there is a mandatory curfew at sundown tonight in Osceola and Orange Counties, yet Downtown Disney announced it will close at 11:00pm?

Probably has something to do with potential looting.

I thought the same thing but remember, WDW is it's own government entity (Reedy Creek Improvement District).

Yes, but how are people going to drive back to their hotel in Kissimmee once they leave Downtown Disney?

I was under the belief that the curfew was voluntary. As long as you have a purpose, like "I am returning to my hotel from a night at Disney," you should be fine.

Voluntary curfew? My wife works for the Sheriffs department here on the west coast, and her answer is, Say what???? Must be another one of those "bennies" Orange county gave Disney. LoL

My guess is that guests staying on Disney property are probably not subject to the curfew, but guests in off-property hotels are. So if you're staying in Pop Century you're fine, but if you're staying at the Days Inn, you better be back by sundown.

Here in Halifax, NS, when we had Hurrican Juan last year there was a voluntary curfew. So such a thing does exist.

We have a voluntary evacuation at times, but never one for a curfew here at least not in my part of the state. While we were under it just after Charley, they said they would make arrests. Stores were shut down, even Walgreens Pharmacy had to shut by 6pm to allow its employees to get home before curfew.
Our curfew wasn't mainly for looting, but for safety. There were downed power lines, no electric for street lights & traffic lights. Stop signs & street signs had blown down. There was debris from homes & business's, downed trees & limbs scattered over the roads... not a situation you would want to find yourself driving in. Just the other night (curfew has been lifted), my son drove down a side road that has no street lights & there was so much debris piled near the curbside that is spilled out into the road & something ended up scratching the entire side of the car. By the time he saw the pile had some parts of it extending out further it was too late.

If Disney were to impose a curfew, they would loose business & that is the last thing they would want to do, they had already lost some from having the parks closed. Gee...they could list that as one of the perks for staying onsite :jester: .... while staying at one of the WDW Resorts, not only do you get use of the transportation system, but no need to listen to the local PD on curfew during a state of emergency... just joking...no offence intended.. I am a fan of Disney, but I do see that it is a business. while it is a "happy magical place" the real world is just outside of their property.

I'm sure the open to 11pm is for the resort guests that are not subject to the curfew as long as they stay on Disney's private property. In our county, the curfew is designed to keep people off the public roads and thus protect their safety (from tree limbs, powerlines) as well as not allowing looters to travel from place to place. It does not say that one cannot drive around their own property. Disney's property is huge, but it's still their property and as such can allow for their guests access after the curfew starts as long as they don't leave the confines. HOWEVER, guests of outside resorts and residents will be subject to said curfew.
