Anyone know this hotel -- located at 8727 Colesville Rd, in Silver Spring?

We have a free weekend there because my DW is a gonzo fundraiser for the March of Dimes. Is it in a decent neighborhood? Is it safe to walk from there to the Metro station at 8400 Colesville at night?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jim, it has been many years but I used to take this metro to work. It is a very diverse neighborhood. I would not be out at night in Silver Spring. During the day will be okay. Do you plan to visit DC? Can you stay anywhere in Montgomery county like Gaithersburg or Germantown? They have Metro stops there as well if you want to get to DC.

Thanks. No, we don't have any choice - the award was hotel-specific. I'll look at the reviews TomD posted, but we may just pass.

I lived in Gaithersburg for 5 years and traveled into DC to work right near that metro station at Holy Cross Hospital. There is so much activity in that area, and people are walking all over the place all of the time. Many in DC don't have cars and only use the metro. I wouldn't have a problem with it. You always have to be careful going to and from the metro. Once you are on the metro, I always felt safe. We traveled in and out of DC for concerts and sporting events at night all of the time. It is a beautiful area. Don't let people scare you.

HAve Fun!

Hey, Jim:

Silver Spring isn't the most luxurious or historic part of the DC area, but it's interesting, has its pretty spots, and it's perfectly safe to Metro in and around...I know lots of people who do it at all hours of the day/night...

If you come, give me a shout...I can't treat you to a Mickey bar here in the DC area...but we could find something "DC-ish" to share...and if the timing works out, I'd love to "play tour guide" ...

Who knows, maybe if the time is really right, we could even get Stacy to pop down for a day and we could have a "reunion!"

(For other readers: no mystery here...just a bit of history...Jim helped Stacy & I out a whole lot when we got scammed a couple of years back...we've never met, but feel like we're good friends...)

I'm on the opposite side of DC from Silver Spring, but it's easy to get to & from either via Metro or in a car...I work on Capitol Hill, which is a pretty good half-way spot between Silver Spring and where I live...and Cap Hill/the mall area is just chock-full of interesting things to do/see...it's not DisneyWorld...but it can be fun!

When's your trip? DO come...we'd LOVE-LOVE-LOVE to see you!

In fact, there are a number of DISers in this area...we could have a DISmeet on the Capitol steps!!!
