Anyone experience any GI issues after dining at Disney?

I'm with Ron. Never, ever had any food-related illness in all the years we've been dining at WDW.

YES! Boatwright's in '05...it was the steak and eggs. I nearly double-messed myself waiting for the bus back to POFQ if you know what I mean! lol

We just returned last night and we had excellent meals and service everywhere we went.........
A major problem for alot of people eating at all these restaurants is that it is not on our regular diet that we are used to at home. SOOOOOO yes people can splurge and eat things and over eat things......and have a few issues.......I found out that the Mexican food I had Thursday night was not such a good idea to have before we flew out of Orlando on Friday AM....if you are eating out of the ordinary foods......issues can happen.......
We had three buffets while we were gone and all the food was cooked to perfection.....monitored for heat control... Serving utensils were changed every half hour that we were sitting in Crystal palace.....

DD got very sick on our trip last year. We aren't sure what caused it, or if it was a 'chain reaction'. On the trip down, she ate a huge beef stick, which I think started it. Then the next morning, she had a frozen Coke from the Pop food court. There was something wrong with it- I tried it and it tasted very syrupy- after she had drank a bunch of it. So then we head out to Animal Kingdom. After a while there, we could tell something was wrong. She burped, and her breath was atrocious. We came back to the resort, and she puked in the food court. She puked again later at 11:00pm in our bed. The next day we stayed around the hotel, and she seemed better. We were so happy that the manager of Chef Mickey's allowed us to reschedule our ADR later that week. It really messed up our trip- we went to the park the next two days, and then took Friday off (of course, I don't "blame" her). So our trip from Sat-Sat, we only spent 2.25 days in the parks. DH forgetting his wallet and the torrential rains on I-10 the way down there didn't help much. We still had fun on the trip, but I would definitely say it was the 'worst' trip we've ever had.

The next few months after that, she would complain about her stomach at least once a week. She would say "I've got that Kali River Rapids taste in my mouth". She called it that because she had gotten that bad taste in her mouth while waiting to ride that. We ended up taking her to the dr because of how much she was complaining about her stomach and heart burn. He never found anything wrong, and it seems to have worn off. She hasn't mentioned it in months.

Lesson learned: no beef sticks and no frozen Cokes. Or, at least not a huge beef stick or a huge frozen Coke. Both here and at Disney World.

Chicken Puke Pie at the Prime Time Cafe, I was sick as a dog for days, it hampered my enjoyment big time, ruined the Luau (I had some dry bread) and Boma (had a tiny bowl of soup)

Never again with the Chicken Puke Pie :sad2:

Cass funny you mentioned this pie. My husband, told me it was not the best pie he ever had, he usually cleans all of his plates. But, he ate about more than half, and couldnt eat anymore, said it tasted wierd. Needless to say, the next day he was feeling alot under the weather. That was in 2005. Anyhow, i went back to 50's in 2006, and between the lackluste meal, and service, and wait times. I will never go back! Alot better meals to be had in Disney. But, that is JMHO.

Knock wood, we've never had any issues, but I'm sure Disney is about as scrupulous as possible, given the massive hordes constantly stampeding. I'm sure things sometimes slide by, but my guess would be most often things are a case of overeating, crazy combinations, disruption of sleep/climate & most often -- overexposure to said massive hordes!

It was 2005 for me too! I really put a damper on the last 4 days of my trip, I could barely eat a thing and I visited every rest room in the World :rotfl:

A couple of times. I do not believe it was linked to the food but rather to overindulgence.

I think food and restaurants get a bad rap in most cases where people get sick. What gets blamed is what was last consumed and "returned to sender".
In this case, your already sick insides are getting rid of everything to start healing itself.

People all around are walking, touching, breathing, etc, and spread a stomach virus. If you get sick early in your trip, your virus came from home.

If your sickness is an orange type goo that comes out the back door, then that is grease and fat that your body can not store and it has to get out. this means you have had so much bad food your body can not take it anymore. If you keep it up you really start to get sick because and every thought of food makes you sick. (don't ask how I know that you can actually eat too much fat and grease followed by a trip to the hospital for dehydration).

