Anyone familiar with Pensacola (PNAS)

DD's fiance will be stationed at PNAS starting in June. He starts training as an Air Force strike navigator.

Any military families here stationed at this base?

They are hoping to get married later this summer, but finding a date is difficult with fiance's training schedule.

I'm a Pensacola native, who still lives here...I'm very familiar with the base...so I might be able to answer any question you may have.

Our best friend - best man at the wedding - went through PNAS as a nav. Do you have any specific questions? I can email him.

I do remember it took him FOREVER to get through the program. Almost three years (including going to Seymour Johnson for the end of it.) It wasn't his fault - it just seemed very unstructured compared to the Air Force training my husband did. He seemed to do a lot of getting ahead of the class -- then sitting and waiting for weeks for everyone else to catch up.

Oh, and DH and I got married before he started training just because it was so hard to find a date after that! I knew guys who got married on Thanksgiving because t was the only break long enough.

My father was stationed at Eglin AFB when I was child. I loved it. Eglin & Pensacola are generally considered primo assignments within the Air Force. Enjoy it while it lasts.

To be fair, it included at least a year at SJAFB for Strike Eagle specific training, and the couple months of survival training they all get. But he was at PNAS for about 18 months - 2 years.

All the navs I know that went through the AF schools went through much faster. It was just something about the Navy...

Oh, but speaking of surivival training - that's done up here at our base. If he needs any advice for that when the time comes, just ask!
