Ok...I tripped Friday. My foot abnormally flexed forward and I heard this POP!! It hurt so bad, I just fell on the ground. I iced and elevated it, hoping it would be ok. It wasn't ok, I ended up in the urgent care on Sat.. It was XRAYed and was told that it didn't look broken, but to come back if it still hurts. It still hurts and I can't bear weight on it. I am frustrated. How long do these things take to heal? I have tried staying off of it and keeping it elevated. The ice pack and heating pad hurts from the weight on my foot.
Its a midfoot sprain. She told me there is a possibility of it being a hairline fratcure due to it being so swollen. I am starting a new schedule this week, 12 hour shifts. I am a supervisor at a hospital (psychiatric hospital), and am running around all shift. Its not like I get to sit at a desk; maybe an hour to do staffing and work on schedule. The rest of the shift is walking all over the hospital.

I know I know, I am a nurse I should know these things. Hey, I don't and am asking you guys for some REAL advise. I am horribly noncompliant with most things...hey its part of being a nurse, we are often very bad about those things.

Please, someone help me.

Well, if you sprained it badly enough it will still hurt. The not being able to bear weight on your foot is more concerning. Since the bones in the foot are so small, it is still possible that there is a fracture someplace and often those don't start showing up on x-rays until they start to heal and you can see the calcification.

Do you have any bruising, specifically on the BOTTOM of your foot? If so, how distinct is it. If it almost looks like someone drew the bruise on your foot, 99% chance there is a fracture. If there is an all over bruise, still could be fractured but more likely sprained. It would help if I could see it though.

If it is going to interfere with your job, I would see if you can get in with an orthopedic doctor and see if the can do an MRI or even just another x-ray now that it has been a couple days.

There is brusing on the outer part of my foot from the heel to the toes. It is bruised from the side of my foot to the middle of the foot. It purple, gray and a nice shade of yellow. I have it ace wrapped and it helps with stabilizing it. I can walk on the inner aspect of my heel, I just drag the foot behind me. I feel like Quisimoto?SP? It doesn't hurt on the bottom and there is no bruising that I can see. Like I said it is on the lateral aspect of my foot to the mid aspect. No bruising or soreness on the medial aspect, like under the big toe down to the ankel. I hate taking pain meds, no matter what it is they make me a little sick in my stomach. I have crutches, but it is still hard for me to get around using them. I have a boot that my sister had when she broke her foot, but the 2 straps that tighten it to your foot go across the most painfull part of the foot.

It is ok, if its stabilized and i don't have to flex it in any way. Once I flex the foot it hurts. Sorry if this is confusing.

I did the same thing about a year a half ago. My foot hurt for months- I could walk on it but it still hurt. I still can't put weight on it first thing in the morning, especially when its cold.

GREAT!!!!! UGH!!!!!

Beautiful kitty...her eyes are amazing.

OK, I did almost the exact same thing. It turns out that it was a sprain AND a hairline fracture of one of the metatarsil bones. Apparantly it's very difficult to see hairline fractures of those particular bones from most angles on an x-ray.

The "pop" was probably the cartilege of that bone.

I'm sorry you're going through it, I know how badly it hurts.

Did the same thing, tore something in the arch of the foot. Try not to put any weight on it for as long as possible. My job involves lots of ladder work and putting my foot on the rungs hurt for quite a few weeks. From experience, sprains and ligament damage seem to take lot longer to sort themselves out than breaks.