Well this is one of those "Too much information" times

I sign off and go order some pizza.

I had the mac and cheese at Chef's de France and had some issues. I think it was that it just too rich for me as opposed to anything being wrong with the dish.

The food at San Angel just doesn't agree with my stomach. Never has.

DD9 got Rotovirus at WDW when she was barely three. That was a nightmare. When she was 5 or 6, she got some sort of a stomach bug that knocked her out for a few days. Never really thought to blame it on a particular food or restaurant, since we are always together. Just one of those things...

Here's to everyone's else's tummies behaving!

Thankfully it was our last day but we all got sick (5 of us) after eating at the Lilo and Stitch breakfast at the Poly.

A couple things, like other posters have said, it's not necessarily the food. We used to have tummy troubles & it turned out it was the water. We just aren't used to FL water no matter how often we go.

True food poisoning is not puking a couple times or having a bit of the runs. It is full out, can't leave the toilet, purging from all orifices sick. For days. It is not a puke twice, felt punk for 24 hours & then back at it. It is I want to DIE now sick. In many cases, this means going to the hospital sick. I know, I have been there twice, neither time at WDW. Although I have an acquaitance who was hospitalized after confirmed FP from the shrimp at Chef Mickey's. She spent a week in the hospital in Orlando, then came home & wound up back in the hospital for another 3 days. She wasn't quite right for several weeks.

So, while you may have a meal that doesn't agree with you, or you overindulge or you get a bug or the water doesn't work with your system & it's not pleasant, don't be so quick to label it food poisoning, but rather be glad that it isn't.

Wow.

That just made me sicker than both Capt Jack's and The Land combined. Mad props to YOU!

Yikes!!

Almost deserves a new thread here called:

"Anyone experience any G.I. Issues after reading this post?"

Heh heh.

Thanks tho... I'm off to make dinner too.

Cheers.

I agree that some of this is just a virus and not the food. I had food poisoning once and will never forget it. It started at bed time and did not stop till dawn. I could not leave the bathroom. I bet everyone here though has that one food they use to love but cannot eat because they were sick with the flu. Funny on how even though it is not the food you just never look at it the same again. I am not sure if this is true or just a rumor but I have heard that at some colleges they put a diuretic in the food to make it pass thorough you system quicker to lessen the chance of food poisoning?

Oh boy...now I'm nervous about eating on our upcoming trip! I have a very sensitive stomach and have had ongoing stomach issues for years (chronic nausea). I'd better stock up on my nausea medication before our trip!

I always overpack anyway, but now I'm definitely bringing some Pepto-Bismol and Immodium in the suitcase just in case. DH has been having stomach issues and I bet eating different things in the restaurants will make it worse.

Yes, I had confirmed food poisoning from Capt Jacks back in 2000. They had left sausage (don't know where it came from, as they don't serve sausage, but the manager confirmed it was sausage) in the crab cake blender that went bad.

Unfortunately, it was our last meal of the trip. About six hours later, it hit...on the airplane home. Straight from the airport to the hospital for the ritual stomach pumping. Not a good way to end the trip.:sad2:

Yep yep and yep. DH cannot tolerate water in the Orlando area. We are okay with pop with ice even but too much water and he is in trouble. I routinely pack Immodium AD since we had to buy it on two different trips. And I have had food poisoning and while I am sure some people have gotten it--odds are just high with all those people and all those restaurants--it is not something you can be okay from or even in park touring condition from by the next day. I want to die right now and think I probably am going to very soon, just about sums it up. :sad2:

We were last at WDW in March of this year, and my husband got violently ill after eating at Shutters at CBR. Granted, he is 6 months post-gastric bypass, and it is not totally unusual for him to vomit after a meal that is not home-cooked, but out of our whole 7-day trip, this is the only meal that made him sick, and while we were still at the restaurant, I took my 2 boys to use the restroom, and a teenaged girl was already in the restroom obviously extremely sick to her stomach.
