Anyone ever work for the US Census?

Good luck to all that have taken the test. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

My son got a phone message last Tuesday p.m. saying to call back with a certain job code by Thursday at 3 pm, so he was very excited about being hired, but when he called back Wednesday a.m. he was told that job was already filled, and they didn't give him any information about other possible open positions. He's still hoping for another call...

Anyone from NY hear back....I havent heard anything and I usually score very high on these tests.....:(

I read about this on another post yesterday, checked out the website, took the practice test (missed one, stupid math error :confused3 ), called for a test appointment, and am taking the test on Monday at local Library. Our county area pays min. of $15/hr. Next county over (O.C.) starts at $17.

Thanks to all for posting about this. :goodvibes

I was a bit concerned. When I checked our website the starting pay was $8.75 an hour and top pay was $20 for upper end postitions.

$8.75 is not much of a go out the door price right now unless it will help build my UC weeks. The last time I worked for this was in the 1980's doing store security work. It is almost half of my last part time job though with minimal amount of weeks available.
I hope that is not a final offer, :surfweb:

I tried to get in on this but they said that due high turnout they would not be hiring.

I would not be discouraged by what the Census Pay map says. They said that paid in my area started at $13.00 -- my DH and were offered $18.50.

UPDATE-I just got the call-I've been hired as an enumerator:thumbsup2 at $16.50/hour (website said starting at $15) Training starts week of March 30th for 40/hours. 55 cents a mile. About 25 miles away at a Reserve Base.

Only bummer was my DD9 was very excited I got the job until I told her the week. We were going to go the LB aquarium with her last year's teachers class (I help her out since DD's teacher doesn't need me). She said she understood but she still shed a few tears:sad2: -can we say mommy guilt? I just can't turn down $660/week of training (less taxes) right now.

I hoping she can go with someone else, but it doesn't look good. I guess she'll just have to settle for going to DLR tomorrow as well as on March 27th.

I got a call tonight. They wanted to know if I could give them 40 hours a week. I told them I could but it would have to be weekends and the late shift (4-9) during the week days because of my regular job. She said she would update my application. I asked if they were going to call me back and she said she didnt see why not. I asked my score on the test and she told me I got a 98.

I know I put my available shifts on the original application.......

Anyone else get a call just asking them about hours? I hope they didnt call me thinking I could work days......am I out of luck.....arg.

It was really strange because its Friday night and they called me at 7:30 AND we were at a car dealership working on the warranty on a "new" car for my husband so I was really thrown by this call.

I took the test the middle of February. After 10 days I called to find out my score. I was told they would call me back.

A few days later I was called and offered the job of an Enumerator for $17.50 an hour. I was so excited I forgot to ask my score. I get paid for training
(40 hours the week of March 23), plus to come in and fill out the paperwork, get fingerprinted, give them info so my check can be direct deposited. I also get .55 cents per mile starting when I leave my house. I was told I would be trained to use a hand-held computer. Training is at my local library so I'm only five minutes away:banana: I'm in the suburbs of Chicago. My hubby is laid off so this money will help.

Somebody from Texas (corpus Christi Regional Office) have been hired for ennumerator???

I refused a Crew Leader because the trainning was 160 miles from my town, I have 3 children (2 in school, one toddler) so was impossible, I needed it stay a whole week in Corpus Christi. The lady who call offer me a job as ennumerator and that trainning will be in my town, she told that other person will call me with the details, the Crew Leader training was March 9-16. So after this week I call to verify if the I will be hired or somebody will call, they said that ennumerators will be hired next week. I readed that some ennumerators will have the trainning during next week.

I don't know anybody (friends, relatives, etc) that applied for the census so I don't know what is the status right here, and to made another call :cool2: l ??

I am in NE PA and took it then too. I called today to update hours available to anything. DH job may be gone in a few weeks after they run the product dry. No money to buy more product.
He has to get his GED so for April I had him register. I am going to find an online practice test for him.
Hope we hear something soon. The gentleman just said they are starting the calls today for us.

Thanks. I should call to see if they will be hiring in my area soon. Good luck to you and your husband.

Hi! I'm in NJ and got the call and offer last night. I start training on April 27th. Nice pay rate here. I'm hopeful this will work out well.

I'm told I have to work 35 hours per week and 8 of those have to be on the weekend. The work will last 8 weeks and then there is a possiblity of being picked up for another 8, etc.

Good luck to everyone else who is waiting. Just yesterday I was thinking that this ship has sailed. :)

I just got called last night. Actually it was at 8:30pm...they must keep pretty late hours. I thought it was all over but I guess they are not done. The pay is a lot smaller than I thought but I guess it depends on the area. I start training on April 13 and they told me it was for 8 weeks.

Congrats!!

To anyone who has gone through the enumerator training. Once you've completed your training when do you start working? I'm training week of 3/30 and am curious.

TIA

To the people that have training scheduled....did they ask you if you are available 9-5 hours? I am wondering if that is why I have not heard back since they called me last week.....I told them I can only do late shift and weekends.....

Hi, I'm in Bozeman and my training is April 13th as well. The guy I talked with in Billings wasn't very forthcoming when I told him I could only do nights and weekends. He just said it would be okay and then didn't tell me how many hours. Did your contact let you know those things? Thanks!

I filled out the form that I was available anytime/anyday. I tried to be as flexible as possible. Training is from 8:30 am to 5 pm for one week only, but after that you can work whatever hours you want. I was originally told I would need to work 20 hours, but was now told I could work 30+ hours (no overtime allowed or paid). I'm happy about that as we need the money!!

Perhaps that is why you didn't get called since the training is during the day. I don't know if they will offer training in the evenings???
