Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

Your update gave me chills. I absolutely loved how you told your 'story' through the show. Thank you so much for sharing :goodvibes

As for Cafe Orleans - I need to get back there ASAP! It's been such a very long time, but i'm in love with French Onion Soup and Monte Cristos! I'm not sure if I could decide between the original or the 3 cheese one though. That's a toughie!

A very nice update PiO.

Mickey and the Magical Map show which opened this summer is a nice show at the Fantasyland Theater. It was nice to take pictures and videotape that day from where we sat. Here is my video of Disneyland Mickey and the Magical Map Full Show 9/15/13 that I videotaped with PiO and franandaj.

Thanks for that! I look forward to watching it, now that PiO has piqued my interest! (Not a big "show" person.)

[Have now watched- nice job!]

:)

I could really go for a bowl of that French Onion Soup right now! I had no idea that you were having such an epiphany at that time! I hope that now that you are back at work you are able to come to grips with all your goals and help your co workers ease back into them as well. Somehow, I think not though as from some of your other posts about nobody wanting to do any work....

Love the shot of the Court of Angels.

A very thought provoking update, I hope you were able to come to some decisions during your vacation. I thought the show was excellent too, the technology was really cool.

Love that you all were able to coordinate getting together as much as you did :goodvibes

Hi PIO. I am finally getting some time to read everyone's TR's. There were quite a few pages to go thru. Awesome pictures from DL. Looking forward to the rest of them. The down under meet DIScription was great. I so need to get out to DL. I must do this after I retire so I can go out there, take my time and really have a great time. Magic Map show fantastic too.

I will say that the Monti Cristo looked so delicious. I was not a happy camper when they took it out of the Columbia Harbour House.

DisMeet #4: 5ofUs

It is approximately 550 miles between Melbourne and Sydney. Certainly a LOT closer than the 8,000 or so miles between either city, and Los Angeles.

Logic would dictate that if someone from Sydney and someone from Melbourne would want to meet in 3D, it would be cheaper and simpler to travel the short distance between those two cities.

But logic means a big fat zero when expediency is involved.

Turns out that one of the Aussies at DLR wanted to DisMeet with me afterall!

Before we left Oz, we had completed the necessary communications to set up a vague meet-up at Disneyland. Again, it had been similar arrangements to those with BringingUpDisney. It seems that everyone’s plan for attacking the Anaheim parks are the same - DCA at rope drop to pick up a FP for RSR; hit Toy Story Mania and then back to Carsland.

Well….5ofUs and I were texting each other during the day and it turns out that their day didn’t exactly start out as planned. But we kept the occasional text messages up and it was just before the show that we figured out that meeting outside the Fantasyland Theatre at the end of the show would be our DisMeet opportunity.

Yup. No one can deny that us Aussies are intrepid travellers. It really is a Small World afterall!

We managed to spend about 15 minutes chatting before we needed to get back to our respective families.

5ofUs – Thanks for making the effort and I had a great time meeting you in 3D. I hope that we will travel the 550 miles next time to meet up….instead of the 8,000.

Wait! What. AM. I thinking????

See you at Disneyland!

It was great meeting you too! Great pics, although it's upsetting that I look as tired as I actually was! :rotfl2:

I'm happy to meet you in either Melbourne OR Disney. Hopefully next time we'll have longer than a few minutes to spare :):thumbsup2

The photos from the show are wonderful. Now I want to see this show myself. Until I can get there, I have to make do with the video. Your thoughts during the show really resonated with me. I am in a similar position work-wise by the looks of things.

I loved the food porn. I really have to go back to Cafe Orleans and try the Pommes Frites, I had the Three Cheese Monte Christo last time round and loved it.

...it comes to takings pics!!:cool1:

What a *lovely* update! I hope things in your day-to-day world are starting to come together, and life is being a bit more kind.

That stage show looks amazing! I'm not normally one for that sort of thing but that one looks interesting.

And how funny that you got a meet with another Aussie, here in the States!! Small world indeed. :goodvibes

.

23 pages ....23 pages I repeat 23 pages !!!

I will now go stand in the corner in the hall of shame of friendships  I am mortified that I am just now here.....:faint:

I can't believe you're still on day 1! What a packed itinerary!

Sounds like the new show is worth seeing, and you were so close to the stage! Glad you had your 'moment' :goodvibes Sounds like some change would be a good idea :thumbsup2 We spend so long at work, it really needs to be something we can at least tolerate.

I say this to all people who say that HKDL is a 'one day' park (or even a 'half day' park). I have spent 6 full days there and have yet to experience their version of IASW  Having said that, it wasn't high on my priority list either time. But I will just have to make time for it on my next visit :thumbsup2

I can't say I'm really an IASW aficionado though... I didn't really prefer one over the other.

And you are correct, I have yet to visit WDW. TBH, it's not high on my priority list, especially with FP+. It's a bit overwhelming to have to think about what I will feel like eating, or what attraction I will want to hit 6 months in advance :rolleyes2

I think you need to schedule a trip to HK again. :thumbsup2

Planning for WDW is not as overwhelming as it seems.

lovely update...

