Whats the cheapest u have found ur flight for? Any surrounding areas are fine, or any time close to Sept. :) Im trying to figure out if the quote I keep getting is any good. Thanks!

It's all still WAAAAYYYY up there. From what I can gather the rates should drop about 3-5 months before. I like to follow this site http://www.farecompare.com/ The rates the other day were lower thru April and now I see that they are lowered thru May.

But I think we are just going to wait for Southwest and fly out of Orange County because it is literally 5 mintutes away. Even with layovers on each way and almost no chance of dings, it is going to work better for us, but only if I can grab the cheapie fares when they first come out.

Although I did notice that in there was some EXCELLENT fares out of San Diego, I can't recall if they are for this year or past trends. It's kinda funny, flights are $30 cheaper for you to fly from San Diego with a layover at LAX rather then just flying straight from LAX, for the same flights, :rotfl2: .

Good luck! Let us know if you catch a killer deal.

Yeah It's really weird to me that they do that about SAN. So far the cheapest I've found was $308 out of Lax through Trans air, but Im wishing they would go down a little more since I need 4 tickets. :scared:

Im scared that if I wait, which I might HAVE to do, that theyre just gonna go up. :confused3 This is my second time flying, and the last time, I bought the tickets the day before I left, for my honeymoon. LOL. So Im not sure whats the right way to go. :confused3

Thanks for ur reply! :thumbsup2

My gut says to wait, at least till the major carriers come down to the $200 ish range. And we are going to be buying 5 or 6 tickets  , if we go Southwest then MIL will use a rapid rewards ticket, and since it's such a long flight it's easier if we buy one for the baby too.

I see we are both going out on Sept 4th, too funny. We may well run into each other at a airport somewhere.

Living in Riverside, California, you could watch for fares from the following airports:

ONT - Ontario
PSP - Palm Springs
LAX - Los Angeles International
LGB - Long Beach Municipal
SNA - John Wayne Orange County
BUR - Bob Hope Burbank
CLD - Carlsbad-Palomar
SAN - San Diego International

If you were flying at Christmas break, spring break, or other popular vacation times, I would recommend jumping on a decent fare as soon as possible. However, September is a slow month for tourism in Orlando (and most other places), so airline routes that primarily serve tourists are likely to offer good airfares as airlines struggle to fill seats.

That said, it's sometimes better to grab a relatively good fare when you see one -- especially if that fare involves a convenient airport and flight times -- than to try to save another $50, only to see the price go up $500 as flights fill up.

What do you think June fares should be out of Detroit? I am waiting for SW but a direct flight might be worth extra cost...

Wait until Southwest releases fares for June. (The rumor is it will happen next week.)

Then wait about 24 hours for other airlines to match fares.

Then, if the prices look reasonable, pick the airline and the flights that best meet your needs. In my opinion, it's worth paying more for a nonstop, and it's worth paying more to avoid less desirable flight times.

This sounds about right. I've flown LAX-MCO once or twice a year since 2001. The best I've done on the major carriers is $196, although most commonly around $220-$240. I did spend $300+ on one occasion, but that was over a holiday weekend and considered decent since fares can run $400+ for this route as inventory dwindles. I haven't tried SW as I prefer to go non-stop, unless I'm trying to add miles/segments on purpose to attain elite status.

And as some other posters have noted, sometimes you'll find lower fares from other airports, even if they connect through LAX. On another thread, someone posted that they once got a $117 fare from Santa Maria to MCO (I assume connecting through LAX). You should definitely keep an eye out on fares from ONT, SNA, LGB, etc.

Actually, I was the one who posted that I had a $117 fare, but it was from LAX to MCO non-stop on AA in Oct, 2005. I booked that in late August. The prior year we found the best fares from the Bay Area to MCO for Nov. popped up in August, at the same time as SW released its fares. We were able to fly United nonstop for the same fare as SW.

The one time I flew from Santa Maria, the fare was about $300 but we were trying to coordinate 3 different travel routes for 4 people and we needed to jump on any reasonable fare.
