even back to my weight at the beginning of the year.

I used to shop at 99 Ranch Market in the Valley back when I was in my sushi making phase. They are a great Asian market! I might just drive over there to check it out because I have no idea what little market on Anaheim Street to walk into here. Most of the signs are not in English in the Asian area, I think I know which ones are Markets, but I'd rather go to the Ranch Market.

They do have a lot of interesting things in the fish section. :rolleyes1

I suspect that we may end up with two or three bottles of kecap manis! :lmao:

I love the 99 Ranch Markets. We used to go to one with my aunt in San Diego for her Asian groceries. I was rather happy to see the one in Anaheim. We went there to have lunch with an Aussie friend of mine who was seconded to California in 2008. It was a veritable community of all things Asian there. We had Dim Sum; but I remember lots of noodle type shops there as well. :thumbsup2

We need to coordinate who's getting what for this cook out. Plenty of time to sort it out between now and September.

Your exercise regiment, seems very adventurous, I try for five days a week and sometimes only get four.

I use a program called LoseIt!, on my phone or on my computer it works, great. It even has a feature where you scan the bar code and it know what you had and adds up calories...

So today I went to a new market. I checked the shelves and found these.

But none of them actually said "Kecap Manis". I took the pictures above in order to show them to you PIO. Probably any one of them would have worked, but then I found this one which actually said "kecap manis".

So now I just need to troll the WFD thread to find recipes you have posted to figure out how to use it! What's funny is that it's made by Heinz, and the bottle is plastic. :thumbsup2

Excellent! You got the ABC one, I take it?

Any of those would have been okay. Kecap Manis literally translates to Sweet Sauce.

I'll have to check my files and post the recipe with the kecap manis. It won't be for a couple of days.

Out of curiosity....how much was it?

I think it was like $3.99. That's a little expensive for soy sauce, but at a specialty store and as a specialty sauce it makes sense. I didn't check the prices of the other ones.

I thought the Healthy Boy Brand was sort of funny. I would imagine that the other brands might be more authentic. I'm always suspicious of giant corporations like Heinz.

I'm sure there will be enough left at least based on my oyster sauce usage, but. Wanna try it now that I have some but I et I'll still have this bottle by the time the trip rolls around.

Open it and taste it. When I fry my rice, I use about 2 parts of the kecap manis and 1 part normal soya sauce. Usually, 2 - 3 generous tablespoons of the two mixed together to 1 cup of rice.

OK I guess we got the soya sauce covered :rotfl2:

:offtopic:

On a different note I posted this on Alison's PTR and didn't think
you'd mind me posting it here too

You are my dear friend PIO and have been an inspiration to me probably
without even realizing it but the things you write and the relationship
you & your DH have made an impact on me (and more people than you
may ever realize) I would also like permission to add your
Jonathan Livingston Seagull story and photographs or BEG you to
do it as it is a great example of how we should live and I truly took
it to my heart

Ruthie - I really am truly happy that you are back on the boards and that we've reconnected here again.

Go for your life! Anything on the Dis is in the public domain. :thumbsup2

I'll add your PTR to the second or third post on this thread so that we have it cross-referenced. :thumbsup2

Things are looking great! If there's anything else I can get, or provide let me know! I still have the rental car so can get the fresh supplies that day!

I'm looking forward to it too. The bittersweet part is that it is one of the last parts of all our fun together. This time. :thumbsup2 I'm sure there will be more.

We probably need to sort out quantities and shopping lists closer to the time.