The show was beautiful, I have only been to DL once and I was kid when I was there, some 25 years ago... A lot has changed since then.

I need to get out there.

Food porn at it finest!

Brandi - If you haven't been to DLR in 25 years, you definitely need to plan a trip there. :thumbsup2

Great update! I am not surprised you had your epiphany during that show. It sounds amazing. I have not had the pleasure but I know times when the parades and shows have taken my breathe away and I just want to freeze time. All my pain melts away and I feel more alive and happy than I can say.

That Cafe Orleans yum! The food looks very good indeed. Why do I always read these at lunch time lol. It's like they say never go to the supermarket before lunch when you are hungry you buy more than you need! I'm looking around my kitchen thinking there is nothing as sexy as that going on here!

It is interesting the differences between the rides and attractions at the different parks. My favourite Space Mountain is Paris also. It's a much smoother ride. But Paris parades just don't have it. Sadly the French don't give the Disney magical feeling as well I don't think. I prefer my CM to hand me my lunch not throw it at me lol..

I need to try the one at Paris. The one at HK is so smooth as well. DL's isn't too bad but the one at WDW is pretty jerky.

A very nice update PiO.

That was neat that you got to have a DISMeet with another DISer that day.

The food at Cafe Orleans is great as always. But as you said that the Monte Cristo sandwich can easily fill you up and you can't finish it unless you have a big appetite.

Thanks for posting the video link, Bret. Really appreciate it. :thumbsup2

I was really pleased to be sharing the Monte Christo and the Cheese Christo with Bret and my DS. It meant that I didn't need to choose between the two. Now.....if only I could have fitted in the French Onion Soup as well. :sad2:

Thanks for that! I look forward to watching it, now that PiO has piqued my interest! (Not a big "show" person.)

Glad you're sticking around, Jud. Do you normally head to WDW instead of DLR?

Love the shot of the Court of Angels.

Sitting and watching the show was the first time I'd had some time to be quiet this trip.

I did work out what I wanted over the next couple of weeks on holiday. First thing I did was have a conversation with work and told them how I felt and gave them the options that were acceptable to me. We are working through next steps now and it will all be resolved one way or another by Christmas. :thumbsup2

In the meantime, work continues.

Pam - when I was planning this trip, I did wonder how all the DisMeets would work out in between all the rides and attractions I wanted to go on. It worked out really well and I'm glad that we made the effort to get together.

Don't.

That's EXACTLY how I feel.

:lmao:

They have Monte Christos.....

Aussies like to travel a lot; so we tend to run into them mostly everywhere we go. We've even run into friends in Europe that we haven't seen for a while and hadn't realised we were planning similar trips for the same time. :rotfl:

And yes, I'm being a little kinder on life. Thanks for asking. :thumbsup2

(No worries! The TR is only about 2 weeks old.)

Glad you're sticking around, Jud. Do you normally head to WDW instead of DLR?

Never been good at money, so I just moved to Florida. 99 minutes from Epcot parking lot. Did do two days at DL once back when there was a big parking lot... (350+ days in-parks at WDW.)

Vague dream of DLP, just cause from all I've seen, it looks like they really did some beautiful versions of things there!

:)

Oh good grief! Now you tell me.

You could have at least joined us on the Monday night with the rest of the Where in the World crowd! I would have made you sing with us on Its a Small World as well.

Fun with the Firework Gods

Who doesn’t love a fireworks display? Especially when it is seen from the vantage point somewhere within a Disney park with a castle in the back?
From around the 7th Century when fireworks were first reported to have been displayed in China to now….the Disney Corporation has been listed as the largest consumer of fireworks in the US……nothing seems to delight people as much as seeing those colourful trails in the night sky. Unless, of course, you are a resident of Orange County and have tired of the bang crash opera that goes on 3 times a week.

We had been gifted with VIP seating for the fireworks tonight. Thanks to franandaj’s contact for arranging this for us! My family is really grateful to him.

The main benefit of VIP seating, aside from seats, is the gift of time. With an assured decent view and space, we did not have to worry about guarding a spot in advance for the fireworks. So, we took our time over dinner and ambled to our spot.

We allowed sufficient time for us all to make it up the stairs and to set up the tripods. There were seats for us to sit on and we set up at the back so that we would be in no one’s way. At least tonight, we would not need to worry about people tripping on the tripod legs.

And then it was time for the fireworks fun!

One of the other people there asked me if I wanted him to move the flagpole. We both had a little laugh at it; but really….with the giant Mickey pumpkin, it all added to the ambience of being here for this night. It might not have been the position I would have chosen for shooting fireworks at Disneyland; but I wouldn’t have changed anything for the world. It was a lot of fun setting up with my DH and Bret; and having Alison and Fran there to chat to. I know DS really enjoyed having a seat to enjoy the show.

And it was just as well that we were close to the main entrance. After the show, DS said he was tired and wanted to head back to the room to rest. But we still had one more show on our list; so with one of those looks, DH took DS back to the hotel. We would be able to call and text each other later.
